This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

PlayStation State of Play September 3, 2026 Live Stream

Sony’s next PlayStation State of Play broadcast lands this Thursday, September 3. The main show starts at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST / 10pm JST, with a second “State of Play Japan” presentation following immediately afterwards.

There's apparently going to be a deep dive into Final Fantasy 7 Revelation which might be the main focus tomorrow.

It'd be nice to get something Gran Turismo related too, there will be other stuff. I'm looking forward to details of GT8 more than updates to GT7 at this point though. Not sure we're that close to a GT8 reveal yet though.

I went from not expecting anything GT related to to being almost confident Kaz will be there. We’ll see.
Will tune in for sure - mostly because I’m one of those FF7 sickos.

So, when are you going to tell us what you know, @Jordan ?

:D:D:D
Yeah!

Besides, I'm curious to know how did he get the info about what is coming next later this year. A simple word in the middle of a private conversation or during an interview subject to a confidentiality clause, alongside other journalists.
I imagine we won't get details on the update's content, but I was wondering if Kaz holds GT Planet in high regard to the point of sharing certain things with yours but not others.

My main hopes for this showcase are:

  • FF7 Revelation gameplay and release date
  • RE9 DLC news
  • RE Veronica gameplay and release date
  • Wreckfest 2 announced for a 2027 release on console

Anything for 2028 onwards I have very little interest in due to Sony's decision to end disk production.

Has GTP ever posted a SoP link before???

I’ll have something to keep me entertained during my online class tomorrow 🤣.

I’m not sure because that would be somewhat weird.. but we might finally get a release date for fh6 on ps5? Idk 🤷‍♂️

We do know an other update is on the way including the RS-vision gt3 EVO.. we might get more details but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

On an other note I hope we get details about another Astro Bot game. It is soon it’s 2 years anniversary…🤔

As much as I'd like to see GT8 soon, I'm pretty sure they're working hard to make GT8 a launch title for the PS6. They tried to do it for GT7 with the PS5, but the time frame was too narrow.

This is some serious hip I'm but maybe just maybe in addition to GT, FH6 news they would announce the rival of the Drive club franchise. I know, I know lot of wishing there but there's always a chance however infinitesimal

In the last SoP Japan, I think they announced the Power Pack. Without any big GT8 news or rumours, maybe we will get some "big" minor update again? Would be great.

I can imagine GT8 being revealed during the SoP and then Kaz hosting a few minute long deep dive in the Japanese version.

Maybe unpopular opinion but I don't think Spec IV is ever happening at this point. Spec III had good marketing and generated hype for the game but barely introduced anything new feature wise.

I hope GT8 is for PS6. The dream would be PS6 exclusive but that seems unlikely.

I don't see GT8 being announced until the PS6 is officially announced, in a Future of Gaming show sometime next year or 2028.

(This is mostly because Playstation Studios won't have much else to launch with the new system, due to the failure of the live service push and a few 1st party games releasing from 2025 to 2027. Really only PD, Insomniac's main Spidey team and Asobi will be on schedule to release a new game.)

Any chance that something about GT7/GT8 might be announced?

That's what common sense tells us ... but I don't 100% discard an scenario where PS6 is pushed back even later than what we can foresee and that could bring the question to the table to whether PD release GT8 for PS5 or keep enhancing GT7 with some of the features intended for GT8.

I mean, that late-2027 30th anniversary date looms big for GT purposes. So, if no PS6 on the horizon, would PD & Sony not use the big date for the next GT release? Because one thing is clear in my mind, GT8 will be cross-gen.

The Japan anniversary is so late in the year, in video game release terms, it may as well be 2028 and so tie-in with the worldwide release anniversary. I think Naughty Dog's next game is supposed to be the big late 2027 game for Playstation anyway.

I think Spec 4 is more likely and probably another DLC pack. The Sony/Playstation management have been quite clear recently that their current priority is monetizing the existing userbase as much as possible.

Indeed, I think the questionnaires served two purposes as you can deem them applicable to the current GT7 installment or the next GT game. I don't particularly have any problems with them monetizing thru GT7 (new powerpack DLCs) or a brand new GT8, as long as the ROI for us is fair!

Even considering the mid-2028 as the worldwide 30th anniversary ... I still believe PS6 might still be nowhere to see with the current RAM & components drama. So that leaves the door open for SIE / PD to decide ... do we split GT8 release from PS6 release or do we keep it together?

Regardless of when/if PS6 is announced, I think GT8 will still be a separate announcement and release now. If the price of PS6 is around the $1000/£1000 mark, it won't sell enough to worry about tying any exclusives to it and it wouldn't make sense for anything to be exclusive to it for a long time.

This feels in a way the most interesting period for Gran Turismo since I joined this website, I wonder what Kaz is cooking.

It would be great if we will get more F1 circuits like last time, the likes of Silverstone, Monaco and Zandvoort or potentially more layouts to existing ones or more original ones. Hopefully with AI and tools improving, they can improve development speed so it is less of a burden on the development team freeing them of the more tedious work. Interesting how they will try monetise it this time, it would be good to get more PS5 only features if they are not in a rush to release a next-gen GT yet but would be great if they can just even do a small showing of that soon as that is what I am most interested in seeing.

Well, not long to go now to see if Gran Turismo will make an appearance...

If I’m reading the signs right I think it will…

I assumed the timings was for the US! I shall watch this before the school run!

Interesting start… good morning to those in the US. I hope you weren’t eating your breakfast…

Hopefully something GT does show up because, even as a fan of a lot of other games and genres, this show is boooooring.
