Please spend ample time on the game before voting!

Most of us have pretty high expectation of this game. Results should be interesting. Let's keep it fair & honest. :)

I will let you guys vote strictly on the grade you want to give it, with 100 being the highest. Instead of putting my words on your votes, I will just offer my grade measure here:

  • 100 - The game is flawless. It's perfect!
  • 90 - It's everything I had hoped for. Best in the series, or close to it.
  • 80 - Very happy with the game. It could have been better, but not by much.
  • 70 - I like it. It wasn't the epic Gran Turismo release I expected though.
  • 60 - It's above average, but must be the worst (full)game in the series.
  • 50 - Just another racing game. Talk about overhyped!
  • 40 or lower - :grumpy:

Got the game yesterday morning. Completed 4 licences and am level 11 so have had ample time...

I'd rate 65! I like the single player, however, online is awful! Throwing a load of "racers" into a game where the idiots who find their enjoyment from crashing into people get into the most powerful cars! Whats wrong with earning your way up?

A-

Everything I loved about GT4 in glorious 1080p, but a few graphical oddities and the Standard cars debacle prevent a higher score.

Would have went for 95 if it was there but well.. 90 it is. :)

Played it for a day now, got to level 14. From the moment the game started I was really amazed by the very good graphics. They really did manage to get everything possible out of the PS3 it seems. On my crappy HD Ready TV GT5 Prologue didn't really look all that great, but with GT5 now it's just awesome. I almost even get the feeling that I actually have a Full HD TV.

And then the physics, everything just feels so real with my DFGT. A lot better than in GT5 Prologue for sure, can actually feel the difference now between cars. And not just that, after completely tuning my Mazda MX5 it also felt very different. Together with a different sound and look ofcourse.

I just love what they did to GT, I can really see why it took so long and I haven't even seen everything in the game yet!

Only thing I don't like at the moment are the long loading times, even after a full install. And the shadow/pixelation issue's ofcourse, do notice them sometimes. But I have some hope this might get fixed in a future update. Also I don't mind the standard cars at all, some of them look great and the ones that look bad I just won't use. More than enough cars in the game anyway.

70 - I like it. It wasn't the epic Gran Turismo release I expected though.

This is what i thought of the game but still gave it a 80 since 70 does not do justice.

80 Due to a Few Graphical Bugs they need sorting out , to be honest they Spoil a Almost Perfect Game and as much as I enjoy playing it ,some of the replays in the Rain look Awfull 👎

Yer i know i'm being Brutal but I do Love Playing the Game .

I'm afraid I gave it 70, it is good, just not as good as I had expected or hoped. I have to say that other than the premium cars, the graphics are pretty poor. And jeez the AI is just as terrible as its always been. The physics are excellent though and at the end of the day, as long as the driving is spot on, I can live with the other flaws. Kinda hard to see what they've been up to for 5 years though, other than taking some of the best circuits out, alas Seattle, you will be fondly remembered.

90 The shadow glitch is appalling. The standard cars look like a mix of cars from the previous games (including GT1!) so why didn't they include all of them? Track detail is the same as with previous games, we all know KY would rather spend his poly budget on the thing you're sitting inside and to hell with the scenery. Interface has a few nice touches over previous incarnations but it's still completely retarded.

So why the high score? Even with it's shortcomings (of which I've only scratched the surface) it's still the best racing game, on any platform, ever! The challenges are awesome, especially the AMG nurb training - really helped me appreciate ust how awesome this track is. There's an absolute truckload of stuff in there and after 2 full days + 1 all nighter I've hardly even scratched the surface. I'll be playing this for years but that aint going to stop me complaining about the wait - should never have taken that long, you'd think KY would be able to manage a project after all these years but once again his OCD perfectionism has messed up what could have been much better.

I gave it a 50, because 55 wasn't an option. It's basically GT4+BetterGraphics(Sometimes)-A-Bunch-Of-Other-Stuff-You-Loved-Gone.

They've dumbed down the driving so much that you either have to be an 11 year old with all the nannies on or a hardcore enthusiast with a $200 wheel and all the crap driving aids off to have fun, otherwise it's like a chore to drive. At least the braking is still good.

I would give it a 45. I thought it would blow the doors off Forza 3. It is not even as good as Forza 3! Maybe I am missing something?

