I'm new to the GT series; got GT7 for Christmas. I bought a GR1 race car and in a GR1 race today (this has happened before in a different race and car), I was on a very long 8-lap race in Europe (I believe the prize was 250 credits) and I was in first place. On lap 6, coming out of a long straight, the car suddenly slowed down to 2d gear and I couldn't shift up (car is setup as auto). As I mentioned, this happened on another race (not this one) where, again, I was in 1st place and the car suddenly slowed down to 2d gear and would not change. I had to get out of GT7. This is infuriating. This needs to be fixed.

Equipment: Sony PlayStation 5 with VR2. Using a controller to drive; controller is set up to use right button for accelerator and left for brake and turn controller like a steering wheel (last controller option).

One other issue I encountered today: I completed the first four GT championship races yesterday and came back to do the fifth today; was in 1st place. Came in 1st in the 5th race; however, instead of getting my prize money, the game told me I was in offline mode (one of our Internet connections failed during the night). So, I switched to a different connection and went back in but the game said I was on my last race. The game should have saved the results and when the network was reestablished, should have given me the credit of the race I won. Or, I should have been advised, before the race, that I was offline. Neither occurred and I had to do the race over again. This should be addressed.

Did you have a penalty?

You need to keep an eye on the fuel gauge in (most) long races. You refuel in the pit lane when it starts to get low.

Try this.

You have all provided excellent information that, now, I need to review. Either penalties or fuel could have been my issue; I'll check.

Famine, I suspect this is the issue based upon what I've read. I suspect I would have regained power after some time period. Thank you!

Thank you, TumeK5! While I don't think this was my issue, I also didn't know I could run out of fuel at my player level (actually, I didn't know I could run out of fuel, period...).

Clinton Ducks, I will do that from now on - thank you!

Keep an eye out for penalties - they do flash in red on your screen, so should be hard to miss!

Depending on the race you may find you are forced into a slow down at a specific slow zone (marked in yellow at the edges of the track) and there'll be a yellow notification beneath your penalty counting down to the slow zone.

It will decelerate you, eventually to 50mph if your penalty is enormous (but we're talking 2.5s or more), and with auto gears that'll shift you down to the most appropriate gear too.

To all of you who provided me data, my problem (verified in the same race today) was out-of-fuel. The track was St. Croix, 8 laps, 56 miles I think. When I started, I noticed two bars and as I drove laps, the bars went down. After the 5th lap, I pulled in and changed my tires and gassed up. I finished 1st in my SRT Tomahawk X VGT.

FYI, for your Monday humor, I'm a retired Army officer, was a corporate applications and IT senior manager and I'm in my 70s. I wrote my first game in 1981. I was an engineering fellow at a government contractor, the chief of architecture and systems engineering in the federal government, and a professor in the college of computer science and technology; both my doctorates are in the computer field. Normally, I play computer games on my PC (currently playing Jedi Survivor) but since my wife bought the PS5 and VR2 for Christmas, I've been playing Switchback VR (completed game at second difficulty), playing GT7, and Red Matter 2 VR.

Once again, thank you all for your excellent input!

Dr. Nicholas Shaw, PhD, a.k.a. DrRazorDoom ("Dr" because of my PhD's, "Razor" because that's what I called myself in the Need-for-Speed series many years ago, and "Doom" because I played a lot of "Doom" from Id Software after retiring (started out with Wing Commander II and Castle Wolfenstein to name a couple). :-)

Thank you, Famine, after doing some more reading of the online manual, I saw pictures of what you speak of; however, I never saw anything saying 'penalty'. :-)

With vr you only get penalty notifications when race info is enabled. I’d imagine most will have this disabled, as i have since the first week of vr, as it floats the info directly in your view..and is annoying as heck, and of course, untoggagable on the fly.

Makes going through the penalty zone feel like a roll of the dice, every time, in sport mode.

Have to admit, its surprising to be almost a full year into psvr2 with zero updates to anything.

