While some have laughed at Turn 10's two DVD disc Forza Motorsport 3, we are now seeing Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 sporting a 3 Blu Ray disc attack. One blue, one black and one red.

What do they each contain? What should the colors represent, if anything? Are these 3 discs all part of the same main game mode of Gran Turismo 5?.

Might the game have 3 different price ranges, each promising more than the next?

Might the game be split up by:

1. NASCAR
2. WRC
3. Road racing

Are the second discs merely bonus content (DLC related)? What are you hoping they contain?

??:scared:

Who knows, but if there's gonna be different cars on each disc, requiring a MASSIVE install, there'll be rage.

Remember, if they can't fit it all on ONE 50GB disc...

On the other hand, there could be race footage, a developers story behind GT disc, etc, etc, etc.

There’s no way the game itself will occupy more than a single 50Gb Blu-ray disc.

Assuming the other two ARE discs, they’re most likely video presentations, maybe the collected content of GTTV up through release date or something, and may be part of a premium version of the release.

And we don’t know for sure they ARE three discs. Might be two discs and a slipcase for a keyring, photos, souvenir book etc. In fact, I’m thinking the black one isn’t a disc case at all. Game’s in the blue one, additional disc video content on the red, and the black is the goodie pack.

And, they sort of look like three cases, not three discs. You can fit 2-3 discs into the footprint of a case about that size (I have a lot of movies, so am familiar with all kinds of disc packaging) - so now let's speculate about a 9-disc release, as long as we're in speculation mode.

So how’s my theory stack up? One more thing: this is most certainly not the final box artwork, but one of many late-state concept mockups.

blue for arcade mode

red for gt mode

black for the limited edition ad?

Do not be surprised if WRC and NASCAR come only as a tease on GT5 game-disc (few cars and tracks), while full actuall content of both venues - as well as some other licenced venues or whatever - become available only as a separate DLC for intrested players.

This is pure speculation from my behalf, but I see it as a most probable.

I completely second that !

Also think that the blue and red case's contain game play and the other one, the black case, contains goodies ala Forza 3.

OMG, i can already see a new thread being opened regarding what Amar said!

Are we sure that it really is three disc cases? I would think it odd that there is no user manual in the box. That's what I think the black 'box' is.

Yes, Japanses GT4 had a beautifull fat-book with manual in original packaging that never made it's way over the oceans. I agree with you, it is probably the manual.

I think its just marketing material, I don't think GT5 could take more than one double-layered Blu-Ray Disc i.e. 50GB

The other two would most probably Behind the Scenes stuff

May I humbly ask where this info comes from, and also humbly ask the thread opener (or actually every thread opener) to include information on where the content of the topic is coming from?

Not everyone is able to follow every discussion thread, hence topics like this look completely random to a lot of people. Thanks! 👍

I think people are deluding themselves if they think that the actual game element of GT5 will take up more than 50GB of space. I wouldn't expect to install more than 10% of that either, but will happily install the lot if it lets you! People lose track of capacity these days - in terms of actual data, that's a HUGE amount. The most plausible guess here is one where the game is on the blue, bonus video is on the red, and other goodies are in the black.

Why not? 1000 car models ~30mb(or more) each, 20 locations, some cgi videos, uncompresed music. You can fill the 50gb easy...

I hope it is a big install :) I wouldn't mind if it took 100 GB as long as it runs smoothly with reduced loading time!

No way ;) it must fit in the smallest drive ps3 has so 20-40 gb.

Good idea, although it is on the main page (https://www.gtplanet.net)...

Thank you gentlemen! 👍

Although I am the one to blame in this case because I didn't look at the front page (since I never enter this website through it), I still humbly ask everyone to include at least a link or some kind of hint in the opening post to the origin of the discussed info. That way, everyone eager to read more can easily satisfy him-/herself.

My guess?

One disc for Arcade Mode/Online mode with everything unlocked.

A second disc for GT-Mode with everything locked for traditional unlocking by winning.

A third disc would be a "making of" documentary.

seriously, there's no way the game is beyond 50 gb. if there's another disk it will be a bonus behind the scenes disk.

150 gb content 3 disk will be an overkill.

Looks to me like the Black one is infact the game. Notice the writing on the side of the case (compulsory for all PS3 games). Also the case appears to be clear, like all PS3 games. While the Red & Blue one have white cases and no writing. Maybe a making of GT5 on one? That would be very nice indeed... But at this stage it's anyone's guess hey.

I also think the black case is the game. And I think that one of the other cases will contain a book and one a disc with the making of or something.

We will have to wait and see.

The Game on one Blu-Ray

One or more documentaries on a second Blu-Ray

A Detailed Manual that goes in to great depth about driving and tuning.

Has it crossed anyone's minds that during that video the SLS took 6 months to model....wow.
Well, it didn't cross my mind as such - it was clearly stated in the video! Not sure what that has to do with capacity either, but hey ho!

It's already known that there is about 6 months worth of work per car in GT5 when you equate that to one FTE (Full Time Equivalent). This then, is no different in that regard. Get 10 people working on different elements of that car (easily achievable with such a large team), and that 6 months turns into just 2.5 weeks. Throw 15 people on it and you get to roughly 1.5 weeks.

If the SLS is the cover car, then I think it's a fine choice. I agree with KY that it will probably be the most exciting car at the time of the game's launch.