1. Painting - can't add decals - text - numbers?
2. Damage - are you kidding me?
3. Tuning - I can buy stuff - but I cant adjust it?
4. Graphics - as good as Forza - but one and a half years later?

Game locks up a lot -
Very, very, very disappointed.

Ghost C.... talk about throwback.

I'm still barely getting started. Got the first two license tests + couple of kart races. While I'm not overwhelmed, so far so good. 👍

lol yeah... I came back because the prospect of actual online races was too good to miss out on, and most of my friends are bad drivers.

Just wish the game was better all around. It's looking like the series jumped the shark.

I'm really enjoying it, but I have to give it an 80 for two main reasons:

1) Long, long load times (even with 8 Gig install), and that horrid main menu lock,

2) Lack of replay exporting, even though it was promised ("UL your videos to Youtube" IIRC). If I've missed it (and I've looked a long time) my apologies, and please point me in the right direction.

But the physics are grand, the races fun, the car variety spectacular, and a hundred other reasons to be positive about it.

90 (possible 100 with future patches)

Although there are a few graphical glitches the gameplay is awesome. I don't have a wheel so I'm using a pad. Have been playing with all aids off and have found the physics much better than any other driving game I have played. I will be playing this forever.

It's really an OK game. It's not even close to what I was expecting to be honest. I've put like 4-5 hours into it already and feel disappointed for some reason. The game is beautiful, but it just lacks something.

I gave it a generous 70.

+ Great physics
+ Premium cars look amazing
+ Photomode is still the best in any console game I've played
+ Track Editor

- Standard cars aren't that great looking (although some do look good which makes me think there are actually 3 tiers of cars)
- Load times are terrible even after installing the game
- Damage
- Lack of customization (say what you want, but this feature is becoming more and more standard, especially with this style of game).

It just feels like half of a game, still great and I will still play it until GT6 but it could have been a lot better.

That's exactly how I'm feeling right now.

It's starting to remind me of a kid I went to middle school with. He would show off his karate skills, but you had to position yourself exactly how he needed you to so he could show you the move, otherwise it wouldn't work.

As long as you pick everything PD (Kaz) wants you to, the game is outstanding. Any other combination and the punch never really connects.

I gave it a 90 after about 5 hours of play. After playing more....I'd knock it down to about a 75.

Cons:
Tweak-ability is severely lacking. No dead zones for wheels (that I can find), pedal sensitivity, etc. Almost every racing game has these options.

No out of the box support for G25/G27.....you still have to go through the DFGT.

Head tracking only works in arcade mode. WTF is up with that? They shouldn't have even mentioned it - it's worthless IMHO.

As good as I think it could be....it's missing the mark on some pretty simple stuff...stuff that lesser games have. Stuff that is expected in all racers these days.

To be honest, after playing for several hours now, I'd have to knock it down too... there was much more to do in GT4... I loved the fact that i could b spec part of the race, any race... and the things we already talked about, missing other car manufacturers... missing lots of tracks... standard vs premium thing, I don't mind owning them it's just after seeing premiums I just don't want to have any standards in my garage... It just feels rushed, incomplete, and that they held back on things for GT6... I will still enjoy it though, online part will make up for some of the shortcomings.

EDIT: We should make this poll again a few weeks or so, when the excitement has died down and people can judge it for what it is.

I'd give it about a 75 myself (though on the OP's scale, probably a 60)

GT5 isn't pretty, and Gran Turismo games are supposed to be. In a technical sense most of the cars are not of current-gen quality, a good number of the tracks aren't either. There are glitchy visual errors and pop-up everywhere too. When was the last time pop-up was distracting in a game? 2002?

In an artistic sense we also get a real downgrade as a lot of the tracks are low on neat scenery. GT5 focuses more on 'real' than 'original' tracks. Say goodbye to looking at quaint villages and hello to copy-pasted race tents.

There are a lot of neat little features I like though, but it's a shame that most of the general Gran Turismo fanbase doesn't care too much about day night cycles or physics. GT5 seems to be shooting for a much narrower audience than previously. I thought about it on a different forum, and I really don't think I'd recommend the game to others unless they own a wheel.