The non penalty notification in VR can be a source of amusement. When I sometimes go completely off track or send some other driver flying I wince at the yellow penalty markers as I am about to pass them and when the engine rpm keeps rising I actually start laughing out loud in delight and surprise. So penalty zones can actually be nice when expecting the worst.

Since I use VR2, that could also have happened; however, I do know that I have run out of gas - have to look closely at dash to find fuel level.

Did you know you can adjust the amount of fuel your cars consume? You have to have the adjustable ECU installed first, and then when you’re in a race flick through the pages of your MFD until you find Fuel Map, and there you can adjust between factors of 1 to 6, 1 being most power and highest fuel consumption, and 6 being the opposite. You can squeeze a couple of extra laps out of a full tank that way, comes in handy sometimes.

It is more beneficial to manually swith gears and simply shift up early.
Comparing speed and fuel consumption, this is better in both cases comparing to adjusting the fuel map.
There might be use cases for changing the fuel map, like reducing tyrewear, or changing on the fly when following someone up close, or in corners where you simply dont want all the power.

A combination of both, including lifting and coasting is the best strategy

Yeah sure but these more ‘advanced’ (let’s say) fuel saving techniques are maybe less beneficial than the fuel map right now to someone who didn’t even know fuel consumption was a thing until a few days ago. Short shifting and other pro racing techniques would come in to play later when you’re racing online at higher levels, not racing the AI still getting through the menu books. Always best to ease into head boggling, no?

I'm been away from PS5&GT7 for a month, didn't think it would cause bugs, but I'm using 5 different accounts and I got no daily marathon ticket for almost all user accounts since Monday. I also got no reward in the weekly challenges for completing any or 5 events..!! I got rewards for the time trial though. I didn't change time or timezone on my PS5 until today. Until I read the Latest News thread I thought PD stopped the daily marathon & the weekly prizes..!!

Welcome to GT7!!

Are you running VR? You get a warning message on a regular screen when fuel is nearly out. It's obvious. Under VR your dash gauge will work if the car has one. Your MFD fuel gauge will always work. It's still not quite as obvious as on a screen.
Similarly for penalties there is no warning you're about to slow down for one. You'll get a flashing red message when you earn one but if you're not paying attention as you approach the penalty line I'm the slowdown may surprise you.

See ya soon ... in the mirror! 😁

This was answered a year and a half ago, and the person you are answering, without quoting so they wouldn't have known you were answering them, hasn't been here since.

I am addressing you as a loyal player who has literally grown old with your PlayStation brand, having experienced every single generation from the PS1 to the current two PS5 consoles we actively use at home in our living room. My daughters recently counted our family collection: we own 146 physical games, 14 original demo discs from the PS1/PS2 era, and every year, without hesitation, we pay for two annual PlayStation Plus Essential subscriptions just to race online.

Outside of virtual tracks, I dedicate my time to history. I cooperate with a local museum and, as a metal detectorist, I have achieved a lifetime discovery—an untouched grave from 3,000–4,000 BC containing Bronze Age bracelets and needles. Because I respect the rules, I do not ruin history by hastily pulling artifacts out of the ground. I immediately called archeologists to professionally excavate the site, as bronze held an incalculable value to the Celts back then, even greater than gold. Thanks to this honest approach, I now cooperate with the museum on exclusive surveys where ordinary people are never allowed.

I expected the same from your game, Gran Turismo 7. I personally attended your official event in Prague with my wife. I still keep the tickets, the commemorative wristbands from the entrance, and in a place of honor at home hangs a photograph where I am standing directly with you, Mr. Yamauchi. However, given my recent experiences with your game, I must say with sadness in my heart: Today, the layout of my display case would definitely look different, and I would never take a photo with a person who allowed such a pathetic downfall of his own game for a second time in my life.

I consider your company's behavior to be a massive deception of honest players for the following reasons:

1. Zero communication during network collapses: The fact that your PlayStation Network servers are down is something we, as paying customers, find out with a 5 to 6-hour delay, and even then from unofficial community forums, not from you. Basic human decency means letting people know immediately that you have a technical problem.

