I know this is done, stick a fork in it, but if I remember right, the original speedway was located in Japan outside the fictional Tokyo city, one thing they could do to bring back the original Grand Valley Speedway, is to say a Japanese developer was visiting California and was inspired by the layout of Grand Coastal Highway 1, went back to Japan recreated the track as a speedway.

I'm loving it. The long sweeping high speed turns, tunnels, and sense of large open space is how I remember it. The scenic vistas, clay dirt at the edges of the track and boulders on the inside of the turns give it lots of character. A+

They only removed the trees for better performance in VR.😄
You can't have trees if you want good VR performance? God help us then when people try Trial Mountain, Deep Forest, Spa, etc.
They'll all be barren wastelands now, right?

The wildlife of Grand Valley Highway looks pretty interesting:

That's a real spot in San Simeon for elephant seal watching!

The leaks are become more substancial after the inclusion of some circuits, so after the aparenlty addition of the other Nurbur layouts soon than later, maybe the next one is the famous Red Rock Valley but will see what they change in compararision with the GT2 circuit.

I would have loved to see the original version of the track return but after having raced the new one, I quite like it.

Sector 1 is great. Amazing flow and scenery. Sector 2 feels a bit clunky in a Gr.3 car but is a good challenge nevertheless. I actually quite like sector 3. The tight right after the bridge is quite awkward but I love the following chicane and the run to the finish.

The lighting is definitely a bit awkward when going into and out of the tunnels. Somewhat realistic I guess but still a bit hard to deal with in certain light conditions.

Overall, it's a positive addition. I'm still weirdly hopeful of the Speedway returning too.

I found that the track is fabulous when you switch out for either a lower power car or a higher downforce car - Gr.3 really feels like it's in the exact dead zone where it's not got enough of either - and as you say, it feels clunky as a result

I'm hoping they realise that and lean into it, it could lead to some creative races down the line. The RA272 felt like a match made in heaven for it, to be honest.

I'm loving it. The track layout bring wonderful memories from past GTs, but the scenery it's much better than the OG one.
For me, it's perfect!

BTW, imagine if they release someday the Pikes Peak... The scenery will be breathtaking!

GVS could retain its original racetrack/arena theme, meanwhile, to suit the tastes of a road circuit, it could bring back El Capitan and do a second (alternate) layout of Trial Mountain.

I've have wanted this track for damn near 25 years now:lol: I'm kinda at the point where I enjoy running on the original GT tracks more than the real tracks. I hope they eventually bring back all the rumored original tracks.

So I have done some laps now.
I have to admit I was never a fan of the original layout, I always thought it was one of the weaker original circuits.

And this hits the same mark. Not a fan, neither of the changed layout, the scenery nor the fact they made it too tight and twisty for proper racing. 3/10

It’s alright, but the turns are way too tight and narrow for my liking. Maybe as I get better at the track I’ll like it more, but having played GT4 last month it doesn’t drive remotely like Grand Valley of old. Still appreciate PD adding a new track tho. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Given the stereotypical sim racer is of a certain conservative, change-averse demographic i guess PDs strategy of 'improving' something old wasn't ever going to be without controversy.

Personally I like it a lot, but I don't have any strong emotions towards the old track like the critics do.

Watching videos of the old games I don't think losing the old scenery is a big deal, and this combination of a classic fictional track with 'real' roads/locations is an awesome design concept. But again for some people this is a very emotional thing from the sounds of it. To me this is an overall improvement, and not a negative like I consider the removal of the tree lined section of road on trial mountain to be (which I am guessing was done for performance reasons).

Subjective opinions on the scenery aside, the track layout and racing experience is what really matters in my opinion. And I really don't understand people who say it's nothing like the old, or complain about it being narrow. Looking at the comparison video below it seems as if anything the old version was narrower. And looking at the track maps below the differences are small as well.

I think the turn into the tunnel into the bridge and ensuing chicane is much more interesting than the old layout, and this is probably the only major change. It can make for some interesting racing as it's possible to go around the outside through the tunnel and get the inside line into the chicane. If you decide to fight here, which you will have to do in some cases as it's pretty much the last turn before the straight to the finish line, it is going to cost a lot of time, and people coming from the back can gain a lot. And if it's one thing we've learnt from GT7 it's that tracks with long straights and slipstream lead to the best racing (e.g. Daytona, road Atlanta, le man's daily races to name some). There are also more elevation changes, which i like. Sector 1 is a flowing dream with the view over the ocean, which contrasts strongly with the middle sector where at least in the faster cars you have to be extremely patient on the throttle as you maneuver through the corners. I'm glad I have a wheel and pedals for this as i hate that type of driving on controller, but it is something different to a lot of tracks currently in game, so I think it's a great addition.

