From a business standpoint, I wonder what the over/under is that would influence Sony to instruct PD to go full-fledged on GT8, as opposed to using GT7 as the “bones” for the entire life cycle of PS5?

From a casual onlooker’s POV, it seems like it would be significantly more lucrative to continue developing the “seemingly” unrealized potential of GT7, and just gradually fill in the blanks that the game currently has; including a PS5-only B-spec for somewhere in the realm of $20-40. Seems like no one is clamoring for next-gen graphics. And all the desires and features that the fans want, can surely be handled by a base PS5. Seems that the labor and promotional costs that would be saved BY NOT churning out a completely new game for PS5 would more than be worth it.

I just can’t help but think that the drip feed of content, the currently useless licenses, and the missing difficulty level isn’t at least in some way, on purpose. Logic would tell me if they were seriously thinking about giving us a completely new game in 2-3 years; they wouldn’t leave so much on the table with GT7, 18 months into its life cycle.

Maybe GT7 is genuinely the best that PD can do nowadays. What players see as drip feed and withholding content is just PD's maximum output.
I don't think I can believe that. I believe they had a backlog to burn through in Sport, then they built up a bit toward the end with the lighter/stopped updates to have new content for GT7, and now they're building a backlog for GT8 or for future updates in GT7 after they stop properly developing for it.

There's no way they were producing that fast before, while being so slow now, with very little improvement in quality. It just doesn't make sense.

Maybe we’ll see a video about GT7 in another 15 years.

At this rate instead of 3 cars per month and 3 tracks per year, GT8's update schedule will be 1 car every 3 months and 1 track every 3 years.

Crossposting between this thread and the one related to the 1.36 update... Since I had talked about these same issues both here and there.

Guys, talking about adding new events, new tracks, new cars, etc. I was quite hasty, I simplified a lot... I'll try to argue better now.

In regards to new events, in truth it seems to me that there is little to add to what I have already said: perhaps it's the only issue on which we are all quite in agreement. There are so many new events they could add, the only thing they have to look after is not to give the events names that would lead to licensing issues (so, for example, they can't add an event called "Le Mans 24H", because Motorsport Games has the license for his Le Mans Ultimate). But other than that, they really could add a little bit of everything.

A clarification: yes, I admit it, I pay more attention to events with racing cars (Gr. 1, Gr. 2 which by the way is inexplicably "forgotten", Gr. 3 and Gr. 4), both because for me Gran Turismo it is more of a racing game than a driving game, and also because Polyphony Digital itself has gradually hinted that the series is destined to go more in that direction, especially from GT Sport onwards. The addition of such particular cars (such as the Toyota HiMedic) or tracks quite far from the most common idea of a racing track (such as the Grand Valley Highway), are for me on the one hand a tribute to the tradition of the series, which undeniably was NOT born with such great attention only to racing cars and proper tracks, but in another way a "digression". Sometimes I think: "What the heck PD, make a decision ... What do you really want to do?". Because I don't understand...

In any case, I'm fine with Polyphony Digital also adding events, cars and tracks that can satisfy those users who love different experiences from those with proper racing cars on proper tracks: I would like all of us enthusiasts to be happy when we play this title. Whether it's racing with Gr. 3 at Spa-Francorchamps, or cruising around Tokyo with road cars, or inventing bizarre races with ambulances, or drifting races... So it's true that I would like more "racing" events (in the sense which I explained), but I'm not saying that PD should ONLY add those.

Having said this, however, it is clear that for me, also with regard to the cars to be added, I would like to see more recent racing cars, in the various categories... There is the licensing problem on this, it's true, it's undeniable... But if small software houses (such as Kunos Simulazioni, or KW Studios, formerly known as SimBin and Sector3 Studios, and also Slightly Mad Studios) manage to solve licensing problems, which are usually money problems, we know it... Are we really supposed to believe that PD, which has Sony behind it, can't solve these same problems? Really? Come on...

Also in this case, I repeat... I'm fine with PD also adding cars other than the proper racing ones.

Regarding the tracks, a different story... There may be licensing problems for the real ones (but, as I said before, they could be solved), but for the fictional ones, at least in this sense, one could not try to do something more? There are many classic tracks that we would like to review, obviously suitably updated, adapted to today's graphic standards too... Even tracks that are not really "racing" (for example Circuito de la Sierra, which by the way only appeared in GT6... wasn't it a waste of resources to create it for just one title in the series?).

In conclusion... The meaning of my speech, and I hope you agree with me, beyond the specific preferences that each of us has, which may or may not be shared but which must always be respected... PD could do more, much more, and it's not doing it.

Guys is there a stream to watch today for a prize?
Yes. It's in your game. I did an entire event preview article yesterday with this sort of information in it.

The mountains that appear in the video of the polyphony production team are Mount Eiger?

I'd guess those are the Bernese Alps, yes! The mountain on the right with the M-shaped peak looks like Jungfrau, so the Eiger itself may be off-screen to the left. Furthermore, in that same video (Thanks @Nathan88 ) at 40:48 is a 3D model of the Kleine Scheidegg Railway Station (and another, smaller building before that)

Edit: For clarity, this building was a trackside landmark on Eiger Nordwand Short Track and K Trail, and could imply the return of either or all Eiger Nordwand routes (Short, K, G, W), which excites me very much!

I'd love to be proven wrong but could these not just be captures from GT6's development? It's not unlike PD to use stuff like that to show the rough process. We saw old footage of them scanning Ascari in another presentation.

I'd love to prove you wrong, I'll start now! :D
This video segment was showing off fancy new Sony cameras, GT7 and photogrammetry. It's not GT6 Matterhorn development stuff from 2011-13, it's the Eiger, and the Eiger Nordwand track debuted in GTHD, in 2006! It looks like PD went back, in the last 5 years.
Besides the three new models and Alpine point cloud, they also show Laguna Seca's wireframe and 360° footage from Spa, the last two locations added to GT Sport in 2019, lending more evidence to this being relatively recent, and hopefully meaning Eiger Nordwand is coming back to Gran Turismo some year soon.

I'm also quite intrigued by the banana leaves, pineapples and other tropical plants shown being scanned, as that lines up with what we know about their track creation process, and I'm extremely keen for a tropical track, especially on a certain island...

If I recall correctly, Eiger Nordwand was part of the datamine list from ages ago, but was maybe considered a dormant/leftover file. The only layout found there was the Short Track, but it would be cool to have the rally circuits return too (if this happens at all).

A mountain circuit like Eiger Nordwand or Matterhorn would be something unique in the current roster of GT7

An arcade game SWDC, SEGA World Drivers Championship had 2017 and 2018 Super GT cars.
https://swdc.sega.jp/ (Japanese site)

This game ended on 2021 but there may be some license problems.
There were fears that it was why GT Sport launched with no Super GT cars, but that proved not to be the case.

I want to show you a comment that i shared in the July Prediction Update Forum which can probably leak the track Eiger Norwand
The leak comes from a question that a random guy said to Nenkai and which he response:
"If we do see the track that i'm thinking about you'll be either disappointed and surprised. It's unusual, this is all I can say for now before it get released."

And this sounds like a new Dirt Track
A good point for the addition of Eiger Norwand
And it combine perfectly with the first part, in the specifif: you'll be either disappointed and surprised
I think the people surprised about the addition are probably the players which played the older GT Titles, while the dissapointed ones the guys which started playing the GT Title from GT Sport and onwards (Not all the people).
If it will be added I will be really happy, I really like Mountain Tracks.

Thanks for listening :)

Too bad the credits for 1st place is awful. It doesn't even make sense (like the rest of WTC 800 events). This is a 20-minute race without rain and 25+ with it. 160k credits without the especial CRB conditions for 20 minutes...
^This

That's my only gripe with the race. They nailed it with the random weather, and the distance, but the payout is peanuts. You could do 550 Performance Pepper race six times and still get a better payout if you clean race it.

To be fair. I love this event:

Same is the first 800pp event with low payout I done multiple times now.

It still has the same problem with the AI and Rain and so it makes it easy to win.

Rain comes on lap 2 so you pit the ai doesn't till lap 3 and well you know the rest.

My favorite car to use is the ts050 makes me feel like I'm doing a muti-class race.

I ran that race and very light rain towards the end of the race, but no need to change tyres. It was brief. I kept looking at the clouds from the start of the race and nothing happened through to my first pit stop.
