I attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed last Saturday for the first time, and knowing how many car nuts there are on here I thought you like to see a few pics of what turned out to be a fantastic afternoon.
The invite came through a friend of my wifes who used to be married to one of the drivers. After hearing of my passion for 50's/60's/70's race cars, she got us invited along as a guest of her ex.
Due to a dentist appointment we didnt get there until 1.30pm but this did mean we managed to have a good thrash down in the 911 and avoid the horrendous traffic jams - and as wed also been supplied with parking passes for the owners car park we had only a very short walk to the event.
I spent around an hour wondering around the Cathedral Paddock, before moving on to the hospitality area at the side of the track, from where I spent a lovely afternoon drinking champagne and watching the cars go by the sun shone and it was almost perfection
As I have quite a few photos Ill post them alphabetically
Starting with the reason we were there, and a very, very special car
Aston Martin DBR1
Besides looking absolutely stunning and sounding amazing, this was one of the most valuable cars at the event. This car (DRB1/2, one of only 5 ever built) won Le Mans in 1959 (driven by Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori), Nurburgring 1,000km (Stirling Moss) and at Spa. Later in the year, the same car won the Goodwood Tourist Trophy (driven by Stirling Moss, Carroll Shelby and Jack Fairman) to secure Aston Martin the World Sportscar Championship (to this day, Astons only World Championship). Its value is somewhere around $10 million, yet Peter drives it like hes stole it sliding it around with apparently no concessions made for its age or value.
Here's a video of Peter driving it up the hill...

Various sportscars . There were so many!
I had a load more photos but due to laptop/memory card problem some of them need repairing when I get them fixed I post them too. Included in the damaged ones are some NASCARs and Audi's (including an S1 and some evil sounding DTMs)
Overall, I had an great afternoon - its amazing just how close you can get to the cars. Heres a video of some cars leaving the paddock they are virtually running over your feet
I chose this clip to show just how close and as there are some incredible exhaust notes
the Mustang in particular sounds evil!
So many other things I didn't get to see, such as the vintage racers, or saw but had little interest in such as the modern F1 cars and the road cars.... though here are a couple of the first road cars I saw in the the carpark...
430 Scud (with HUGE carbon brakes)...
Pagani Zonda with 'discrete' interior
Highly recommended for anyone who can make it... off to the revival next to see all the beautiful historics battling it out on the track
