Many things have been said about GT5. From high praise, to people returning it. As is usually the case with these things, somewhere in the middle generally gives the best indication of what the game is really like.

With that in mind, GT5 needs fixing. It is a good enough game that we (and Polyphony) certainly cannot give up on it, but it does need some work. Not a total overhaul by any means, but lets be honest, it needs work.

Without a doubt, it can be fixed. It's no like Lair or Haze where the best option was to give up. The Standard cars, graphical issues, more tracks, sub par GT Life, Arcade Mode unlocked, leaderboards etc, all relatively easy fixes. The question is, will it be fixed?

Well, it took them 6 years to make what we got now, plus work has started already on GT6, so I guess the answer is I don't know.

I am pretty much bored with it TBH. Every online race I do people drive like morons and I am level 25 a spec facing repeating the indy circut for 20 races to level to 26.

All to drive a Miata for 4 hours.

I've played GT5 on a few occasions. I don't care how long it took them to develop it; I enjoyed the game. Though some of the game's flaws do tick me off a little.

Especially online, where you still find crash-happy morons ruining every race.

And there are alot of smaller things that have been overlooked. They had some great ideas but half did most. And the small things make a difference.. Like the map in the middle for rally, good idea? Yep, but wheres the option to move it back to the original position for those who find looking through a map whilst driving very fast hard, but would still like to have a map. And maby a second car dealership where you can buy standardcars. (even if it where an option in one dealership) If they really wanted then they could leave out rare cars for the used car dealership. Give these the used cars pricing and make used cars cheaper, like the bargin bin lol. I could talk for ages but i wont for the sake of others. Gt5 is a great game but it was things like having to do licences and having a stupidly long list of races that really made gt stand out. On that point it was also the little things that really gave gt the one up on amyother game and the feeling of a really finished and polished game.

Can be? Yes I supposed technically... will be... depends on what you draw that line but I don't think so... it would take sooooo much addition and fixing.

It can be fixed easily. Though it's up to PD whether it gets fixed or not.

All I want to see is an attempt to please multiple parties. It's not that difficult. Most things people are arguing over are anything but mutually exclusive.

Exactly. The majority of things fans want implemented/ fixed, would only help the game, not hinder it.

Let's just hope that their "fix" isn't in the form of a DLC that you can download off the PSN for $5.95 for each "fix". Personally myself I love the game =D

expect them ( PD ) to say that they will address these issues "soon", and patch them in the "near future".

People build monumental buildings in 6 years... PD on the other hand has created it's weakest game in the gt series.

Salvaged is a pretty strong word. The game is functional and, to most, is a good time.

Some tinkering would be nice, but it is far from needing to be salvaged.

You have to look at it from PD's perspective. I think some people spend too much time on GTP and the absurd amounts of crying and knashing of teeth on this forum makes some believe that this feeing is universal.

PD knows that their hardcore GT fanbase that is doing the majority of the complaining actually represents a very very small percentage of GT5 owners. You bet, they'll probably roll out some updates and fixes, but for those here who think this game is in need of "salvaging" and major overhaul, I forsee bitter disapointment in your future.

I have played this game a lot in the past week. More than the average player as most of you probably have also. We complain about the games many flaws but, we are missing what is truly there in front of us. There are a lot features in the game that took them a long time to do. For example the game is in 3D, me personally I do not use this feature. Look at it from PD's side you have a game that you have created that you had to redo from 720p to 1080p halfway through development. (Remember when this game was expected to come out Blu-Ray movies were still a new thing and non of the games on the market were 1080p.) Then 3D shows up on the scene and most of the new titles that came out this year for PS3 are in 3D. Call of Duty: Black Ops is a good example. PS3 is the only console game system that provides this technology. Of course Sony is going to want this game to include it also. Head tracking software for the camera's that every household owns if they bought the Playstation move.

The updates will come, things will be better and people will still find things that they do not like. People do not want to do B-Spec races, people do not want to race the same track over and over to get money or level up. That is real racing. Real race car driver do the same tracks over and over till they know every turn and every degree change on the track. I know that is there job, but this a racing simulation game so should that aspect be apart of the game. We will never have a common ground for likes and dislikes of this game no matter how hard we try. We put the GT series on a pedestal cause we are GT fans. We all had some of the highest expectation imaginable.

If this game was perfect, but the graphics looked like "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit" people would skip over the fact that the game play is perfect and complain about the cars not looking good. Now lets get back to racing and trading cars and winning trophies. I do think that Online play will see the biggest updates over the next few weeks.

Regarding to your first paragraph, thats why having a such a long dev cycle is so dangerous. Technology is always advancing.

"Salvage" is a bit of an overstatement don't you think? Apart from a few things that give us gripe, none of which are really deal breakers are they? You're still playing it?

