I had around 66m Credits saved up from when I stopped near-daily playing GT7 around two years ago and went about catching up on all the new engine swaps today. I went through Famine's list of swaps starting from the top and was down to my last 5m Credits by the time I was done with Suzuki. Yeesh.

Admittedly I dished out a combined 20m on the two F1 GTR swaps. Had I skipped those I would likely have been able to get everything else. The cost for those particular swaps is ludicrous, but I have no self-control and I wanted them now. What can you do? 🤷

Anyway, I didn't even get all the swaps up until Suzuki because I was missing 30 cars that aren't available right now (including the Porsche 356 A Speedster '56 as well as two Suzuki Escudos). Considering the expected cost of completing my collection I might start ramping up my activity in GT7 again. Maybe I'll add a few more stock cars to my Tokyo WTC 600 winners list. That race pays really well and I remember it being pretty damn fun to do with all sorts of different cars 🙂

Edit: I saw just now that the Collection menu in the Garage also shows your completion of base colours for each individual model. That is just nuts! 😮 Is there anyone on here who has actually achieved full completion of that?

The 2022 datamined cars that have been released, for what it's worth, all have IDs that would put them as GT Sport update or GT7 launch cars.

The way IDs work, roughly, is:
  • Cars that were in GT4, GT5, or GT6 are the first 2000 or so IDs, with GT4 cars first. If a car gets added back that was in these games, they reclaim their own ID (eg the Mugen Motul Civic is still 683). The list starts only at GT4 - cars that were only in GT1-3 but not 4-6 get new IDs (eg R32 Nismo, Super Silhouette, Espace F1).
  • 2000-2200 and 3200-3300 are GT Sport launch car IDs. 2200-3200 is a big empty gap that I have no idea why it is so.
  • Then from 3300-3600 is GT Sport update->GT7 launch->GT7 update cars, in rough release order (it's not exact, for example the RX-V GT3 Evo is before the v1.71 cars, but it's close enough that you notice the pattern). GT7 launch cars end at about 3500. There are gaps, both individual ones and a couple of bigger patches (eg 3593-3598 is a six-car gap around the Spec III cars that is almost certainly the Power Pack cars, though those aren't on the car list on the website so I can't say for certain).
The only big exception to this is the datamine cars, which all have IDs in the 3300s and 3400s when you would expect them to have IDs of 3500+ by release order. For example, the Caterham, which was in the datamine, is ID 3395 when the other v1.71 cars are in the 3600s. I would expect a bunch of the remaining ID gaps there to be the other cars that were in that list.
At the time of the last GT Sport car, GR86 '21, was released, that car had ID of 3481, which is 62 numbers away from the second-last GT Sport cars (GR Supra '20 at 3418 and original RX-Vision GT3 at 3419). Some of the earliest GT7 day one debutants in this territory are:
  • 3375: 356 A/1500 GS Carrera '56 (coupe)
  • 3391: Shelby GT350R
  • 3393: Carrera GT
A number of datamine cars are also in GT Sport/GT7 transition territory: the Caterham Seven R500 (3395) is after the DBR9 (3394), while the Challenger SRT Demon (3486) is surrounded by two day one cars (3485: AMG GT Black Series and 3487: Mustang Boss 429).

Additionally, this list confirms that 3593-3598 are for Power Pack cars.

EDIT: Furthermore, the F12berlinetta's ID is 3267, which is GT Sport day one cars territory (there's also the facelift 86 GT in 3295, which was added in an update; the 991 GT3 RS at 3268 separates both cars with a gap of 27, to boot). The Italdesign VGTs have ID of 2119/2120 too, further confirming my suspicions it was meant for GT6.

It's crazy to me that GT7 will enter it's fifth year in 2027 - making it the most supported GT game of all time. But I have to wonder - when are we getting a new GT? The gap between the release of GT6 and GT Sport was almost 4 years (December 2013 - October 2017) and the gap between GT Sport and GT7 was a little more than 4 years (October 2017 - March 2022). GT has never gone this long between drinks so we are in unchartered territory now. Is GT8 going to get announced next year? I hope so because we are due for a new game.

As long as people keep buying it and keep playing it they will keep supporting it. They will announce GT8 when they are good and ready.

Not sure I’d like to see GT8 any time soon. Let them litter GT7 with some more tracks please and more car updates to round out some classes or groups.

They could let you reset your progress I suppose. While keeping your cars.

I think I just don’t feel like re-earning a bunch of cars again. I’d like content updates since the single player in my opinion isn’t all that much fun. Would rather race with friends than do chase the rabbit all by myself. Now if they added do the championships with a friend. That would be cool. Like having a teammate on the track with you. That would be an epic update.

I'm with you.

I feel that with the constant updates, additions to the car roster and new engine swaps, it would be antithetical to make us trash all of those (and forget about our completionist ambitions) to switch the game at any point soon. Saying that, I think it's looking more and more unlikely that they are planning any major revamp to the single player. Perhaps they will just refine the Custom Race options a bit further (default tyre glitch fix when?) so that we may realise whichever grids we can imagine. The car concierge is a step in the right direction.

The Porsche and Suzuki are available now in the LCD.
Collecting all the colors of all the cars would far exceed the 2000 car garage limit.

Yeah I saw that, thanks. Those purchases ate up most of my remaining Credits. I still have 100+ leftover GT-R engines from back in the day, but I still had to scrape together the cash for the Porsche and second Escudo engine swaps. Oh and speaking of cash, I'm struggling to get the 50% bonus Credits for the Tokyo WTC 600 race. The game seems a lot less lenient on granting a clean race bonus than I remember.

Or maybe I'm just a lot more crap than I used to be 🙊
