Back in my day🤣 a video game company had to come out with final copy that the majority of people were happy with. You couldn’t update a cartridge 2-3 times in the first month of release. And let me tell ya I had to walk uphill in the snow both ways just to rent one of those perfected pieces of art. I’m just joking around about most of it. Besides the snow part😱🤙🏽
I remember renting a Nintendo something or other (it had a CD drive) and a copy of an Alien game for a couple of weeks at a time! I'm fairly chilled about the constant patching, provided the end result is worth it. I am a bit p'd off that Frontier have dropped console development for Elite, my other gaming obsession, but that is for another forum. Anyway, I played the basically never patched GT2, 3 A-Spec and 4 as a happy bunny. I didn't like 5, so didn't bother with 6. I only came back to GTS a year ago, by which point it was a fully functional game, so I missed all the development issues. Funnily enough, I did the same with DriveClub, so I only ever saw the polished result.
Back to the argument in hand though, this time I took a risk pre-ordering. In fairness, I'd already put the money aside for BF2042, which my spidey-senses steered me off (definitely dodged a bullet there, pun fully intended), so I felt it was worth it. Mostly, it was IMHO. I only play for a couple of hours a day, so I only finished the café menus a day or so ago and I'm now going back to gold all the races I didn't win on the way, and diving properly back into the Livery Editor. There is plenty of content to keep me happy and hopefully more cars etc coming over the next few months.
I do have issues. There are couple of game menu choices which are stupid (having to go in an out of GT Auto is particularly annoying), and some weird physics around the rallies (how a physics engine that can process pretty well differences in downforce settings and tyre conditions can have such a poor grasp of how gravity works is a concern). There are also some baffling gaps in the car line-up because it's still, basically, the GTS line-up, so almost nothing newer than 2017, but I'm mostly happy.
And let's face it, life is too short, and too precious, to be a grumpy b@stard!!