Honestly some people will never be happy, it's like GT5 is their life and it must be perfected one way or another, at all cost, or else QQ

For $70 price of admission, GET OVER IT! was it not worth the $70 you paid for it? $70 is what, a ticket to a show, a ticket to a sporting game? Yet it gives you a pretty big game that has kept you glued to your TV/PS3 for days. Sure it aint perfect but neither are the Lakers. Get over it and move on with your lives.

I personally really enjoy the game. It's alot of bang for $130 I paid for it (CE) and it sure as heck lasted longer than MW2 or Black Ops for me. Block Ops was terrible! Yawn and a half and buggy as

It all depends on if PD are happy or not with the game they produced. We can whine and moan (and I've done a lot) as much as we want on this forum and others like it but if PD don't see it as a problem it won't get fixed. Let's be honest, how many games released get patched and updated so as you see a big difference in gameplay?

Really? For the $70 I spent I have got nothing to speak of. I'm still stuck doing monotonous races with boring cars, not something I'd pay money for. It wouldn't be half bad if I could just sit down and enjoy the game in Arcade Mode, but I can't even do that.

Not quite sure what you were looking for, GT hasn't changed much over the past few iterations.

Perhaps you're looking for something along the lines of Need For Speed....or Mario Kart.

Salvaged? LOL, you make it sound like the game is a huge flop.
Looking at your post history, I see that I'm wasting my time.:dunce:

You know what's funny? Die hard GT fans that put it up on such a pedestal, like it's the best sim in town at the moment and anyone that doesn't like it, must be after an "arcadey" experience. Guess what? The PC sims have and will always do physics better than Gran Turismo.

And what's wrong with Need for Speed and Mario Kart? They are (although "arcadey") fun, something I'd never confuse GT5 of being.

I would imagine they will fix a few small things that nobody cares about. I doubt they will fix major flaws like standard cars or the absolute horror of a dead-end A-spec mode. We'll have to wait another 6 years for GT6... and then bitch and moan about the same stuff that is half-assed.

It's not a bad game, things could definitely be fixed on it (things mentioned above and other threads). I enjoy playing it and just messing around in Arcade mode or Practice and what not. I do feel that I expected more for a game that I paid 100 dollars for, no I didn't have to get the CE but I had high expectations so I did. $60 is still a lot to spend on a game and most games are not worth that price.

i find racing, collecting and looking at cars fun, just a matter of opinion i guess

Which was my point. It's not that person's type of game.

For me, this is an exciting offline racing sim. Of course the physics are not on par with that of iRacing or something similar, those are for the diehard fans which is even indicated by the pay-per-month subscription it requires.

GT is a compromise which was made for the masses. If this isn't your cup of tea, then so be it.

And that's exactly it. The range of cars, the driving, even the graphics bar a few quirks are all pretty good.

The problems start to kick in when you want to go beyond a simple time trial or private race with your friends. A-Spec mode is an abomination. B-Spec is pretty bad too. Online modes are near non-existent, no leaderboards, no matchmaking, just a simple private lobby system. If you do choose to race against the computer, the AI ranges from not bad in some cars (like Super GT) to groin-punchingly awful (NASCAR). Add in the fact that in order to buy new cars you MUST play A-Spec or B-Spec modes to get money, the little you get from Special Events won't go far.

It's a good game, but there's a lot of things getting in the way of enjoying it. Not to say that it can't be enjoyed, but there seems to be a lot of unnecessary crap standing in the way of the good parts of the game.

I knew things were bad when on the very first screen the driver walking through the pits had his feet going in and out of the ground! Attention to detail? Did they even have testers? If so, did anyone check and see if the testers actually turned on this game?!
I like a lot of things about this game, but there are an equal number of things that are simply pathetic that they screwed up.

If what Kaz is saying on his Twitter works out then a lot of the issues people have will be cleared up by the end of this month. Of course there will be other issues. But leaderboards, mechanical damage, performance issues ect. will be implemented by the end of this month.

After that i'd like to see PD treat GT5 like a MMO. And by this i'd like to see a fairly frequent patching process (which they're already doing) and various expansions (new Spec's?) to follow. The first Spec could be something like new cars, additional Special Events ect. It'd give the game a long life, which it needs as it seems clear that GT6 isn't coming out anytime soon.

I hate to bring this up here but, it is relevant to our topic. A few days ago there was a thread created about a letter from a PD explaining all the problems. The thread was closed due to lack of evidence that it was real. Part of the letter mention Sony wanted this game out now, because they wanted to bundle it with there New Bravia 3D TV.

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/30/best-buy-bundling-ps3-with-bravia-3dtvs-and-slashing-prices/

Now either this was some serious guessing by a impostor or maybe just maybe the things that were said are true. The twitter responses have been dead on with what was said in the undetermined letter also. Not trying to get flamed or start up a big argument.
