You gotta turn them on from the PS Menu first.

^^what he said....I use a dualshock controller on my ps1 for those games. But, if you play ridge racer...it does not recognize the stick at all. Personally, I would never play ps1 and 2 games on the ps3. my 80gb is now 4 yrs old or something and would not want to put more wear and tear on it playing game with which I have other options for. I also own a ps1 and ps2.

Little off topic but not. Something cool they could do after gt6 comes out, is have a collectors edition bundle pack with all six games. Really though, they could do it now with gt5. It would be cool if they had the prologues with them too. Idk...just a thought

Would a g27 work with gt1 and 2?

No.

Well, it won't turn the analog sticks on for games that came out before the Dual Shock did. Anything before 1997 won't support the analog sticks because the game wasn't designed to support them.

Oh darn, you mean the menu from the PS button on the controller or in the settings tab? Sorry, never quite knew that it could be turned on.
Push the PS Menu button while in game. The option is under "Controller Settings" or something like that. Switch it from Digital to Analog and the sticks will turn on. The just exit the PS Menu and the analog sticks should work just as they did on the PS1.

Well... after I made my previous post here, I've been playing GT2. So fun! :D Thanks for the info guys. 👍

In game like God of War where you basically press buttons and therefore has no concerns for things like driving physics or force feedback quality, playing an early iteration of the game gives you just as much enjoyment and the only drawback is usually the graphics.

But with games like Gran Turismo, it's nothing more than nostalgia. Sure there are things in GT1 or GT2 that isn't replicated in GT5 but personally I can't even stand playing GT3 and GT4 because of the lacklustre physics and FFB, so no matter how brilliant the gameplay might've been (and I wouldn't know because at the time I was too busy playing Grand Prix Legend or GP3/GP4), to take a huge step back in term of driving realism is a bit too counter-evolution.

And to ensure that my opinion is indeed troll-free: To those who can overlook such thing, more power to you.

GT5 is my first Grand Turismo, and this just reminded me that my PS3 can play games from One. (I never had a Playstation before either.)

I think I am going to hunt down GT2 just to try out this whole playing PS1 disc thing.

GT1, GT2 and PS3 is not GT5. Thread moved.

And to answer the theoretical question, no, I wouldn't buy them as I still have the discs.

They could make a GT Legacy game, with the tracks and events of gt1 and gt2 but use current assets. Pretty much what gtpsp should have been.

It would take a lot of time and resources to convert the tracks to GT5 level, but the events could be done through seasonal updates or DLC add-ons. I would consider putting the game back in the PS3 if they did that.
