They make $0 dollars from GT content updates, they make millions from those Microsoft games. They love it.
I bet it hurts more than their ego

I am British, so perhaps biased, but Silverstone is the greatest of all race circuits and I miss it. It has some of the best corners in all motorsport, all in one place.
Man...i have been predicting Silverstone was gonna return for a couple of years. I agree with you...its iconic track that should be in GT7 without a doubt. But if they cant/wont do Silverstone...Monaco (Cote d Azure circuit) would be a very welcomed return for me anyway. Especially since the F1 race is coming Memorial weekend. Same for Indianapolis track for the 500 coming Memorial weekend. Or maybe a fictional track like Red Rock Valley or Apricot Hill. I have too many thoughts! Haha

Silverstone's rumoured licensing fee is absurd, so it's unlikely to happen.

That's the only circuit less likely than Silverstone, primarily because Monaco is extremely protective of its image rights (which are owned by the Crown) and Cote d'Azur was as close to a copy as possible to the point of everyone calling it Monaco. That moves it into the realms of being a slam-dunk lawsuit: if a reasonable person thinks it's Monaco, it's open and shut.
Are the guys on here that gave the odd hint about updates still active? Would love a wee hint about this one!!
I can be absolutely confident in what the reaction will be - assuming that this is a content update, of course.

There'll be some cars some people like. Also some others that people don't like. If all of the cars aren't the exact vehicles that are vitally important to them to have in GT7 for some reason - like, even if there's a new GT3 car but it's not the specific one from a particular season and team - there'll be rage and "dead game" comments. The slowest car will be met with rage either way, and if there's even one Japanese car there'll be a bunch of borderline racist comments (on Twitter/Facebook/YouTube of course, rather than here).

What exactly is "open and shut"? Or to put it another way, what law prevents PD or any other racing game developer from putting a track in their game based on public roads in Monaco?

I don't recall the name of the law, but in essence it is illegal to photograph or film pretty much anything pretty much anywhere in Monaco for anything but tourist reasons (and even then, some sites are still illegal to photograph or film, whether you're standing in a public place or not) without a specific licence to do so, for which you must apply to the Societe des Bains de Mer - which is largely owned by the Crown. And 5% owned by Louis Vuitton.

"Ah, but what if it's not photographs or video, but CGI based on the exact same streets and happens to look exactly the same?"

Well, now you're getting into a legal grey area over image rights. Monaco basically owns the image rights to... it; there isn't really the same "public space" rules of pretty much any other western nation. Reproducing it, particularly if it's quite exact, is pretty blatantly an attempt to use the look of it without paying for the (almost certainly refused, due to existing agreements) rights to do so.

There's arguments both sides, like "how do you get it to look identical without referencing photographs and video that were shot under licence, thus using them contrary to the licence" and "it's literally the whole-ass duck", but the primary one in defence of "but it's not Monaco 'cos we don't call it Monaco" is eroded by the "reasonable person" test. If a "reasonable person" would mistake the copy for the original, it's a slam dunk; every time someone says Cote d'Azur is Monaco, or Monaco was in GT3/4/whatever, it's another F in the box.

I predict the 812 is coming! Everyone has harked on about this car for the last 3 plus years that it must be here now....surely.....🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
I have been waiting for it for the longest time. And its been in the datamine for over 2 years

Update May 15 is what I (and surely many others on the Maypril prediction thread) was expecting. Imho, the (rumoured) 4 car update will serve as a pacifier for us, while imho the big update is June after unveiling the track at GTWS as imho it makes perfect sense. (Which could also mean imho two possible outcomes: 1) they shut off updates one month early this year and we see no July nor August update; 2) they shift one month earlier compared to 2024 skipping July instead of August)

It would be nice if something of great importance and captivating could appear, and only a circuit creator can do that. A new circuit is a matter of months, people are no longer interested (pikes peak exclude), new cars, like Panda or 2CV, it will be the same. GT have lucky to have the design creator and photo mode, with which it manages to maintain a lot of users, because in terms of racing, most people do the weekly TT, and they don't even buy cars, they rent them. Those who want to buy all the cars, repeat to the limit, the races with a good payment and little more than that. Online races and rooms (P$plus required) we all know what goes on there.

I like how you start with “as I was expecting” and than go on to just make up some stuff 😂😂

Well, I was indeed expecting the update to come May 15, and I also wrote it in the Maypril prediction thread. The rest yes, it's stuff made up as a possible reasoning to explain why it would come now.
Edited the original post to make it less ambiguous

At this point, I'm completely clueless as to what they're going to add. I'm... I dunno how to say that. Neutral?

I'd be really curious how the reasonable person test holds up if they recreated the exact same road/track layout, but put it in an entirely different scene. What if it was the Cote but with Tokyo Expressway themed buildings instead? Better yet, what if they turned it into a Grand Canyon or Rainforest vibe? Like scanning the track (or recreating) and plunking it on Mars, would there still be illegality to it then?

I’m hoping Fuji, The Glen and Nürburgring GP. For fictional circuits, I really need St Croix though. ;)
100%. Do not forget sardegna layout A 😀
Kyoto would be great too, just like the daily race we had a couple of weeks ago.

I'm anxious to see which tracks will get the Sophy update next. Hopefully more of the real world circuits.
It would be great to have all tracks and layouts integrated with Sophy. We can only dream...

Yeah, I guess we both know new GT3 cars are very unlikely. A man can dream, though.
"New", like during GTS days at launch we would get pretty recent GT3 cars dating 2016 or below, like Mercedes AMG GT3, Audi R8 GT3 and so on.

This GT3 complain is pretty much became a "meme" at this point and all it takes is to add around ~5 cars from manufacturers like BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and etc. Maybe we may see those in GT8 as always.

I want a Buick GNX so bad. Please!
That would be a really savvy choice. Add a big white stage as a Scapes location while we're at it...

I'd personally be delighted if we get another UK circuit at some point, selfishly. Since Silverstone's unlikely as Famine said, I guess the most likely is Donington. I've been making a lot of UK national racing liveries lately, I'd like more places to race them that feel authentic!