2. Degradation of expensive licensed hardware and fake demonstrations: I purchased a top-of-the-line, officially licensed Thrustmaster T-GT II wheel for a significant amount of money. How is it possible that in the official video demonstrations, which the game forces me to watch before starting licenses, the test driver's steering radius and Force Feedback work perfectly, but as soon as I jump into that exact same license, the wheel has absolutely zero Force Feedback and the steering angle stretches to a bus-like 1080° in every single corner and in every single license? Your network code ruthlessly overrides our hardware, and there is not a single mention of these hidden modifications in any menu. You sell licensed accessories that your own updates subsequently render useless.

3. A mockery of racing etiquette and a dismal penalty system: You preach about etiquette, but the online lobbies in GT7 are full of over-aggressive drivers who intentionally ram honest racers driving without assists off the track and into the barriers. I am not a saint, and I openly admit that I started retaliating in online races. But I did it out of pure, helpless frustration because your dismal system does absolutely nothing about these近 aggressors and fails to protect honest drivers! When a player wins a race, receives a "Clean Race Bonus" from the game, and your broken network code still lowers their Driver Rating in the background, it is an absolute mockery and completely demoralizing.

In my PlayStation profile, I proudly hold the emblem from my lifetime online race, which I won with the legendary 1964 Honda F1 car—which happens to be my exact year of birth. It was a moment I was incredibly proud of. I saved the replay where it is clearly visible how your system back then correctly turned the aggressors into ghosts and protected the clean driver. My daughters used to lovingly tease me that Dad bought tickets to Prague and then showed everyone how to win. Today, you are ruining this memory with a broken physics synchronization and faulty code, which completely kills the experience on the track.

Perhaps in your studios, you think that as an older driver, I am irrelevant to your business. But realize one crucial thing: Who buys your expensive PS5 consoles, games, and premium accessories? Is it the children, or is it us, the hard-working parents who actually pump the real money into your ecosystem? Mr. Yamauchi should occasionally look down into the stands during his world travels to see how many children are actually there, and how many of us, who are returning to that childhood through your game due to our age. I am no moralist, and I know I will never be a world champion again. But I speak not only for myself, but for all those 2 million monthly players who turn on Gran Turismo 7 at least for a moment. Why are you ruining their gaming experience like this?

I demand an immediate fix to the network physics synchronization, a correction of the profiles for licensed Thrustmaster wheels, and a complete overhaul of the dismal penalty system.

Sincerely,
An honest simracer from the Czech Republic (A l
oyal customer since 1995)
This isn’t Polyphony dude… should’ve just emailed Sony

your PlayStation brand
your game, Gran Turismo 7
your official event in Prague
you, Mr. Yamauchi
your game
your company's behavior
your PlayStation Network servers
And so on... and that's not us.

We're an independent media site with no involvement in the development of nor production for Gran Turismo.

That said, a few things:

The Prague event was in July 2024 and you've gone from that to... this rant about the state of the game (which has improved) in two years.

You're conflating Sony, PlayStation, and Polyphony Digital constantly. PD has nothing to do with consoles and accessories or PlayStation Network, all of which is PlayStation. PD makes the game, PlayStation sells it to you and provides all of the "support" for it including product communications and - such that it is - moderation.

"Clean Race Bonus" has nothing to do with how Driver Rating is measured. The concept of Driver Rating has been explained on this site several dozen times over the past nine years. Driver Rating is only related to your finishing position in a given race; you take points from drivers you beat, and lose it to those who beat you, and it's proportional to the difference between your Driver Ratings at the start of the race. You can get a Clean Race Bonus for finishing last, and your DR will go down because you finished last.

What on Earth is the "lifetime online race"? Also ghosting is a thing that happens more frequently at DR C, D, and E but only really happens when a car is fully sideways or stopped at higher DR levels, which tells me you were a lot lower ranked whenever this happened.

No part of this rant is to do with bugs in GT7, which is the title of the thread.
