Have you ever started racing around one of the Polyphony made classic tracks in a reverse configuration and wondered "Why is this the reversed one ... it's better than the default forward version!?" It feels a bit wrong running the reversed configuration after so many forward runs...but some start to feel so much better "backwards". For me High Speed Ring feels WAY better reversed than forward. I'm thinking I like Autumn Ring more reversed too.
I don't think I'll ever like the reversed Trial Mountain as much as the forward, and Grand Valley while okay backwards ... still doesn't feel right to me. Eiger doing the uphill hairpin climb seems off too. Most others I haven't put too many laps on the reverse to say either way.
Any you guys think are better in reverse?

reverse Trail Mountain is descent. I've been used to that one in both forward and reverse since Gran Turismo 2 so that could just be me.

I gave it a thought or two in GT4, which had more original tracks. It may be just me, but in general I find the tracks to be better in normal direction. The only example I can come up with that's better in reverse would be High-Speed Ring, don't get me wrong on this one, it just feels too much like an oval in forward direction (banked left-handers make out half the corners). Most of the other in reverse just feel.. wrong to me.

This isn't a PD track but I love driving Nurburgring in reverse. You get so used to the forward track that driving it in reverse is a whole new adventure. 👍

Reverse Grand Valley Speadway is of all the reverse tracks the best. The superfast right left chicane before the final hairpin (corner 1 on normal) is fantastic.

Madrid full course on reverse is my favorite. Makes it feel like a proper, challenging street circuit. 👍

Reverse Eiger Short track. Get a high powered street car, gear it for pure acceleration like a hillclimb racer, and bomb it downhill through the tunnel, before nailing the brakes into the uphill hairpin turns. Fantastic.

Madrid Reverse is a great challenge, especially if you're racing with real people online. The reason being is turns 3 & 4, aka THE CHICANE! Getting a full grid of 16 cars through there safely straight off the grid is a test only the cleanest of the clean would pass. :D

I don't like most of the original tracks in GT5 much, with the exception of Eiger Nordwand. What I'd really love to see is reverse options for all the real world tracks. I've driven some of them in reverse & they're great. I remember racing online in GT5 Prologue at Fuji F, then we all decided to race the track in reverse, it was a lot of fun!

Kind of surprised none of the Cape Ring tracks have a reverse option. They are PD made original circuits and through most of the configurations you run every bit of the track forward or reverse. One of the layouts I thought was pretty decent.

That is one of the real ones I would love to have a real option for reverse. Just to throw everyone off :) Reverse is pretty scary in parts after getting used to the normal direction.

I was racing Grand Valley on the Stars and Stripes seasonal before I made the thread. That was my favorite part of the track in reverse. I think with a bit of time on that track I could really like it.

Madrid full course on reverse is my favorite. Makes it feel like a proper, challenging street circuit. 👍

Amazed to see Madrid get a few votes ... I didn't think people were that fond of the track in general. Looks like I will have to try that one out. I really do like the track running forward already.

The only one that I really prefer in reverse is High Speed Ring, but then I don't like that track too much anyway.

Some of them like Grand Valley are all right backwards but I don't really have a preference there.

I'd say Trial Mountain and SSR5 are about the worst I can think of right now backwards, absolutely ruins any flow they have and destroys anything resembling a decent overtaking area.

EDIT: ^^ I've always assumed they didn't include reverse layouts for Cape Ring since every other layout runs in the opposite direction already.

I will say I hate Autumn Mini in reverse, but love Autumn ring forward, reverse and mini in forward

Madrid full course on reverse is my favorite. Makes it feel like a proper, challenging street circuit. 👍

I was never taken by the standard Madrid Full but the first time I played it in reverse I thought it flowed so much better and it feels a completely different track, not just a reverse version.

Technically Cape Ring Periphery is reverse Cape Ring but without the inside section (not sure about the direction of the other layouts), but you're right, a reverse version would be great.

I like your new avatar, F.

Hi speed ring is better in reverse for me. Deep Forest - 50/50...

Agreeing with a few people, Circuito de Madrid feels more natural in "Reverse" configuration. I always think the track flows better, particularly the second sector.

So what we're able to conclude so far is, none of the tracks are really terrible in reverse, but High Speed Ring and Madrid were almost made for the reverse version (PD, Y U make weather change on HSR normal but not reverse?)

No one said anything about Tokyo!

It is a tough track going forward.. I think it's a little easier reverse because some of the high speed flick turns are no longer before downhill semi straights!

Like anything else tho it just takes practice.

Grand Valley East Reverse and Madrid are two of my favorite tracks in the game. I think the majority of the reverse tracks are better than forward. (HSR being the exception)

I get confused over which way is reversed or not.

I used to think DFR (Deep Forest Raceway) started in the clockwise direction - through the tight right then up the hill...

Nurby reversed was fun in Gran Prix Legends... but the steeper jumps and bumps made for a much more dangerous layout. Ex-Muhle was like a Corkscrew with a Liebfraumilch vibe.

Monza reversed... Parabolica backwards is oh so tough... huge braking are into a funnelling tightening corner... After you run Aznom (Monza backwards...) running it the proper way is very easy indeed.

In fact - Do you think running a track backwards improves your lap speed on the normal layout? Do you understand the track more after going backwards a few times? Does it break you out of habits (Early Braking, not using the full width of the track, perhaps?

I haven't found that running a course in reverse has any effect on my ability to run it forward, or vice versa. At most, it gives me a little bit of information on cornering speed for a relatively isolated corner, but most of the time the entrance and exit are so different that it's meaningless.

About the only value is that I start out knowing where the course is going when I run a course in the opposite direction, but that really only gets me to a very base level of performance, it doesn't help me run it fast.

You really like HSR better forward? THAT is the one that is the exception!? ;) That's the best one!

I like Reverse London much more than Forward London. The timing and layout seems more natural to me, particularly in the sharp corners. I always hated the first 90-right in the normal direction but love shooting through the initial roundabout in reverse direction.

I find Trial Mountain and Deep Forest better in Reverse than forwards :)

💡 Dude, imagine Spa in reverse, especially at the Eau Rouge section (2nd corner in normal configuration) going downhill...

Eiger Nordwand K Trail/Reverse is actually quite fun, I've noticed - I certainly think the views are better (especially since the huge downhill section is replaced with a huge uphill section so that you actually notice the scenery instead of screaming)

^This

And for available reverse track in GT5, Autumn ring reverse is in my top list
