I am thinking I will get one this weekend. I have a couple of long trips ahead of me and don't look forward to multiple hours with nothing but an iPod and a book.

First, USB only connects it to a PC/PS3, correct?
I have to use a Memory Stick Duo for storage?
I know I can access files on my PS3 via Wi-Fi, but what remote play features are available for games so far?

And are they easily found used in places like Gamestop?

The USB connector is rubbiah, its only function for the PC is to charge it--that's it. And you have to install software just to do it, you can't just do it out of the box.

?????????????????

Weird - I didn't have to do anything to get my PSP charging and for accessing the files other than plug it in (both with my Laptop and home desktop - I've also plugged it into a few of the PCs at work to charge it from time to time).

The only software I installed for mine was PSP9 to make the conversion, compression and transfer of video clips easier.

And another couple of follow up questions:

Are a carrying case and screen covers worth it?
Extra battery, or just get a DC adaptor?

Read the second paragraph onwards in This Post regarding my opinion on cases and screen protectors.

Depends on how often you will use it outdoors. Anymore than 2 hours playing most games the standard battery isn't enough, and the last time I checked any batteries that do hold more power don't give significant more time (unless you want an extra large one that sticks out of the PSP's case).

Excellent, thank you.

Well, I am looking at a 6-8 hour flight when I go to Hawaii.

I remember reading Sony will be selling (or already are) batteries for the slim which are basically phat batteries. They come with a battery cover as well so the bump (from the bigger battery) won't be that noticeable, and I think it almost doubles the battery life.

I read that too. Since Hawaii is in February I should be able to find one of those by then.

Has anyone played the Daxter or Star Wars Battlefront games that come in the bundles? I realize the 1gb memory card alone nearly makes the bundles worth the extra $30. I think that ideally I will try to get the Daxter pack and then see if they will give me a decent trade-in on the Family Guy UMD. I'm not a big Family Guy fan and I would rather buy the new Worms game for it. If they only have the Star Wars pack I'll get that, but I can't trade-in Darth Vader's face.

if you get the family guy UMD I will give you a couple bucks for it!!!

I have a PSP slim (bought from a friend who had already given up the stuff that came with it including the battery) with my old PSP's battery in it and it has huge battery life, I would buy the pack with daxter as that seemed like a cool game the few times I played it and also try to pick up GTA VCS and an old style battery (it will stick out until the special covers become available)

No luck, all that is available locally, and I mean every store, is the Star Wars pack. I guess I will get that one.

Well, the battery with the back cover will actually be bigger than the old one.

thinner, lighter, option to hook up to TV (also means you would need a new headphone remote if you use it), button issues addressed, faster loading times. some other stuff I probably forgot.

Basically, what I was attempting to say (poorly upon rereading that post) is that the larger batteries are supposed to eventually come in a bundle with the special battery cover.
I got this bundle. You get the 2200mah battery and two slightly larger battery case covers. One is silver and one is black. The silver one goes well with my white Star Wars PSP, except that Darth Vader is on the battery case, so it suddenly loses it's geek tattoo.

Anyway, this works well. It is supposed to offer 20% more time. It estimates 8+ hours for gaming and 6+ for movies.

Just realized I edited and not replied.

I also got the TV adapter with composite cables. Works nice. Not much more to say. I haven't had any major troubles, although it seems to have problems adjusting to 4:3 screens without shrinking everything.

I have a couple of questions about games. Currently I have Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. Nice game, feels like Warhawk portable (YES PLEASE!!!), only not as versatile.

I rented Worms 2: Open Warfare from Gamefly. I loved it, but enjoy all Worms games. Unfortunately Gamefly did not have a Keep It option for this. I want to find it used. I know the first Worms title will probably be available for cheaper at some place. Is it just as good or no?

Also, I happened to see MediEvil Resurrection. Is that any good or just the same as MediEvil? Because I have MediEvil already from the PSN. Also, MGS: Portable Ops. Does it have good single player?

And is Ace Combat X good? It seems to be on the pricey side of things.

Any other games to suggest? Note: My system is not modified or whatever so I cannot rip GT2.

Oh, and I tried the Ape Quest game. I hate turn-based RPGs and I hate mini-games. Guess what I thought of a game combining the two, poorly.

Ace Combat is awesome! It's the only game I am playing right now. There are multiple paths and enough hidden things/rewards to keep you playing for hours. Also four difficulty levels. Here in Japan it is a 'Best' (greatest hit) and is cheap. (2800yen or so). The menus and voices are all in english as well. Might be an option for you to pick up a japanese copy of the game to save you some money.

may I recommend GTA vice city stories and twisted metal head on, gta is full of the goodness expected (with minor issues because of shuffled controls) and TMHO had an excellent access point based online system (at least it did when before I broke my copy). Also, have you had any trouble with the colors on your tv when connected with the PSP?

Well, I was never a fan of the GTA series. I see what makes it a great game, outside the general violence, but it isn't my cup of tea. I preferred the top down old school versions.

As for Twisted Metal: Head On, I want to try it. I am curious about it, but with TM2 on my memory stick I wonder which I would play more.

Also, have you had any trouble with the colors on your tv when connected with the PSP?
Colors were fine for me. What kind of issues are you having?

one of the main three colors (I can't remember which) is way too low and I can't get it to change no matter what I adjust on the TV, all the connections (three video two audio obviously) seem to be correct as well...

Could be a component thing and as all I have is composite I don't know if I can help.

You have the settings properly set up for component on the PSP?

as far as I can tell yes, I think what I'm going to do is trade these in and get soem composites to see if that helps the problem, that will give me more flexibility anyways...

As for the TMHO, I would definitely recommend it as it's very similar to TM2 👍

Well, I know I want Worms: Open Warfare 2 and possibly TMHO. I will probably get Ace Combat X as well.

Since Gamefly seems to be out of stock on everything I guess I will be dredging myself into Gamestop. Ugh.

I'll probably also get one, or both Crash games on the PS Store. I have a 4gb memory stick coming in ($45 on Amazon) so I will have plenty of storage (6gb total). Now, which DVDs to port over for my Hawaii trip? I am thinking Red Dwarf Series 1.

Oh, after fully charging the 2200mah battery on my slim the battery information in the settings said it had over 12 hours of charge with the dimmest settings. I am sure that is just if I left it sitting on the XMB, but still, 12 HOURS!!!

That is a 40% increase over the slim battery. I do believe the box stats were based on the slightly larger PSP fat battery.

with the old battery from the fat PSP I get 8 hours so that sounds about right, I would definitely recommend both crash games as well as Jet Moto from psn. I have also been waiting for ACX to drop in price so I can pick up a copy as it's certainly one of my favorite series.

I had Crash 3 so I definitely want to try out the first two. I wish that they woudl put a GT game on the PSN. I have 1 and 2 still, but I would pay up to $9.99 for each to have them on my PSP.

As for the ACX price, for the length of single player PSP games I think $30 is a bit much, especially when they are getting ported to PS2 with more content for $20.

OK, I got Twisted Metal: Head On yesterday. A most excellent recommendation. They took all the best parts from the original team (TM1&2) and what good bits could be derived from the newer team (TM3 and 4) and put them together.

Only gameplay element that bothered me was that the last two bosses were Sweet Tooth related. Huh? Since when did he work for Calypso?

And Dark Tooth is just Minion with a Mr. Slam clamp.

Oh and I found the story element that Roadkill and Sweet Tooth were the same guy with a split personality to be a bit odd. I would complain about how sometimes they are both in the game, but considering the nature of the game I won't complain about realism or continuity.

This is good enough to make me contemplate the PS2 version.
