I wanted to find out if the old Super GT cars are of any good. Here is a BoP test of the six Group 2 cars. Will be using 5 different tracks.

Autodrome Lago Maggiore – Center: A test of pure mechanical grip

Willow Springs International Raceway: Big Willow: High speed cornering ability

Alsace – Village: How well the car handles elevation changes.

Autodrome Nazionale Monza: Straight line performance

Fuji International Speedway: Balanced track

Here is the spreadsheet.

This car has two defining traits. It is no questions asked the fastest Group 2 car in a straight line. Unfortunately that come at the cost of horrible oversteer. The car cannot go through the banked corner at Alsace without the rear washing out. I would not recommend to drive this car at any course.

After the Espon the SC430 is a dream to drive. The car is very stable at low and high speed. There is nothing really wrong with it is all I can say about it.

The Xanavi GT-R seems to have more downforce than the other older Super GT cars. It drives almost exactly like the SC430, it just corners faster.

There is not much bad to say on the handling front with this car. You just have to watch your self on the brakes with the initial turn in so the car won't over rotate.

What were real power/weight values of the 08' season?
16' season cars are pretty on spot with their BoP, but TBH increasing power on the 08's doesn't make them competitive, instead those are much worse to drive... overpowered...

The class was called GT500 because that was what those cars were limited to back then. Now adays that is just a title.

Yes great thread. Anyone thinking about the gargantuan task of a GT3 test?

Also dont say anything bad about my Lexus RCF. It's been a good car to me even though it took a little while to learn but its all I know as its all I got.

Lexus au Tom's RC F '16

This is by far the most idiot proof of the cars so far. It had a very secure rear end that lets you get away with so much more than any other car. Being able to abuse the curbs is the key to the RC F's speed.

I know, but they weren't exactly 500hp, also the so called GT300 back in the day was only 300hp, but today they've got the GT3 class basically replacing GT300's... BTW following SuperGT and DTM for quite some time (since early 90')... but I cannot remember what exact values of power and weight they were using...

And I can't wait next year when DTM and SuperGT will have 2 races together...

Tidgney already did one ages ago, won't be accurate with the recent BOP changes though:

@Windfire1010 consider doing Gr.1 and Gr.B as well when you have the time. We've got the popular classes done (Gr.3/4) but these classes deserve some love too.

Nissan Motul Autech GT-R '16

This car drives exactly like the RC F. It seems to have just slightly more front end grip than the Lexus. From what I am feeling if you are not using the GT-R in Group 2 you are doing it wrong.

I thought the 2016 cars would be a lot closer than that, but the order doesn't shock me. The 2016 Honda came across as overrated whenever I've tried to drive it recently as it was far too tricky to drive for not much reward (I could've sworn it was easier to control in an earlier version). The Lexus used to be the meta's preferred FR car, so there must have been a stealth BoP change somewhere along the line to make the Nissan clearly faster, in much the same way that the LMP1 trio was tweaked in ways that buffed Audi and later Toyota when it used to be dominated by Porsche.
