I made a post about 1 month ago, claiming how GT6 crashes on my PS3 when I start a race. I tried a few things (ex. restore file system) but nothing seemed to work.

So, here's whats happening: Whenever I start a race or online session, the music in the background stops playing. When I exit (in single player), it takes at least 10 minutes to get the home screen back. But whenever I start a race again, it does the same. This is why I can't do any races in Gran Turismo 6. Can anyone find a solution?

Your thread title says that your PS3 crashes, but from your description that's not really the case. I just want to be clear on this, because it's too confusing right now in order to help you. When a race starts, are you able to hit the start button on your controller and use the menu from there? The impression I got is that you can exit out of the race at least, but you can't do anything else.

No. When I start the race, the music does not play, although I can press buttons. I selected "Start Race", and an hour later, nothing happened.

Do you need to turn off your PlayStation 3 completely? What did you do after you waited an hour?

Do other games have this problem? If not then i'm leaning towards something with your hard drive and you might want to just outright replace it with a brand new one. If you have a spare hard drive on hand, put it in your PS3 and use that and see what happens.

GTA 5 frequently crashes while online.

It's Grand Theft Auto 5, not Gran Turismo 5.

Haha i'm sorry! My brain left out an A there, that's my bad. In my defense though I think what I said still applies. :D In all seriousness though, can I ask you to test another game? If not, or if your PS3 is still crashing, try replacing the hard drive.

I'm having issues with my PS3 too. It crashes whenever I play in an online lobby. I usually quit the game whenever it becomes difficult for the game to load and then my PS3 just crashes right there.

Mine used to crash ALL THE TIME online, and then it crashed watching a replay and then my PS3 stopped reading blu-rays.

Solution was to replace the blu-ray laser. Haven't had a single crash since.

OP sounds very similar to my experience. I can't remember the last time I had an online racing session without a problem. It seems especially bad at Mount Panorama and the chance to race at Bathurst was one of the major reasons I bought the latest version. I usually have to use the XMB to quit the game as there is no other option to exit the broken session. About half of the time it doesn't quit the game properly and I get the three beeps and have to restart the PS3 etc. I have listed this problem many times here all to no avail. GT is the only game I play on the PS3 so can't check any others although many other GT players have described the same problems I am experiencing.
I have now given up and stopped playing GT. I have every version of GT and some in all three regions. I lurk here occasionally to see if anyone has posted that the problem has been fixed. I am trying iRacing currently and finding it a bit satisfying for now. Perhaps other GT fans could do the same until PD and/or Sony are able to fix GT.

Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the game data? You'll have to re-download all of the updates, but it'll give you a fresh install and that might be the reason why your game is hanging on races. As long as you don't touch your save data then you won't lose anything, and it'll take a few hours to redownload and reinstall everything. If that's not it, you might have to do a complete system wipe on the PS3. Make sure you back up your save data to a USB if it comes to that.

i have similar problems, my ps3 chrashes with gt6 when i switch cars in garage and sometimes while driving
in most cases it crashes at the exact time when its about to load a car from garage and when i get new vgt car or any other car new in that screen where you win a car and it asks you if you want to drive it

i already did a full system restore, and reinstalled gt6 a few times, nothing seems to work

at this point i believe it is the hdd problem, but it doesn't crash with any other game

Are you sure you have enough free hard drive space? Try deleting unused files to increase available space.

Try disabling/deleting music playlist > not just turning music volume off/O volume in sound menu (later, just turns volume off , but music is still streaming/reading from bR in background)

Go into > garage > gallery > music > playlists and delete playlist for "race music". Doing this will disable music(streaming) , so if problem is in your blu-ray drive getting wear off, it may help.

Try disabling background music in races. It might seem stupid but its one thing that the PS3 wont have to deal with, so it might work.

Went to load up Gran Turismo there, got stuck trying to connect to a room. Then I decided to put Grid back in lol.

I'm back to report that reinstalling the data did not help at all. Besides, laser replacement looks far too complicated ,and an external SSD is expensive. Any other suggestions?

If disabling music & sound doesn't fix the problem as others have stated, your only other choice aside from hardware replacement would be a reformat on your PS3. Reinstalling the game data shows that it wasn't corrupted, so the only other things that could be causing the freezing are faulty audio playback from PS3 updates or a worn out BR laser. Do you have any CDs or DVDs to try on your PS3 to see if they'll play normally? Or Blurays?

Just tried deleting the Race BGM files to disable the music. Found a 500PP lobby to race in and managed to complete one race. Started preparing for the next race and the host changed the car weight setting and the PS3 froze. Fortunately the PS3 key brought up the SMB and I was able to quit the game. Got the dreaded 3 beeps and the system is now checking and restoring the system!
Thanks for all the advice but I really feel that this a software issue. In any case, until Sony and/or PD are prepared to hear about the problem this isn't much more I can do but spend my dollars with someone else.

No one suggested deleting files. Now the game will be looking for files that aren't there.

GT6 options menu --> sound settings --> turn off music.

That way, the game doesn't try looking for the music files to begin with.

OP has disc version, you have digital version? Good chance they are different issues then.

jimi, I think the above post is pretty clear and deleting the playlist is exactly what I did. I also don't have the digital version but the Anniversary Edition on bluray. jimi, I have been a very serious supporter of GT for many years (since 1999 racing and posting at granturismo.com) and spent a lot of dollars on the game in that time. I am 60 years old and I doubt I have enough life left to see a GT game that works online unless we go back to GT5 Prologue. That remains the best racing I have had on GT to date. I am just really ticked off that we have Mount Panorama available and I can't use it online! At this point, I really doubt that I will line up for an expensive early model PS4 like I did with my PS3 just to play GT.
