AUBURN, Ind. -- A one-of-a-kind Z-28 Camaro convertible built for a former General Motors Corp. executive is missing its keys, title and original bill of sale -- all of them stolen during a classic car auction.
Bids fell short for the convertible, which was created for Elliott Estes, former general manager of GMs Chevrolet division. It was expected to bring $1 million to $2 million at the Kruse International Auction Park.
A briefcase with the papers and owner Kathy Maynards purse were left in her Suburban for a few moments Thursday evening. Both are now missing.
That was all the information in the world, Maynard said. Were sick.
She said she figures someone took the bags for cash without realizing what they contained and hopes that the thief dumped the paperwork on the Kruse grounds.
Auctioneer Dean Kruse has promised a substantial reward for the bags return.
Although Maynards husband, Al Maynard, has copies of the documentation, he agrees that the originals enhance the car.
The dark green muscle car is the only Z-28 Camaro convertible in the world and was built on a central office production order. Estes had it outfitted with racing parts.
Its probably the best Camaro in the world, as far as desirability, Kruse said.
