Just got it yesterday. For the record, it's a 2001 Ford Mondeo. 1.8 litre engine, 125hp, 16v and a lot of kilometres. It's also got 4 wheel disc brakes and really nice 17" rims and some sort of stability system. I've only just learned that is has been parked for 6 months :ouch:

According to the original owner, the front decal got stolen the day before (yeah right!) so he didn't have time to buy a new one. It also has a bump on the rear quarter panel... people here suck at parallel parking.

Hmmm... ImageShack doesn't want to resize my pics. Anyway, I'll be taking it this afternoon for a wash n' wax and all that.

All you need are some Ford GT style stripes and decals.

Nick someone else's Ford badge.

Sat still for 6 months!? CHANGE THE GEARBOX OIL!

Looks good though, nice buy 👍

Exactly... the wife wants me to take her to Ikea, to the supermarket, to the beach and all... I told her I'd happily do it all after we change the oils... she doens't understand.

Why do you look so scared of it?

Nice buy... looks very clean. When are you swapping a V6 in? But seriously, nice, clean car.

Dunno... mebbe because my previous cars have been much smaller. The biggest I've had previously have been Mustangs, which although not much smaller, I haven't had to fit into tight spots, since I used to live in Venezuela and the US prior and it's quite uncommon there to manoeuvre much to park. I'm actually amazed at how tight it can turn.

I was going to do a 3-point-turn yesterday and ended up just doing a U-turn. In retrospect, it actually came out nicely, since I couldn't figure how to put reverse in... I had to call a friend who has a similar (newer) Mondeo to tell me how Reverse goes in... you actually have to pull a little lever and then slide reverse in.

When are you swapping a V6 in?

A V6? At 90 cents per litre?! How about no.

It'll look better when I have it washed and mebbe polished it and take my time with it. Thanks again for the comments guys 👍

Carl.
edit: ^^ Stop editing your post while I'm answering them, dammit!!! :irked:

Haha, you replied too quickly, I noticed your smiley just after posting and edited it out. :)

Hey, what happened to the Clio 182? :sly:

Oh... that one is in the... er... I mean... ummm... it's racing BX's Blazer and getting whupped by it on winding roads, I believe ;)

Nice car Diego, how many kilometres on it?

It has 140.000 kms. But on the other hand, it used to be a company car, so it was always taken to the Ford shop for repairs and maintenance. I also have all the receipts :) It's amazing the amount of paper this car had in the glove compartment, since you have to justify every single cent you spend on it. It even has the receipt for every single car wash :boggled: Which I think is kind of odd, but hey, Spaniards are odd.

Congrats and good purchase, Diego! Even though it is only a Mondeo. :p

MONDEOOOOOOOOOOOO POWAHH!!!!! Hell yeah brah!

If it's been sitting for 6 months you should maybe check all the fluids to see if they might need replacing. Well thats what i'd do anyway.

Also seconding you should have got a ST220

As for the records, well I tend to keep all the recipts for parts and garages and whatever. I dunno it's meant to look like that the previous owner looked after the car or whatever. But yeah carwash recipts is going over the top.

Looks like a great car, and a good find. Too bad they kicked the Mondeo out of the US after 2000 (or 2002 if we are talking about the Mercury version...). This one looks a lot better than what we had, kinda like a Focus for big kids.

Fun to drive I presume?

...Anyway, good find, hope you enjoy it...

Haven't had the chance to push it much. Previous owner was gas cheap and left it with about 7 litres and we haven't taken it out much, since I got it yesterday at about 5pm and was expected for a golf match at 5:45 and today I've been waiting for my wife to get ready to go out since 1pm... it's now 8:30 and she's still in the process.

