Gr4 Championship Series 2019 Primer
Drivers of any Driver Ranking (DR) are allowed to participate.
Drivers with an active Sportsmanship Rating (SR) of A or higher will automatically be granted entry to the series, based on availability.
Drivers with an active Sportsmanship Rating (SR) of B or lower must submit a brief explanation and make their case for why they belong in the Gr4 Touring Car Championship.
Any Gr4 entry permitted, each driver must choose a different car on a first come, first served basis.
A custom livery MUST be used. It can be a simple solid color livery if you desire, as long as it is different than what the car comes equipped with by default. Default number boards will be used as well, so keep them in mind when designing your livery.
Once you have entered a race with a particular vehicle, you are locked into that vehicle choice for the duration of the series.
No driver assists will be allowed, with the exception of TCS and ABS.
BoP will be applied, however tuning is open.
Tire selection will be limited to to Racing Hard, Medium, and Soft compounds.
Tire Wear: 3X
Fuel Consumption: 3X
Slipstream: REAL
Off-Track Grip Loss: REAL
Ghosting During Race: NONE
Shortcut Penalty: STRICT
Wall Collision Penalty: NONE
Wall Collision Detection: DEFAULT
Car Collision Penalty: STRICT
Side Contact Penalty: ON/STRICT
Correct Vehicle Course After Wall Collision: NO
Replace Cars When They Leave the Track: NO
Flag Rules: ON
In addition to the penalty settings, any on-track incidents will be investigated post-race by watching the replay. Drivers involved will be able to give their perspective and opinion of the incident. If it is determined to be a racing incident (i.e. an error leads to a crash), then no further action will be taken. If the incident is determined to have been an intentional malicious action by a player, then that player will be disqualified have their points revoked for
that round of the championship. They will also be given an official warning, which will be referred to as a "Yellow Card". The player will be warned that such unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated, and if they are to repeat such behavior again for the duration of the season, they will be given a "Red Card" and will be banned from the series entirely. In order to obtain a "Yellow Card", it must be blatantly obvious that an intentional action was taken to damage another player's vehicle, intentionally run someone into a barrier, cause a large collision, repeatedly fail to stay within reasonable track limits (i.e. driving through grass or runoff areas to cut large sections of track), etc. This is up to the discretion of the consensus of competitors involved in the race, who will collectively act as the steward's panel, with the series admin presiding. It is understood that racing incidents will occur, but this is to clamp down on unsportsmanlike conduct and create a more serious, but fun and fair atmosphere for competitors.
Races will be standing grid starts.
A single 10 minute qualifying session will determine the grid order, which begins after all drivers are present in the lobby who RSVP'd to the event.
The Gr4 Championship will take place over 8 rounds in 2019:
Round 1 - Suzuka East
Round 2 - Kyoto Miyabi
Round 3 - Streets of Willow II
Round 4 - Blue Moon Infield B
Round 5 - Red Bull Ring Short
Round 6 - Lago Maggiore Center
Round 7 - Brands Hatch Indy
Round 8 - Tsukuba Circuit
Each race is held on a circuit less than 3.2km (2mi) and will now take place over 1 hour. Races were previously held to a 100km distance. This is to compensate for the disparity in event time between the fastest average speed circuit on the calendar, Blue Moon Infield B (30 min. race), and the slowest, Streets of Willow II (90 min race). Pit stops are not technically required, but the regulations are designed to force your hand with strategic pit stops due to increased tire wear and fuel consumption.Races will be held on Saturdays at 1200hrs US Central time, lobby will open at 1100hrs.The goal is to have 1 race every month, with specific dates and times to be determined.
There will be a "Driver's Briefing" a few days prior to each round, where specific concerns for each race will be addressed in an open forum. This is also the time in which competitors may suggest rule changes, but the majority must vote in favor. Swing votes will be decided by the series admin.
The points system will follow typical FIA convention this year:
1st - 25 Points
2nd - 18 Points
3rd - 15 Points
4th - 12 Points
5th - 10 Points
6th - 8 Points
7th - 6 Points
8th - 4 Points
9th - 2 Points
10th - 1 Point
This is in response to popular decision that the FIA scoring system would be better than the one used previously.
There are a maximum of 20 slots available for competitors. This can change throughout the course of the series due to dropouts. However, if you join the series, you should be doing so with the intent to participate in at least half of the races.
Races will be postponed if there are fewer than 4 cars on the grid.
The points system encourages participation in as many rounds as possible.
Each driver will be given one Joker result. At the end of the season, each driver will have his/her worst result thrown out. This rule is out of fairness to drivers that participate in every round but may have to miss a single event due to a scheduling conflict.
The combination of short circuits with a closely balanced but widely varied Gr4 field and the increased tire and fuel consumption leads to close, unpredictable racing where consistent driving and strategy are of high importance. If you are interested in competing in this series, you can contact me here at GT Planet in this forum thread or via message, and alternatively the Gr4 Touring Car Championship (@gr4championship) Facebook page (NOT A REQUIREMENT, but we do have a FB page up for the series). Please include your name, country, gamertag, and your vehicle selection. I look forward to close competition in 2019!
