Group C?

Sure, road cars are nice, but anyway i love those race cars.

I loved those (R) cars in GT and GT2 and GT4 should only have some Daytona Prototype's and an '30 Bugatti at the Panamerica track :p

yeah i know lol

What I was wondering was whether the C-license is the lowest grade of license you take. As in, it comes before B which comes before A?

Nope,In the 80's you had several classes:

Group A until F i thought.
A and B didn't lived long, those were WAY too expensive.
Group C was a bit payable,so they choose that way.

And those classes doesn't have to meet anything to the weight, nor horsepower.
It's all the maximum liters for the engine. (Group C was i thought maximun 3L V10) *i can be wrong at all*

Dear dear!

Seems I have confused people :dunce:

I posted in this thread to ask if 'C-license' in GT3 was related to 'class C' cars. Then some people started talking abot licenses and some people carried on talking about cars!

Could someone like show me a pic of a Group A car and group B one. I was under the impression, group b cars were high powered rally cars.

Group B could also be the rally cars...

i'm not really sure, but the classes are all by the engines...

not sure if Gr.A are made (i thought the old Renault Alpine LM car was Gr.A...)

We already covered this. There was a Group A, Group B, and Group C. Group C was the most powerful and extreme of the groups, non production car based. Group B had to be production based but could be very extreme, and Group A was even more closely related to production, more along the lines of touring cars.

There was also supposed to be a Group S but it never got off the ground before Group B was canned.

This car is from Group B I think

Yes, Group B were very powerful rally cars of the 1980s. Some examples inlcude the Lancia Delta, Ford RS200. Audi Quattro and Peugeot 205T16.

Group B got too powerful for its own good and was eventually banned when Henri Toivonen was killed in a crash in his Lancia Delta, after a string of terrible accidents.

You can read more about Group B here: http://autozine.kyul.net/strange_car/strange_60.htm

To clear up the whole Group A, B and C Racing thing, here's some examples:

Example of a Group A Car:

Example of a Group C Car (A Mazda MXR-01, my favourite :) )

you also had Group A until Group G,but that were the 70's LeMans/Sportscars.
Other classes from the 1980s included: Group 6, Group 6-2 Litre, Group 5, Group 5-2 Litre, GTP, IMSA, IMSA GTX, IMSA GTO and Group 4.

That mazda up there looks much nicer than the 787B IMO. It would be nice to see a bunch of these great Le Mans cars in GT4.

Group C was the most powerful and extreme of the groups, non production car based.

If I remember correctly Group C was introduced to force manufacturers to build fuel efficient racing machines. Part of the rule was that you were allowed only 5 pit stops for 1000km (and then there were others, such as size limitation of gas tanks, etc).

Group C Fanatic
Example of a Group B Car:

That's a Delta HF Integrale, which is not a group B car. The Group B monster was the Delta S4 which pretty much had nothing in common with the Delta HF.

Do you race?

Some of those classes evolved VERY early in the '80s, such as Group 4 which turned into Group B (which didn't last long either).

Sorry just noticed that it wasnt the group b version of the delta. But hey Group B is not my speciality. I'm glad though they've included some Group B cars in GT4, the Peugeot 205T16 in particular should be fun.

Yea, I can't wait to drive the Delta S4 and the 205T16.

Group A, Group B, Group C, ..... All were from different series?? Which one is still around? and does anyone know were I can see specs of all these groups and maybe even vids of them running?

The Mazda MXR-01 wasn't really too good of a successor to the 787B. The car was made when rotaries were heavily restricted so they had to switch to a V12, but since Mazda had no such engine, it actually uses a Judd V10. Their two car effort could only muster a 4th place and a DNF. The following year Mazda dropped out of sportscar racing.

Their other effort in 1992 was the RX-792P for IMSA was also a noteable failure, only running a few races before it was scrapped.

Group N are just A8 but then slightly different... (i thought only Lancers and Impreza's...)
You see them in the Production Class at the WRC.

And the Delta S4 is an advanced version from the original Delta, before the Delta Intergrale...

Group B is rally and Group C is Endurance,Group A is Touring Cars...

i thought that was an plan from the FIA to do it that way...

All 1985-1986 ('87?) are Group B cars, heavily overpowered, and deadly against supporters and drivers.

Around 4-5 drivers are killed and around 20 supporters wanted to go to heaven...

I'm sure that the BMW E30 M3's that raced along side the Sierra RS500's in the 80's in touring cars were in a class called group B... I think that there could be more than one group B... I don't think those M3's would have fared too well in the Icy conditions of a Welsh stage in the then RAC rally!!!!

The peugeot 205T16 is basically a coffin on wheels, same with all the other group b rally cars. Its a miracle the death count was "low". Looking forward to the group C race cars. Is no one looking forward to the Fina McLaren F1?

Wish the batmobile BMWs, the 3.0 CSLs i believe, are in this game.

you can't compare rally cars to Touring cars IMO

and according to plfrench posts, both of those cars runned together in the 1987/1988 (AFAIK) European Touring Car Championship,World Touring Car Championship,

Sorry Alonso I was talking about British Touring Cars, and yes the Sierra RS500 were in Group A and the BMW's in Group B as I remember. I was trying to point out that it is possible that there several series which could be running 'groups', and then this terminolgy had been taken out of context and different sports ended up being mixed ie rallying and track racing. :)

Umm, no. The Delta S4 may have been based (obviously the design was) on the Delta, but inside, the S4 was a completely different machine. The form and name were more of an advertisement for the regular Delta.

And Group B ran from about '83 to '86.

Also, plfrench is correct, same group letters were used for more than one type of motorsport. For instance Group A Rally was introduced alongside Group B in '83. That group evolved into the current WRC machines that we see today.
