Im trying to find a good rally game on playstation to try with my T500 RS wheel and was hoping for recommendations. I have been looking towards WRC 4 or Dirt 3. WRC 5 doesn't look good as it has very short stages. So its between the two previously mentioned on PS3. Which is the best choice if i just what to be able to hop on and run a few stages for an hour or so? Also which one has the best FFB for the T500 wheel?

I prefer DIRT 3 to WRC but that's with a DS3, not sure how they are with a wheel.

I never played WRC, but Dirt 3 is meh with a wheel. All Codemasters game generally have dull FFB. It's mostly just resistance without any info from the road. The game itself is pretty good for a simcade.

If you want to test FFB, arguably your best option is the rally in GT5/6, even though they don't have proper stages.

If you really want a good rally game get RBR on PC. It's an old game so even low specs can run it fine. If you have a better PC get Dirt Rally.

Dirt 3 has some incredibly short stages, far shorter than WRC 4 in general and WRC 5 has longer ones still. I'd say wait until Dirt Rally hits the consoles though - only meant to be a few months away now.

There aren't any really good rally games on consoles in my opinion. Sure there's the WRC games but they just don't seem like anything special to me. And the Dirt games on console are not exactly realistic.

I'm assuming you have a PC since you're posting on this site. If it's less than 10 years old, it should be able to run Richard Burns Rally, a true rally sim that blows anything on console out of the water. If you have a more current machine I'd suggest Dirt Rally since it feels like a much more fleshed out game than RBR as a whole.

Don't forget also that RBR is moddable (though it needs a bit of tinkering), whereas DR is not.

Also, this might be subjective, but RBR still has a smidge better physics and FFB than DR. Though DR's graphical improvements and car/track list certainly blows vanilla RBR away.

The best rally game with a wheel is Sega Rally. That game has the best feel of slinging your car through the dirt. Yes it isn't pretty or realistic, but it is fast awesome rallying

I tried Sega Rally Revo with a wheel and went back to using a pad after 5 seconds. Graphically it's pretty alright (dynamic terrain deformation FTW), but FFB really isn't its strong suit.

I can't recommend WRC 4. The stages are extremely generic and not at all realistic in terms of their layout or their environments. There's a lot of repetition, the same couple of corners often appear in many of the stages of a certain scenery. Sometimes the only difference between two stages is that they moved the start and the finish, apart from that it's the exact same stage only with a different name. The stages are a constant mess of sharp corners left and right and you won't be able to build up any speed until you need to brake for the next hairpin or chicane that they toss your way.

The handling is simple and the steering is awkward. You can adjust the steering settings, but it doesn't make it any better. Snow rally is okay, but tarmac is horrible and dirt is not much better.

The car models are dull on the exterior and extremely shiny on the inside for some reason. As if they spent all their graphics budget on dashboard gloss and roll cage chrome and had nothing left when it was time for the exteriors.

The menu is difficult to live with, there is some kind of pit interface when you enter a rally and you have to find the correct screen / toolbox / computer / whatever for what it is that you want to do. Not that you'd actually want to do anything, because what's the point?

The replays looks more like stop-motion animation rather than the real life footage they show you when you start the game.

The best feature of the game is that you can quit it.

Thanks for the advice. I decided to get WRC 4 since it was $18 on PSN. Im happy enough with it, but will wait till next year when Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo comes out as that looks interesting.

I agree, Richard Burns Rally is by far the best. I just wanted to point out it was also released for the xbox and PS2.
The PS2 version is great using the Logitech DFGT (and can be hacked to widescreen). But I wouldn't expect the T500 to work with the PS2.
