I understand the need for ads, and fully support the site owner's use of them, but I know it's Jordan's wish is that they intrude as little as possible on the user experience.

The ads that replace the screen and say they will self-destruct in 15 seconds, or you can click the skip button, are not as unobtrusive as they could be. They kill the back button, for starters. You're at a thread list, you hit Back to get to the board list, but the ad pops up, and when it's done, whether you skipped it or waited it out, you're still at the thread list. The ad repeats whenever you hit Back. The only way out is to actually pick the link you need in the GTP Forums > GTPlanet > etc. at the top left.

The other way they intrude, and this has only happened to me once, but it did happen, is while entering a post I hit the preview button to check out the appearance, and the ad came up. When it was gone, so was my editing. That was truly annoying!

Also, maybe as feedback to those that do those ads, I can honestly say that I have no clue what any of them were advertising. I have no recollection of the subject at all.

While we're at it, if you navigate to this site on a mobile phone without being logged in you often can't log in at all as an advert redirects your phone to a fullscreen ad page before the site is fully loaded. You then have to click 'Back' to try again only for the same to happen over and over. :(

Although to be fair there is nothing that can be done about that.

+1 on this. All they do is make me go "WTF?" and click the skip button, absolutely zero attention is paid to the actual ad.

You're correct, wfooshee - I really, really don't want these ads to be that intrusive, and I had not noticed or experienced the issues you guys have brought up. I will contact the technical director at the ad network now to see what we can do about it.

Same thing has happened to me, you have hit the fourm button! I thought it was because, i use my PS3 to get on GTPlanet.

Where exactly in the site do these full screen ads appear? I've never experienced these; the only problem I've had is with the occasional ad with either arbitrary sound or sound when you mouse over it. Maybe I haven't seen them because I access the forums directly via the gtplanet.net/forum URL?

It's probably because you're in Mexico, and most of these ads will be geo-targeted to US/UK visitors.

That is correct... +1.

Mobile phone browsing works great with my HTC Touch Pro and Opera Mobile 9.5. vBulletin does, however, have a mobile-friendly client that can be implemented for mobile phone users. The folks at [H]ard|OCP implemented it not too long ago and it's a pleasure to browse with. Very quick!

I'm getting these ads after almost every click in the forum, ads are one thing but when they are that annoying I only note what the ad is about so I can make sure to never buy that product!

Do you really mean "every click"? If so, something is wrong - check to make sure your web browser is accepting cookies. You should not see more than 5 or 6 of these ads over a 24 hour period.

The last 2 times I've been to the site this evening the ad will pop up approx every other click I make on the site, earlier today I never saw the ad at all.
It seems to come in cycles, weather I'm on my laptop or desktop some times I get the ads every other click & sometimes I only see the ad a couple of times a day.

I am experiencing the same problems as Bleached and TheMoose are having. It's becoming not enjoyable to be here now. I could deal with them every few hours. But to get them like I am right now isn't fun.

I just got on the site this morning and I am getting the ad literally every click (including clicking reply to make this post)

Cookies have been enabled in Firefox so I'm not really sure what else to do.

I have also noticed this too that the pop up adds are crazy lately. Almost every 1-3 clicks and a new add pops up. Some of my replies have been wiped out because of the pop up happening during my reply. :scared:
I just experiemented and had it happen twice within 5 seconds.

Yes, these ads are awful. Please find some other way to incorporate advertising with out this terrible scheme.

In a ten min viewing time, I've had about 10 of them.

This isn't happening for me, but what you guys are saying is just ridiculous. I've sent a request to have them disabled for now.

A co-worker logged on and had this happen to him, as well. I went to his computer, saw what was happening and thanked my lucky stars I have Premium.

Much appreciated. Many of us have been here long enough to realize you resolve issues fast. Thats why I waited before posting, but it has been pretty bad the last week or so. I guess I should have posted sooner. I also thought maybe it was my PC until I saw this thread.

I've been talking with the ad network, and apparently someone made a mistake last night when inserting a new banner in to the system. Clear your cookies and let me know if things get better. I am also going to work on removing ad code from the new post pages so these won't have a chance of interfering with message composition.

As am I, it's very intermittent, I wasn't having problems until a couple minutes ago and then it hit me 5 or 6 times in a row. Is there anything else we should be checking on the browser besides having cookies enabled?

add another complaint to the growing list. I don't mind the bar ads, but these friggin full page bleepers are making it hard to navagate the forums. i had one pop over my RESPONSE post.
since, unfortunately, ads are what carry crash inducing cookies for this computer, that makes it worse. most of my computer slowdown and freezup problems are cased by the tracking cookies these kinds of ads generate.
