GT needs better driving instruction, corner critiques, and better side-by-side ghost comparisons.

TLDR version/synopsis: I want an in-game crew to automatically criticize and rank individual corners in challenges, races, events, etc so that they can help me learn where I need to improve.

Having recently completed/golded the AMG events in Special Challenge Events, it has seemed to me that while they call it a “Driving Academy” I have never had the feeling that they were actually teaching me anything. Sure they give you a couple of generic tips in the descriptions, but they never really did anything besides say get from here to here by this time: essentially a final exam without ever having any actual teaching.

Once I beat a time I am still not sure if I’m doing some corners really well while doing others well below average and they are all just evening out. I hope that in future incarnations of GT they could actually teach how to take specific corners in such an event (going beyond those corners in the License tests) or at least give us times that we should have between corners or speeds we should be getting on entering and exiting, where the apex should be, when we should be shifting gears, etc: perhaps even a three star rating or some such thing for each individual corner. For Grand Tour Eiger I would love for the game to have told me “hey, you are losing the most time on this corner.” In real life drivers have crews on their team who help them improve, while in GT it feels like the system is always the opponent and you don’t have a crew backing you up. If this seems too much like cheating perhaps they could only do this in a practice version for each event where the times do not count, then not do it during the actual test/competition.

For many challenges, I would love to be able to play my ghost and the system’s or someone else’s ghost (which we could download from other players) side by side (on the same track or split screen) and have the option to synch them up for each corner. While it is possible to watch Youtube videos of other drivers, I guess I want a few more convenient in-game options to teach me how to improve my driving drive. And generally on you tube you will only hear "be at such and such a point by such and such a time."

And why is it that there is no option to have the system create different ghosts for us to look at: e.g. a maximum speed, perfect driving line run for a specific car; an average one for that same car; etc. Surely the B-spec Bobs are heading in this direction, but there is no way to do practice laps with a B-spec Bob (imagine if you could tune a car maximizing its performance characteristics for a perfect Bob who has the ability to drive identical laps).

The ultimate goal of GT is for us to be as fast as we can be; surely there should be more features to help us improve and reach that goal.

These are really good suggestions. I expect they would be quite complicated to achieve, but they sure would have been of much more benefit than the short clip they have at the beginning now. What really gets me is that on most license tests and on AMG academy the ghost that is preloaded isn't usually a gold time. How is that suppose to help someone achieve a gold?

How about putting driving lines from the top ranked players? Those ghosts really are annoying for me. The GT driving line isn't always the best option. Thats the only way i see this happening, a more detailed description of the driving line.

Well for specific events where there is a set gold time PD must have had someone race that time...right? Or else they generated it using some sort of B-spec Bob-like software. So they could use that gold-setting run as a base-line. All they need to do is set up checkpoints between corners instead of randomly spread out like they currently do: there must be only four checkpoints for all of the Ring (?). Anyways if you have checkpoints between each and every corner, you would be able to compare how much time you spent in that span of the track (i.e. that corner) and compare it to how much time the "gold time setter" spent in that portion. You could then have a list of every corner after a race which compared your time and their's displaying red if you went over, green if you were close, and yellow if you were well under. It would then be possible for you to see on which corners you are doing well or badly.

Over time they could also introduce as PAWEL17 says times set by top ranked online players and you could select a range you would like to compare yourself to: S rank, A Rank, B Rank, etc according to a scale set to the bell curve of the times placed.

I personally do not see this ever happening in GT5 nor would I expect it to, but I would like to see such a feature in GT6.
