No, you can do better than the LMP cars. Off the top of my head, I am confident you can use the Formula Gran Turismo for Like the Wind, and probably Gran Turismo All Stars. If you can use the X2010, that would be the easiest win by far, but even the Formula GT would make an easy victory of these.

What he said. Red Bull X2010 is the best, Formula Gran Turismo is second best if you want to grind. Le Mans cars would follow afterward, those from the late 80s and newer.
What i did was buy the nomad lamborghini diablo gtr from the used car dealership. It was about 750,000 which is muuuuuuch cheaper than a formula gt or le mans car. Plus it was a Japanese super gt car, so i believe you can use it for that as well. If you use that you need only get the stage 3 turbo and soft tires and then switch to higher front downforce. That will win the 'like the wind' event easily enough. Then use your brand new minolta to win the allstars race. Thats my 2 cents.

My ZR1 RM gets me even better lap times than the NOMAD Diablo GT-1, plus the ZR1 RM is cheaper and easier to acquire (premium dealership) so you may want to look into this as well. I like the NOMAD Diablo for its rarity though and it still performs well. You can trade for one.
I got the BMW V12 LM. It's been better than the Toyota Minolta at winning the tough highspeed races. Just got it a couple days ago and I'm actually going to write something up on it soon. It's surprised me. Level 25 A Spec. Gives me another car to spread the grinding wealth out on.

A-Spec. This is exactly what happened to me on Friday. Posted this in my "Starting Over Journal"
Decided to try for the Minolta again. Already had gold on Daytona in Fly Like the Wind. Needed to overcome that 13 sec gap on Indy. Went with the Viper SRT10 with the Transmission set at a top speed of 225. First run cut the gap to 12 secs. Then scored consecutive 9.5's adjusting the transmission to a top speed of 255 mph. Though I didn't get Gold or even place I did achieve level 25 and surprise, surprise received a 1000 ticket.
That Ticket turned out to be exactly what the doctor ordered a BMW V12 LM! Interesting that it's rated at 830 HP and easily coasted to a 15 second victory where the 1000 HP Viper could not. With that I took on and won Like the Wind and earned the Minolta. Now I have two cars for the Bobs to use and bring in the cash and cars!
Took on the Dream Car Race using the BMW V12, tuned it down to 700 HP hoping to make it a more competitive race. Not! Won the 10 lap Indy race lapping the field. Tuned it down to 650 and 600 for the next series of events in Dream Car and still won easily.
