Given my post was deleted and I got a 10 point infraction I will repost my advice:

Ask your neighbors if you can "hijack" their wifi for temporarily doing basic tasks. You could pay them a few pounds, too. If I were your neighbor I'd take 5 bucks a month to let some guy check his email and forums and such. It would take virtually no bandwidth and could be monitored.

Going make to practise some more on the world's tiniest violin, wish me luck! 👍

I doubt posting again is a good idea....

Sorry to hear about the problems, Golfman.

Sorry to be unclear. Issues are only vaguely related, but the entire post was deleted. Just putting back the purely constructive and wholly legal bit.

In the UK it's not "sorta". It is (under section 125 of the Communications Act [2003]). Golfman lives in the UK.

Honest question and not trying to be a smart ass: we obviously aren't allowed to talk about / suggest illegal things. Does the definition of 'illegal' you / the mods are working under mean what is illegal in the country GT Planet is hosted in; what's illegal in the country the poster suggesting the act in question is in; what's illegal in the country the OP/receiver of the message/suggestion is in; or what's illegal in any country (doubting it's this one though)?

There's some people from Holland here and some people from Saudi Arabia and I don't want to get caught up in the whole 'legal' thing in the future.

Thanks. I considered pm'ing but it seems on topic given the direction the thread has gone and also it could be helpful for other people who've posted in this thread to have that clarified.

The suggestion as given would lead to the user to whom it was directed, if they were to carry it out, to commit a crime.

Golfman obtaining WiFi from people with their consent is fine. Golfman obtaining WiFi from people without their consent is a crime, under section 125 of the Communications Act (2003). Yes, people have been convicted for it.

Yeah well, the car is history. I am in debt for almost £5000 for furnishing the place brand new - because brand new is what we both wanted. No hand-me-downs. I will be paying for this for the next 5 years.
Feel like I know all of you, and will be sorry to let you all go for a while, but needs must.
Feel like this thread and the other one I started "How do you mend a broken heart" should be connected in some way, since she is the reason I am in this current predicament....bitch.

That's sad to hear, I mean that's awful man. I really hope we'll see you on GTP down the road again.

She should pay for half of it if it was a mutual decision to get the furniture.

True, but I think I would rather have it that everything is mine and mine alone. If she paid for half of it, then there's a chance she may want to claim some of it for her new place.
It will be a struggle, but I'll muddle through somehow.

I've been in a similar situation to yours before, I couldn't afford a landline anymore. Instead, I've now got a "3 Huawei E1550 USB Modem" which works on a top-up basis. You simply insert the sim card (should be inside the box) into it and purchase "3 Network" credit for it at a shop/supermarket. £10 = 1GB/1000MB. I bought my modem at Tesco, it might be worth checking out.

Arghh! Just realised something. I won't be able to download the patch to fix the bugs in F1 2010. I'll have to contend with with it until I get hooked up to the interweb again!!

EDIT: (Sat Oct 22nd) Well, I'm still here. Turns out she has yet to cancel the monthly Sky package at my place, because all she is doing is transferring it to her new address, so I've got broadband for a whole other week!