Finally, it's worth noting that even if the old track was recreated pixel by pixel it would feel different to the old games due to new physics, and the flow will always be car dependent.
I botched a quick comparison between the GT6 layout (black borders with white inlay) and the new GT7 layout (red borders with blue inlay). There are differences, but fewer than I thought.

I was just kidding.😉

GV was always my favorite layout in GT.. I'm not sure what to say on the new version yet... feels weird at the moment for sure...
I miss the SPEEDWAY environment.
I've already run about 4 hrs on the updated track and I still cant get over some missing landmark brake markers that had been in place for 20 yrs

I really like it. Actually prefer the reverse layouts. Wish the 10 lap single player race was 700/800, rather than the Group 1s.

Don’t usually pay much attention to the surroundings during races, but keep getting distracted by the big blue ocean and that damn bird.

I don't like the new setting for GV... it's just weird and I liked the speedway feel of the old one compared to the faux road circuit concept. And the name is "Grand Valley" yet it's an ocean coast setting... it's just all weird.

Nice to have a new track, blah blah blah. Unpopular take, fine.

I'd like to see Apricot Hill or Pikes Peak next. Or the Goodwood hill.

Turned a few laps. Silvered the CE so far.

Sector 2 took me right back to the Grand Valley Speedway of old, but I see why people don't think it's the same circuit.

The way I look at it, we didn't have Grand Valley Speedway in GT7, we still don't have Grand Valley Speedway in GT7, but we do have a beautiful circuit, with some fun sections and 4 layouts total, that's somewhat similiar to Grand Valley Speedway, called Grand Valley Highway...

... and I'm fine with that.

As famous Gran Turismo player and best GT content creator Super GT said, Grand Valley Highway will pave way for Grand Valley Speedway to appear in the future. This is not Grand Valley Speedway as they called it Grand Valley Highway. We will get GVS in future update for sure. I believe in Super GT's hypothesis.

Dang, I didn't know the game had that camera until now. I was going to call it a blimp cam until it flew through the tunnel.

For me Grand Valley was a classic I’d hope would return.

So I was stoked to see it was coming, then a little dismayed by the info banding about.

Colour me surprised when I quite enjoyed it. It’s not the OG track we know and love, but I’d rather have more circuits than Vision Cars which are nothing but wet dreams of design houses.

Highway and Speedway are mostly the same layout (some corner reprofiling in sector 3), so are they really going to take the time to release the same track with a different (original) environment?

If we do get a Speedway it would likely be a new layout, and that could really send people over the edge.

I honestly think this is it, this is Grand Valley. PD must’ve got bored of doing the same track for over 20 years. Fair play for trying something different - a reimagining. It’s their baby, they can do what they want.

Here is the semi-hidden seamless drone replay that every track has, don't think I've shared one of these before!

Apologies about the terrible youtube compression!

So how do you get it to do that? Last I saw they removed any ability to change the replay style. There used to be a dynamic option in addition to the normal replays but it was removed a few months ago for no discernable reason.

Fascinating to see a side by side comparison, the layout looks virtually the same, but everything else is different - not worse, but I honestly wouldn't have known this new was GVS but for the name/signs.

I love the new setting though, though how cool would it be to have a throwback version that replicated the old scenery too?

The cynical side of me says it's mostly people living in landlocked states/countries that are offended by the new seaside location. There is nothing exciting about a sea of grass and a few trees, Midwesterners!

From what I'm seeing on video this track looks pretty exciting. It's so similar to the PCH that it's like youre racing on the actual roads which is something I've always wanted from GT. There are so many classic driving roads in the world that I wish they would include, whether it be in circuit form or point-to-point time trials. Basically any point along the PCH definitely qualifies and here they've chosen to put it into circuit form. The second sector in particular looks exactly like the real road with its tight and technical curves. Very cool.

They definitely could've called it something else, they could've focused on the PCH/California Highway 1 aspect more heavily, and I would've been just as satisfied. I'm actually impressed that they were able to mashup the GV layout and the actual PCH so well. Whatever, I have no complaints, they keep adding a steady stream of free content to try and I'm a-okay with that.
