I wanted to ask here because everytime I look on google it just gives me loads of crap about GT HD. I just wanted to know what the GT1 Demo was like, what tracks it had, and what cars were included, etc. Thanks!

An NSX, and a [R] Impreza. Also one of the SS Routes or other night course--I think Clubman SR5. It might've had a Corvette too..

The demo I have, had, for actual use, only one course (Clubman Route 5), and three arcade-mode cars; NSX (default), Corvette, and an [R]mod Impreza (even though there were no [R]mod cars in arcade mode in the final game). You could definitely go through Arcade Mode manufacters and look at approximately the same lineup as appeared in the final game. But all except the above three cars were indicated as not available.

I don't think you could look much at other parts of the game. I will need to dig it out and check.

However, on the plus side, you could configure your controller however you wanted (though there was no way to save it), and you actually got to race a full 2-lap race against varied field.

And there was, I believe, much more data available and with a GameShark perhaps one could use more cars and even courses.

I looked at two copies a few minutes ago. One from Interactive CD Sampler 6, which I believe came with my original PSX. And one from an Underground Jampack, probably in early 1999.

Unlike most demos, you can play for as long as you want. You actually go to the production top-level GT screen.

There is absolutely no access to Simulation Mode (greyed out, and beeps), but you can access the Options screen, and set all controller configuration, as well as sound and view options, etc. And you can look at the Replay Theater, where there are three demos available for viewing.

And you can go to "Quick Arcade" mode, where the only available option is "Single Race". You can then peruse the eight manufacturers as appeared in the eventual game, but those cars are not available. Instead you must choose from the special "Available Cars" section.

You can choose an NSX Type S Zero, Corvette '96 or [R]Impreza Rally Edition, and are able to select colours for each. You can then choose "standard" or "drift" mode and automatic or manual transmission.

You can then view each of the eight tracks available in the production game, except that all except Clubman R5 are marked as "Not available". (Also the track picture is black-and-white and does not move at all).

Then you have a complete two-lap race. After it finishes, you can view the replay, view the lineup, retry the race, or exit to do other stuff in the demo. (I.e. you can do everything but save the replay).

I saw an R33GT-R in one of the lineups. And also an [R]Camaro.

The fields probably contain at least the cars you can view, but, since the production version has you race against lots of cars you cannot drive, it's possible there are many more cars available. I didn't look that closely at the fields.

As I say, unlike most game demos, this approaches being a complete game, because you can play it over and over without needing to reload.

Thanks for that. I just want to go off-topic quick beacause I just wanted to know if anyone knows why the graphics on the GT1 intro appear better than they are in the actual game. What I mean is the pictures look like it has the graphics from an early PS2 game. Does anyone know why?

I'm not up on geek terminology but the opening movie in GT1 and 2 are FMV's (full-motion videos) that I believe run at a higher framerate than the replay/game itself. If the entire game were like this, it would of course take a lot more memory that the PS1 would be able to handle.

GT1 does feature a "hi-res" mode once you get to a certain point in the game. In this mode, you're able to race at Route 5, Route 11, and I believe one other track at a higher resolution (so the graphics look much better). Only problem is, you can only drive these tracks by yourself and there's hardly any background scenery.

Also in the PAL demo you can start with the demo, then change it for the original GT! disc and cheat the licences for gold, play the full game and buy American cars not normally found in PAL versions.

I remember gettingthe GT1 demo with my playstation, then getting the game with it too and another jampack demo disk so in 1 christmas i got 2 demos or it and the full game haha what a good christmas!

Cool, you got US and JP! I wish I could have read that sooner. I could'nt because my computer screwed up and the internet folowed. My Dad would have been able to sort it out sooner, but we were goining on hoilday to the Isle of wight, so he had to wait until he got back to sort it out. Anyway, I'm back now, but I really missed GTP.

I have watched 2 videos of the GT1 Demo intro, but they both had different music. Is this just a version thing, or was there two demos?

I know the Japanese version is different from the North American NTSC. Not sure if PAL is also different, but it's possible.

No, thats not it. I've been a complete idiot. One video was the intro for the demo, and the other one was just a trailer. I know give my self the award for being the biggest dunce in the universe! :dunce:

Well Parnelli, you sure put your finger on the pulse for that one; the smileys are disabled for my browser.

(Sorry to interrupt a moment of bonding by dunce cap, by the way.)
