To start off here are some plans of the early versions of GT5, the picture are of early studies of the layouts of the menu's, its weird that the tuning shop was going to be part of GT AUTO, but then later was removed to its own.

Tunig shop(as you can see there is a extra catalyser)

Special Events(the events look shuffled)

Looks like B-Spec(looks more like the gt4 layout)

Yay! First reply to the thread. Anyways, I would have loved to do "The Stig Challenge" in the Special Events. It would probably much funner than the current Top Gear challenges we have in Special Events. I noticed that some of the levels required to do an event have been raised in the final game. For example, look at the AMG Academy and The Sebastien Loeb Rally Challenge. The levels required to enter are lower. Also, I like the way the B-Spec was presented in the photos you have there. It looks a bit more informative and detailed than the way we have it now. Another thing I liked was that all the tuning parts are in GT Auto. It annoys me that I have to go to the Tuning Shop and not everything is in GT Auto.

Uh, these pictures have appeared many times on GTPlanet. Thanks though.

That Stig Challenge sounded awesome. I'm going to assume Forza had something to do with it being removed, and possibly replaced with the generic Top Gear Test Track challenge events.

It's always interesting to see this kind of pictures. 👍

I like how the tuning shop looked (except for the Stage X buttons), also it looks like it was inside GTAuto.

BTW, The Stig challenge would've been awesome.

I like that layout a lot more than the current one... :(

Due to the nature of the Top Gear license (and, generally, anything BBC-related), it's highly unlikely Forza had anything to do with the lazy TG integration within GT5. That's PD's doing.

I seem to remember the word on most of these images being that they were just mock-ups from PD as to what they hoped the final product would be like, not actual screenshots of a particular build. It was a long time ago, though.

Regardless, that tuning shop looks much better than what we have now. Looks cleaner 👍

Such nice mock-ups though. I remember when these were flying around. I wish they didn't start from scratch, I like how a lot of those screens resemble GT4 only more detailed and such. Especially the B-Spec screen. It looked so cool.

Perhaps now that they have had more time to work on the PS3 GT6 will revert to those layouts and options.

If GT6 comes to ps3 then I think we could expect similar thing to happen with it as happened with gt1 to gt2 or gt3 to gt4. The second version that has come to each platform has usually been miles better than the first one (not trying to say the first ones were awful either!). But if GT6 is coming to ps4 then I'd expect gt5 dejavu all over again.

Thanks for posting these screens though. Always fun to see the development or lack of there of over time :)

Here are new photo's i found of a course maker and a picture of some kind of online B-spec.

Looks like online mode or something to do with B-spec

Has anyone tried adding those guys in the 'online B-Spec' chat box, via PSN? :D

They may hold the answers(!)

Anyone else notice the 'Sprint' layout/option in the Course Creator pic? :)

Plus, what could 'DLS' be? (Top Right - Same Pic.)

DownLoad Speed (percentage of) (Maybe?)

Quite like the row of cars graphics above the main view pane on the BSpec event.

Pictures don't match up in the top one... Map says they are at Dunlop - Incar suggests the Hairpin... and that row of cars graphics contradicts both of those locations... it thinks we are after split 4 (?) and the finish line.
(No wonder they dropped those apples)

interesting pics not withstanding though

The "online B-spec" screen is actually what GT5 online was going to be like, there was 16 spots for racing and a further 16 for watching, that's what that screen was, and the course maker was originally planned to have a choice between point-to-point and circuit. These screens were revealed at Gamescom 2010 IIRC.

Ah memories.:indiff:

They actually had/planned to have the vastly better looking tuning shop within GT Auto - eliminating any unnecessary loading times? Why on earth were they scrapped?

Because PD.

In all honesty, I can't think of a more fitting response. Those tuning screens, whether mock ups or early version, look much better than what we have now, and combining GT auto with the Tuning Shop makes sense for both practicality and loading times.

I've always wondered why we can't install Engine Stages and Weight Reductions from a car's setting page either, but everything else you can. More PD logic.

Given that the surnames are all grape varieties its a safe bet that they are all fake names!

I think the official word on those B-Spec screens was always that they were mockups about what it could look like. Which is a real shame, because they are so much nicer and more useful than the bare bones and barely functioning menu we ended up with.

 You learn something new every day (and you feel like a **** doing it ).

:) so that's why the names were tugging at me...👍

This is such an interesting read.
Thanks Castrol.

Btw, look at the 'buttons are missing' picture - they have 35,000,000 credits. So obviously the 20million-limit wasn't there from the start.

Plus, A-spec and B-Spec are called 'normal' and 'special' events respectively. :)

I want my point-to-point and 10:00AM Toscana tracks. Actually, I'd like 24 hours of time change on Toscana instead of just 4.

It says 100% DLS, though(?)

Yeah, I saw that. I just saw the percentage sign now. I thought it was a box that said if DLS was on. :dunce:
