I doubt the game that they showcased PS5 Pro is waiting on polishing at this point. But it might make more sense to group all those new features together to market the Pro/content update, the world series events, and MFGT.

If the the pro patch was finished they’d release it for launch of the pro - simple as that.

The “group features together” logic makes no sense.

Just because the vertical slice they showcased a few weeks ago looked good doesn’t mean they are ready for prime time.

PD themselves must have known for a while they were behind - I went back to check what they actually said when asked, turns out they never said they’d make launch. They said they were targeting a November release.
 
I'm interested in discussing the categorization of brands in GT7. More specifically, here's a list of topics:

1. First of all, why is Mini considered German? I understand that they got bought out by BMW around the turn of the millennium, but in a similar sense, it's not like Lamborghini is also German, nor Bugatti, despite both being own by Volkswagen AG.

2. Do you think AMG should still be its own brand? AMG-branded models were under Mercedes in GT Sport, but I'm a bit divided, as it's not as if the Nissan R35 GT-R Nismo is placed alongside the Nismo 400R. What do you suppose determines a model from an in-house tuner being listed as a car from that same tuner in itself, as opposed to under the brand that the original car came from? Could it be a matter of whether the car is "transformational," in a sense? Or perhaps in the case of the R35 Nismo, Nissan might just be using the Nismo name more akin to a trim, with Nismo being its own thing at the time the 400R was released but ultimately being straight-up absorbed into Nissan proper. Whereas maybe this didn't happen with AMG, hence AMG being its own brand in GT7. If the BMW M1 came to GT7, would it still be a BMW, or would M become its own brand as well?

3. Speaking of Mercedes, I wonder what sort of models from the company could come to GT7, without necessarily being the more powerful AMG models? I think we've covered some of the most iconic ones, like the SLR McLaren, the 190E Evo II, and the 300SL, but I have confidence there's more that could come to Mercedes-Benz proper in GT7. I could certainly see the rotary-powered C111 concept car coming, as well as the road-going version of the CLK-LM, the latter of which is far more elusive than the more famous CLK-GTR road car. But otherwise, I can only see various AMG models coming, like the G63 AMG, which could be good competition for the Lamborghini Urus. There's also the AMG ONE hypercar, or even older AMG models like the SL65 (R230) AMG Black Series that I first learned about through NFS: Hot Pursuit (2010). I think I heard something about a 500E being in the datamine, too, but I'm rightfully taking that - or any other datamine, for any franchise - with a grain of salt.

4. Now that we do have Nismo with the 400R, do you suppose TRD and Mugen could come alongside it? I admit this is more speculative, but I do personally hope we get those two, as well as the Nismo 270R and Nismo Skyline GT-R LM Road Going Version.

5. Back to that first question, I also wonder what other Mini models could come? I'd be down for a JCW-branded model, at least, or maybe even a racing version that could go into Gr.4. The return of the newer Countryman would also be welcome, by me.

These two have the same answer: Cars are branded how the licensor wants them to be, PD almost certainly aren't going "well I think we should split out AMG for GT7" without Mercedes dictating that. Generally manufacturers care more about current model branding than historic, so the M1 would likely just be a BMW. All the Dodges that became SRTs in GT6 before reverting to Dodge in Sport/7 are another example.

In the case of Nissan/Nismo specifically, the cutoff has generally that Nismo homologation-style trims like the R32 and R35 Nismos stay as Nissans, whereas heavily Nismo-developed cars like the 270R and 400R, and specially developed Nismo tunes like the R34 Z-tune would be Nismos.
 
Yeah it's kinda weird. In GT Sport we had Renault & Renault Sport as 2 seperate brands, and only 1 Mercedes-Benz.

Now in GT7 the two Renault brands are combined together, but AMG is seperate from Mercedes-Benz.

It's also weird searching by manufacturer and having the majority of Mercedes cars under "A" instead of "M".

I think in the case of Renault is a perfect example of Manufacterers making this decisions as you have to remember what the Renault Group was doing marketing wise at the time GT Sport came out: Renault Sport was the current sporty brand withe their lineup (which as you saw, was basically anything with RS in the name or a racing model) while the old racing car was under Renault but did also Sport the "Renault Classic" on the license plate. Now Alpine has superceded Renault Sport as that Sporty brand (Hence the at times questionable corporate decisions with the F1 team and them actually buying a significant stake in WEC team Signitech) so as a result, anything not a "Alpine" is just under one "Renault" name.

Plus, AMG cars aren't allowed in the Mercedes-Benz Scapes... I'm still sore about this.
 
Kaz doesn't care for GT7 or 8 or 9 anymore....

I get the feeling that the guy has moved on and now is on vacation mindset indefinitely, to discover the beautiful world we live in...

He is essentially saying and sharing the fact that we are spending too much time with our console, we should just go outside and find shadows everywhere...

It's all about natural light shows from astronomy...

The weirdest one to me was when the Dodge Ram from GT4 was retroactively placed under the RAM brand in GT6.

So there should be a new job opening posting at PD to replace Kaz...


Who do you think would be a worthy replacement for Kaz to make the series better ?

Is there any potential candidate?

As weird as GT is now, it'd be dead in someone else's hands. For all it's flaws, Gran Turismo hasn't completely turned 100% into the Souless empty carcuss of a franchise that increasingly saturates gaming. The moment he's gone, those in-game things to "Refill" your credits with real money is in your face with no option to hide it. Those obscure models that we love to talk about or the oddball vehicles that the community enjoys will vanish. And you know how people hate the always online nonsense that makes The current Forza game unplayable AT ALL if you don't have internet (As in, I hope you love staring at the most cursed color and Car combo that IS that cover Car because that's all you're doing). That's happening with Gran Turismo as well, as oppose to the current arrangement where you can still play the game just with fewer features. Oh and we can't forget those free updates never being free again as well as 2 player split screen no longer a thing because "Nobody does that anymore" according to the bean counters.

And you just know the replacement will completely axe the single player experience because once again, the suits STILL do no believe single player games are relevent (Despite the sales of certain franchises proving otherwise).

...not to mention that most of Sony's other first-party offerings have single-player and story-heavy lean to them.

It depends on who the successor would be I think. It could be someone already in Polyphony that has worked closely with Kaz for a long time, so would get the philosophy of Gran Turismo well.
And there's still a possibility for Kaz to remain in an advisory role for a while after stepping down from being CEO & Producer.

I don't think things would get that far.

But only because I think Sony would see an opportunity to close PD first, that's the current big gaming executive playbook - any studios whose output has uncertainty towards being a guaranteed success has a high chance of going in the bin to fuel stock prices right now.

That and Sony closed Japan Studio under the exact same circumstances - their most legacy developer with big past successes producing games in a niche genre where all of the big name producers had recently left.

Game is rushed and you're all playing a half-baked beta-test called GT Sport 2...game support is awful too.

Nobody should be anything, there’s a lot to criticize about the game and it’s support, but there’s also a lot good to mention that shouldn’t be ignored in a discussion like this, anything else wouldn’t be fair.
The quality of the delivered content in terms of cars is unmatched, no developer right now can compete with what PD does and this content is free as already mentioned.
PD delivered a lot of cars that the community wished for like the Escudo, Toyota GT-One, Lexus LFA, Mercedes Evo II, Ford RS500, Xj220, all the Lancers, Porsches and so on.
Scapes, if you like them or not, are also quality wise just great and unique in the gaming world, they surely also take some time and work.
All of this gets added to a game that is in its foundation technological almost flawless I would say, so it also took some time and effort before that others obviously didn’t invest like Turn 10 for example.
And again, if you like these or not, but programs like VGT, Sophy, partnerships with brands like Michelin, Brembo etc. and things like the World Series also probably eat up resources but bring benefits other developers don’t have and push the racing game genre forward, something PD always did and that shouldn’t be this easily ignored in my opinion.

But there’s also things like lacking events, rain option missing on several tracks, lack of communication and promises that PD didn’t deliver on that sure can‘t be ignored too.

I think this is a good point. Compared to other devs with live service games (like Bethesda), PD under Kaz are miles ahead. I'm not saying they're perfect of course, as all humans and human institutions are imperfect, but what I am saying is that it's worth looking at how well PD is handling their franchise compared to other devs. The general trend in gaming is en****tification in my opinion, something Gran Turismo has largely avoided

Try to bring this up in any GT7 discussion and see how many people jump you🤣.
This franchise is getting carried by graphics alone, that's why most of the comments on any post focus mostly on that. Remove "cool graphics" from GT7 and see what's left.

But maybe not many people are ready for this discussion yet.
 
Actually that has been discussed for a long time here. There have been a lot of discussions about the nature of GT7 and everything that is wrong with it. Even people who love the game admit it is very flawed. If you don't like the game that's cool nobody is going to jump for that.

Maybe i haven't been here long enough to see that but all i'm seeing is a constant glorification of Kaz like he's the savior of racing games and things like that. 🤣

We have had people call for him to retire and let someone else run the franchise. Most of the people are really passionate about this series and only want the best and GT7 is not the best we have seen from PD. To me it's a shame because I love the livery editor, engine swaps and it has quite a few of my favorites cars but the career mode, in game economy, uselessness of many cars, poor AI and the chase the rabbit race take away from it.
