Replays use the the same LOD that in-game photomode does which is still horrid for cars like the WRX and Emil Frey Prototype .
How do you appreciate graphics from old games ?

Because they are aesthetically pleasing to my eye? Say if I showed you a Picasso painting and there was a smudge on the corner, or heck even a crooked square, would it bug you? Obviously not since it fits in with the painting. But if we saw a Michelangelo painting with a smudged poorly defined square on the corner, it would immediately bug you.

That being said the cars in question look ugly to the eyes. Unless you think honeycomb wheel arches and smudged logos that wouldn't fit in a ps1 game are nice.

Your comparaison doesn't make any sense
One sentence Video games
Maybe in the future it can erase these kind of default, but right now even with a die hard Master pc, you can't run it in real time

Games like drive club are graphically gorgeous . GT sport is too except for the inconsistant use of grass / models / shadow flickering . Why some tracks gave lush grass and others just have a flat green texture is beyond me. You can't say it's hardware when Interlagos has a huge infield with dense grass . The shadow flickering is also annoying . That being said Its still a gorgeous game . GT 5/6 are ugly due to the pixilated / jagged shadows and standard cars. Oh and grand valley had puke grass textures that PD never bothered fixing .

Driveclub has artefacts too
Grass is an easy task, they can duplicate at their convenance but they can't
And you think jaggered shadows are handmade and not due to limitation hardware
Pd must be lame and others studio too
One word, compromise

Sigh . I'm not gonna bother . There's no inconsistencies between track quality in drive club . Compromise is tossed out when a track like interlagos Has a HUGE infeild with grass and nice tarmac textures but Suzuka only has grass along the borders and has awfull tarmac textures .Its called inconsistency . Shadows flicker in replays.

Thankfully it's more constancy for a 30fps game
I dont call it inconsistency if they keep the average framerate
Maybe you prefer better graphic with horrible framerate, glad to you

Well yeah, because you're choosing to only focus on the consistency of the FPS, when that wasn't the point it seems. Graphical inconsistencies=/=FPS inconsistencies.

Yeah, other people have different priorities, What a shocker.

As a side note, I'm glad they decided to make the compromises to make the game with a more stable FPS, even if it was at the expense of some of the features we used to have.

30fps in a arcade racing like DriveClub (or Forza Horizon) is perfectly fine, and is more than enough to have great fun and drive effectively.

maybe because the real life tracks doesn't have all the grass? look at some real Suzuka pics, the grass is perfectly even and cut very low, at the point that it almost look painted asphalt in some part of the circuit: it's a japanese track, you know the Japanese's obsession with precision and details... brasilians, instead, well, they are notorious for other things.

Also, never saw shadows flickering, will have to look better, maybe... you on PS4 Pro or vanilla?

Stable framerate is the result of compromise display object, you can't have everything with an old gen API
I mean if you want to keep the balance of a good framerate, you choose what is important to allocate ressources on or not
There are another option, showcasing all element with mediocre setting
PD choose option A, each target has his pro and con

I m not talking 30fps about gameplay, just pointed it that with 30fps, there are room left for ressources to have better graphics

On vanilla, i see flickered shadows on replay sometimes on background, and on the cars

you wrote "horrible" frame rate, it's not, it's fair

You'll see, we won't get everything not even on the next gen, they will focus on the useless 4K (and 8K later on the same gen) and we will have the same cosmetic and quality as today (slightly better, hopefully), but in 4K. Most games will still run in 30 fps. Sad but true.

That was not for Driveclub when i wrote that
It s for GTS about framerate
DriveClub with 30fps, it s not a big deal ( less effort )

Agree with you
But at some point, they will stick if the resolution stop increasing, but we have to wait several generations :boggled:

I get what you're saying, and while they're related, the discussion was about the inconsistencies inbetween various models. It's too easy to just say "oh a compromise" but it just seems a bit sporadic for that to be so, to me.

Sorry i didn't read all the conversation, for this case, the difference of LOD cars, it could possibly be a different way of modelisation ( different 3d artists, using different trick ), bugs or old model porting from previous GT can't applying very well with the new engine ( even it s saying it's starting from scratch ) but i don't know if this problem only come from old cars

GT1's HiFi mode mainly consisted of a faster FPS at the cost of polygonal detail as far as I recall due to processing power. The best equivalent to that nowadays (without the cost I hope) is the PS4 Pro. Other than that, you're probably getting the best you can get for the current tech.
In GT1 HiFi mode was done by only allowing one car (yours) on the track and you could only do the SS tracks which had walls cutting the environment details needed to be rendered. I am not positive but the may have also rendered it at a lower resolution, like half of what the game ran at but not 100% on that part.
I remember running that for the first time and thinking how awesome and realistic it looked then....lol

not all of them, Assetto Corsa's cars are great in-game also, and all cars look great, not only the player's car. I will post some pics from my in-game collection asap, but some details are seriously bad on GT-Sport, and it shouldn't be the case, at least on a PS4 Pro
GT Sport at its worst still looks much better than Assetto Corsa at its best.

I don't know if this has been discussed already, and I apologize if it was, but couldn't find any thread on this regard: I noticed that the in-game car models are graphically downgraded from what you see in garage, many details are far less refined, and the polygons count is considerably lower (wheel arches are not round, intake holes are rough, car's bodywork is less precise, and so on) ; not all cars suffer this downgrade though, however most of them look slightly worse and some cars are worst than other (the worst offender is the street version of the Toyota FT1, looks seriously like a PS2 era model). This can be easily noticed if you pause the game while driving: in pause, the cars immediately gain back all their details and polygons and looks beautiful. Same happens with opponent's cars.

I know LOD management is in effect in most racing games (Forza 7 and PC2 rely heavily in it, but Assetto Corsa doesn't) but the thing annoys me a lot. Since I never heard anyone complaining about this problem, I am starting to guess that either it's only me noticing it, or my PS4 has some issue. I am on PS4 Pro and I play on a 1080 tv (supersampling and Pro enhancment both active), and I did't seem to notice it when I used to play GTS on the vanilla PS4; do you know if this downgrade is actually supposed to happen? Or maybe it's some conflict with the newly added supersampling mode on Pro? Is there a way to avoid it?

Thanks for your help!
Just a thought, have you tried to select "prioritize quality" in video settings?

I can confirm the shadows have gotten worse over the updates and they are now very similar to the GT5 & GT6 shadows, flickering and juddering with big steps in replays (PS4 slim)

Stands out so much and looks awful
Some tracks/times are ok and others Horrendous.

The Pro's performance mode does fix some issues, first and foremost framerate drops, and stuttering that occurs quite frequently on certain tracks in Sport Mode. I doubt there's headroom for solid 60fps with higher detailed car models during racing, where they are not needed anyway.

On a different note: Best looking racing game, seriously? Have you ever seen iRacing in full glory on a good rig? PC version of pC2 also easily beats GTS graphically. Even AC properly re-shaded gives GTS a hard run.

None of the games you mentioned have better overall detail in a realistic sense in many areas. None of these games easily beats GTS lol.

Shadows seem to have improved a lot in the last update . The only track that ever had any big issues was Lake M.