I did floor it a bit yesterday and it seemed to respond well. The company had the good heart to change all fluids... I just wish they would've actually put some gasoline fluid in it :grumpy:

I'll keep you posted on additional fun actions :)

why would you have to change the tranny fluid for a sit? most people, here, barely think about the OIL, let alone the gearbox :P

they kicked the mondy out cause there was no market for the poor undersized thing. it was too tiny for american tastes...or america's plethora of 6 and a half foot beanpoles or three hundred pounders

btw, it was the other way around. the Contour version lasted longer, the mystique version died first.

...I'm not a huge Ford fan, I just remeberd that the Mercury lasted longer. Anyway, seeing a Contour/Mondeo is a pretty rare thing in the US, especially the SVT versons. To me, it is really the only Ford I would consider buying (unless of course it is an SVT Focus or Mustang) as it is about the size of my Jetta, has as much power as the VR6, and is presumably cheaper to insure...

On a side note... how much gas was in it while it was sitting? Could be water in the tank.... but then again, you've been driving it around for quite a while already, so it should be no problem.

Gas prices? Who cares about those?

What mileage are you getting on that thing, now?

What mileage are you getting on that thing, now?

Well, since my wife works at Texaco, we get cheaper gas, so I'm putting 98 octane. Additionally, I used to live in Venezuela, where gas prices are at about $0.026 (that's less than one cent) per litre, so aside form everyone having V8 and V6 engines, there's no gas-saving-culture, and no one really cares about gas mileage. Hence, I never really learned to check out my mileage per tank.

As soon as I find something of the sort, you'll be the first to know 👍

Was kind of tipsy and bored tonight, so I took some pics of the car, playing with the camera. I washed the car this morning, although it doesn't look like it.

So, a bit of an update here.

Some 🤬 rear-ended me a bit over a month ago and it took the insurance company close to a month to accept my car in a mechanic to fix it. Since the other person's insurance was supposed to take care of the costs, I took it to the Ford Dealership.

Oddly enough, the insurance company accepted that my appraiser look over the damage, so that's how it went. The damage was to my rear bumper, but the boot lid and the brake light were also damaged.

I was without the Mondeo for a bit over a week, but the company I work for rented me this thing.

The thing was supposed to be returned this past friday, since that's when the Mondeo was scheduled to be ready. As you might guess, the Mondeo was not ready by friday, but I still had to return the car then. So I couldn't go to work on Monday, yet Ford decided that since they'd taken so long delivering the Mondeo (which of course, wasn't ready) they'd let me have a courtesy car. Hence, I got this one:

Today I finally got the call that the Mondeo is ready!!!

And after driving out of the dealer I noticed it accelerated like crap and was acting kinda stupid, which was rather odd since the damage was to the body, so they shouldn't have tweaked the engine, so I took it back to the dealer. When I got out, I opened the trunk and there were two majour burns on the rug, the boot lid was still crooked and the brake light wasn't fixed.

It turns out the mechanics only fixed the rear bumper. They didn't even touch the brake lights nor the boot lid. I have to take it back tomorrow and they already told me they're all out of courtesy cars, so some majour bashing may go on tomorrow at Ford.

Classic situation around here with our Ford dealership. When they do fix something, they usually break/ruin something else, and after taking longer then quoted, it turns out they didn't even fix everything they were suppose to. I think if my girlfriends family didn't work at Ford, they wouldn't drive one thanks to all the hassle they get at the dealership.

My cousin had that happen to him at a nearby Chevrolet dealership. He's 18 and bought himself a $25,000 Cobalt S/C (I always shorten it a bit). Right when he got it the sport package's dark painted rims were chipped around the lugs, there were a few paint chips on the body, and the underside of the spoiler was scratched to hell like a lady went wild with her nails. He tok it back to get all that fixed. THey fixed it, but now there was a bog dent and scrape on the front edge of the rear wheel opening because a lot guy scraped a garage opening. Tat was months ago, we've been back 3 times, and they still haven't fixed it. Worthless. My cousin has gotten so much free stuff from them it isn't even funny. They know we hate them and they know they suck.
