I just bought this Anime earlier this week, and it was pretty good. It definitely wasn't what I expected at all. Anyone else see this?

'Course, it's merely coincidence that I saw the thread. It was pretty well buried by the time I got to it.

It's been a while since I've see the movie. I do remember it was very well done - except I ahd a bit of trouble discerning what was going on. It may have been that way intentionally, to get you closer to what life was like for the two boys.

I also remember the ending being somewhat "open".

Dang...I need to see this flick again. Then I can give a competent review.

It was really depressing, but it was such a personal story you couldn't help but like it.
It's funny you mention the brothers, the youngest one was a girl, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out if it was a boy or girl until near the end he finally referred to her once as his sister.
It was frustrating to watch as he tried to care for his sister, but slowly let her die out of ignorance.
I'm not sure what you meant by open, as both main characters die during the course of the film, although they sort of live on as ghosts. (or something, it was difficult to discern if it was their ghosts reliving the tragedy or just his memory during the last moments of his life.)
Either way, it was still a good movie, just very very depressing.

Like I said...I need to watch it again. It's been a while. There's a good video store near my house that has anime out the wazoo. I don't think I'd necessarily want to own GotF. :\

I agree it's not a "have to own" title. I really liked it, but it's so depressing that I doubt I'll watch it over and over.
