I was thinking about purchasing the Red Bull X2010, but is a person able to control the steering of this car with a PS3 controller? I ask because I know that it is the fastest car in the game and I would think controlling the steering would be difficult with a controller instead of a steering wheel? Any thoughts?

Purchasing? If you are able to purchase it (level 40), you must have unlocked the Vettel Challenge already, where you can try if you can tame that car by yourself.

The steering is a little less responsive, i mean noticeable the X1 will corner a split second after you push the stick/button in a certain direction.

It's difficult. Very difficult.

I'm still waiting for my HKS Racing Controller and then I'm going to give it another shot. But with the DS3, I can hardly do a clean lap at Indy with the X2010.

I second this. It gets better with some practice, but I also have alot of trouble controlling it with the wee little left stick.

One answer is to drive it a little slower, but that may not be as much fun.

I find it easier to drive than nearly all other cars in the game. The only problem is if you do happen to make a mistake it's nearly impossible to save. Keep it on the tarmac and you'll be fine.

I find the Indy track to be no problem at all. Accelerator stuck down, 290+mph a slight push to the left and I can get round it all day long.

it's the other tracks I have trouble with. I find myself driving in short bursts. I've yet to do a clean Nordschleife lap.

I have the Microsoft Wheel for the 360 and never liked it. I've tried it on and off on all the driving games but it always ends up in the corner. I am loathed to spend money on a wheel for the PS3 if it's going to be as useless. if I could try one first I would spend the money.

Just takes some practice. I can keep it on the track ok, I only have the standard PS3 controller. Start with the Indy. My best lap is 30.809 (got it up to 500km/h with drafting). After that try some courses that don't have too many turns and go from there. It's a learning period for sure, but the car is fun as hell to drive!

It will take a lot of practice.
I can't get a clean lap with the x2010 on the 'ring even with my DFGT.
Tried it once with the DS3 and was pretty impossible.

Thanks for all the responses and information. I'm no where near Level-40 on A-Spec (19) and am at Level 31 on B-Spec. So, I've got a lot of driving to do before being able to buy the Red Bull.

It's also a free gift when you reach B-Spec level 35.

I can run the X2010 with DS3 on most tracks fairly well. The only ones I struggle with are the 'Ring and Suzuka. Running the full Indy 500, I only spun the car 8 times (which is good considering that all times spinning came from being too aggressive with lap times by using the access roads).

If you know the track/car well, you'll be fine. At the start however you'll be all over the place, as if you make a mistake, you'll be trading paint or doing some cyclones on the grass.

Driving with the controller is easy. You'll beat anyone not using an X1. However, should you enter an X1 race, you'll probably be lapped by people using wheels. Being competitive with the controller is the hard part.

I can't get a clean lap of the ring in any half decent car, i always end up having a tankslapper:scared:

Has anyone here had any luck with beating the challenge with a controller? I've gotten within 4 seconds at Monza, but that alone has taken me about 2-3 hours. It would be nice if they let you practice with the X2010 before attempting your two laps...

Any other car is easy to keep on the track, even with a DS3, just know when to brake/turn, its nowhere near as hard as with an x1.

Do the monza dream car race over and over ;). Exp, 100k+ credits every race, just have racing softs on and off you go ^^.

I do mess up a lot, but when i've got a good lap going the car decides in a straight line to go <><><><><><><><><> then spin. Someone mentioned it in the glitch thread. Worst offender round the Nurb is my RM ZR1.

I've bronzed all three. A Finnish guy on this forum has a gold at Monza, silver at Nurburgring GP/F, and a bronze at Suzuka. That's the best I've heard with the DS3.

@ OP: Don't listen to those saying it's impossible to drive the X2010. Just like anything else in the world, skill comes with practice. This car is much more sensitive than every other car in the game and over time, you'll learn how to properly manipulate the analog stick so that your car reacts accordingly. If you start off with easier tracks like Indy, Daytona, and High Speed Ring, then graduate to tougher tracks like Suzuka and Nurburgring, I think it'll be more helpful to you because you won't get frustrated with flying off the Ring 50 times in just one lap. So give the Indy 500 a go first, then try jumping into the deep end with something harder.

I actually have a thread called Shreading time on X2010 Challenge about this. But today yes i completed it with the controller :). Monza is VERY EASY to get bronze on took me 5 attempts, and if u look on youtube its the ONLY 1 thus far it appears where u can get gold with a DS3 controller on. Ive only done bronze on all events. Nurburgring is HARD, but doable, took me about 30/40 attempts to be honest. You have to be on the limit though. Suzuka is the toughie though. I took about 400/500 attempts and eventually smashed the bronze in my only passing lap time being 1 and a half seconds faster than the desired bronze time. But its by far the hardest and on a rating its nearly impossible.

Difficulty ratings: (for a controller)
Monza: 6/10 EASY for X2010 challenge
Nurburgring 8/10 HARD
Suzuka:11/10 INSANE - Almost physically impossible to do with a controller, almost....

thats a shame seen as thats where you need to be good at driving it :P

You have to practice, and slow down for a lot of corners.. ESPECIALLY Chicanes. If you press full right with ds3 then quickly go back left, its about a 1.5 second delay before it actually happens. That much delay between steering in an X1 can cripple your lap times.

Its hella fun to drive though, even if you can't keep up with the guys with a wheel.

That's not making me feel very good. :/
I just figured out by watching the example that lever letting off the gas while breaking is apparently allows the car to corner faster. I started trying it, but now I can't keep the car on the track. I wish the bronze times were easier. I don't want it to be a given, but it would be nice if you didn't have to be amazing to beat it.

Yes you can drive the X1 with a controller but it's really difficult. I just bronzed all three using a DS3. Monza was the easiest; Nurburgring was the second hardest and Suzuka was incredibly hard. If you keep at it then you'll eventually get it i guess. Also i feel its easier to use L2 and R2 to control the brake and throttle

Your timing of the clutch and brake, but more importantly its the speed you carry through the corners, as with this challenge its not about being safe, its about heart in mouth and going for it in literally every corner. A few tips though, Suzukas first sector.. Realistically if you want to do it, is anything in the 29secs bracket.. and you have to achieve that twice and you have no idea how hard that is.. think i managed it 5 times in 500 attempts. Basically to do it, you need to be in 3rd or 4th the whole first section of weavy corners which is fine, and pick the right racing line in the long left hander, taking it into the sharp right, a hint of lift but not much, nail the brakes into the dipping apex, and accelerate as hard as you can out of the apex using the whole of the road, and YOU MAY (big if) hit a sub 30, Thats the only way i could think of cutting alot of time at suzuka tbh. the others really arent that hard once you've got the hang of it, but suzuka is horrible.
