Is the grass in GT5:P too slippery?

How's it going guys, it's just a simple poll. This is just one of the problems I have with GT5. It's about the grass. I don't know if you noticed, but I think the characteristics of the grass as you're going over it is a little too slippery. What do you think?

P.S. you don't have to post a reply, but a vote would be appreciated.

I want to reply. I don't like the grass physics of GTP.

I suck at sim racing, so I come in contact with the off track physics all the time :D

If you want to get off the grass and I let go of (off?) the clutch and revv the engine, the physics engine won't allow wheelspin.

I just don't like it.

I think the grass and gravel trap physics in GT5:P are pretty good. They punish you just enough for going off course without punishing you as much as you would be in real life (in a real gravel trap, you wouldn't be able to get out, and grass is probably MORE slippery in real life).

Its very slippy for sure. I've had some massive wipeouts on that stuff, especially with only one tyre on the grass - lethal!

Something I didn't notice for a while at first but then during an online race I had to answer the phone so I parked on the grass, then while on the phone noticed what happened to the grass as the cars went by to lap me. I liked that, no opinion on driving on ith tho except I occasionally stick a wheel on it and have trouble braking for a corner, don't drive on it if you don't like it, if it was too realistic you could get stuck in a rut.

I don't know about slippery, but the way it chops the throttle when your over grass really sucks.

Its bad enough I'm going to get a penalty 'cause someone pushed me off, then I can't even get off the damn grass.

I find it funny that most people said I don't go on the grass...but if they ever raced online, then they'd realize that using the brakes means the person behind you makes you go into the grass

=(...sand is worse though.

Yes you're right about the sand, the sand is more realistic than the grass.
:nervous: haha

The grass physics would be realistic if it rained earlier in the day. They're close, but I believe they've gone too far. It seems they don't account for the fact a car going sideways through grass would likely dig into the dirt as well and that would slow it down.

Sand would be 10x more realistic if like, the cars hit the sand, and then their tires dug in and they get stuck xD

and grass should have like...divits...

I voted "I don't drive on the grass" ... intentionally that is.

My least favorite spot is the 130R on Suzuka. That damn thin strip of grass on the outside. I caught that with one tire last night when trying to hunt someone down and off I go. Frustrating but it will make you want to stay on the track.

I don't know, it might be the settings they are using, but some of the drivers online seem to love the grass. And guardrails.

Speaking of grass, one thing I hope they get correct this time is the grass at Laguna Seca. Its probably green for a total of 10 days a year, the rest of the year its brown.

The physics are fine, the one thing I don't like however is the fact the game forces traction-control on when you're on the grass or in the gravel, even if it's off the rest of the time. THAT annoys me!

How many people here have been on a roadcourse, and gone off onto the grass? Trust me, grass is VERY slick. I have heard of some people, who have had off course excursions, saying that a car sliding sideways will accelerate once it hit grass. Not true. But you get the point.

In the real world, if you go off onto grass, you will be sliding a long ways. I haven't played a ton, but did go off in the tuned Elise, and it was very much like real life.

I agree. I think it's less slippy than GT4, maybe I'm crazy though, lol.

What I notice, is that AI cars go sliding into the grass all the time on some tracks (especially High Speed Ring) = big clouds of dust, banging off the rail & then straight back on the track with no problems. It ends up differently when it happens to me... :irked:

I don't drive on the grass but i have been pushed onit

I like the grass, it gives me a very very very great insentive not to go off the track and hit it. lol We all know what the grass can do for your 10 second lead. lol

I drove my RWD car in my back yard.. and it is really really slippery, Just little tap on gas will make rear tires spin.

I was driving an S2000. I touched the grass not an inch, then went flying into a large concrete block.