All things considered, 75 seems fair to me. Fair for a game that's clearly not for everybody, and is lacking a lot of the 'wow' factor that the whole Gran Turismo genre is known for. I'm cutting launch day online/menu bugs a huge break in that score as well.

There's still fun to be had, and I still see GT5 as an effective tool for wasting months of my life. I've enjoyed my online races (got lucky and found a great public lobby). It'll take me an awfully long time to chew through single player too.

80% for me - awesome fun overall with some 'imcomplete' aspects not allowing a higher score

Stand out positives:
Physics - miles from Prologue, the skilled drivers will love it
Karting - huge fun
Photo mode - stunning
Course maker -ensures the track count doesnt ever make you sad
Special events - huge challenging fun, more please
Nascar - didnt think the cars would be such a challenge to drive - awesome physics!
Painting rims and cars - awesome
Online - gonna be epic
Cape Ring - sweet
Weather/time - epic
Nurburgring and LeMans - revolutionary! feels like you're there - miles from GT4

Stand out negatives:

Premium car count - the standards look great but u know they're there to fill up the car count, they dont really belong. When you earn more credits you tend to always buy another premium.
Rims - cant fit to standards and the premium cars seem to have just 11 pre-selected rims to choose from( correct me if im wrong - they dont seem to cycle)
Machine test - where is it, was in all previous GTs
Tuning Parts - could have more options

Overall - magic game - cannot wait to go home:tup:

DLC soon it seems - hope to get machine test included

One day in I would give it an 85. Having to see those shadow glitches before almost every race is a bit of a downer. Although I expect that score to go up the more i get into the game and especially after the updates in the coming weeks and months. I dont seem to have the long load times others are complaining about, they are usually about 15 seconds. There is and will always be room for improvement, but most of my time will be spent playing this game.

I rate it 60, it's refreshing to finally race on track I know by heart (as opposed to having to learn all of Forza's tracks.) I've raced GT since GT1, and I'm used to the feel of the game already...

However, the game seems very dissapointing, the biggest part being that they forgot to upgrade BRAKES. Honestly, I can forgive the graphics not being the best, and the standard cars limited options. But honestly, 1. No brake upgrades, 2. No Wheel size upgrades (fitting an S15 Silvia w/ aftermarket wheels makes them look extremely tiny.) And that kinda sucks... Honestly, I'm not impressed by the game... I don't think it's worth 5 years of development, Forza does more with less, it doesn't look as great, but the tuning aspect seems much more in depth than GT5 (I'm unbiased as I own both systems and both GT5 and Forza 3.)

must say, online is awesome, the community building automatically around yr friends list is uber-awesome.

just seeing what yr friends are doing, hopping on their homepage, leaving behind a message with a pic of an m3 on top gear test track with the words:
"wanna drag some?"
Love the way you build up private lobbys, you can set next to skid recovery and all that smth else, slip behaviour or something, put that on real!
And then see you friends join for half an hour top gear fun, dragging, drifting around eachother etc... Just insane amount of fun never to be seen in the past of gt5...

Online is foching awesome!!!!

about the wheels, it's because you probably put comforts on, while the car comes with sports out of the box, i would say, stay with sports and every aftermarket rim is the same as default narrownes...

I'm happy with what I've played so far, however I've not sampled online yet so I've refrained from voting for now. I'll let you know what I think when I have a blast tonight.

i think they rebuild the engine from scratch, that's why physics are now so good and simmy-like.
Do you know what engine means? Without it we wouldn't even see cars reacting on the road...

I think lots of you guys actually forget what they do in PD next to "making cars"...
Btw, i would love to see a real 3d modeler from here on the board making a car like one of the premium ones in less then 6 months...

Think, before bashing, think...

Now that's what i'm talking about. You now, for me, in the end that will GT5 be, a good track (nordschleife) with the friends on a lobby, privately run as trackdays or something (the way you set up and run a lobby are amazing, didn't see alot of options before in any racegame). Along with maybe a shedule or a kalender in the community of friends...

I tell you, online is freaking amazing, it's btw not just the "open lobby" button, but also the third tab (under profile); "community" that is very important.

That's btw why lots of reviews (ign, gamespot) are failing to review it properly... For me that's at least 1/3 of the game, if not 1/2...
