Hi knowledgable ones.

My GT2 wheel sounds like a belt is slipping on start up.

Hard to describe really. Like a whir or a pulsing type of sound.

After around 30 seconds all is quiet. Wheel works flawlessly etc.

Always done this to be honest. Just wondering if anyone else has this?

Thank you.

Mine gets it to. I think it is the fan on startup. Sounds like a chipmunk on spin cycle.
Try turning the fan off while you can still here it.
Push and hold the Bottom 2 buttons on the right spindle from wheel center out to rim. This will turn the fan off and tell you your firmware version.

Thanks for your reply. Don't think it's the fan. I know that noise.

Thanks anyway though. Like I say to wheel performs good.

I am not sure if its the same sound I hear. On start up during calibrating it sounds almost pulsing sound, kind of clicking... Is that what you are describing?

Well the fan makes a quiet but continual whirrrr.

The noise I am referring too, I would liken to a fan belt when cold. Not as high pitched obviously.

For around 30 seconds a pulsing drone. Loud then quiet, loud then quiet until it fades away.
If I turn off my wheel and restart after it's warmed up it starts quiet.
Rather like a sqraky fan belt on a car.

Hard to explain I suppose.

Odd.
Does it do this after calibration while the wheel sits still? I wouldnt think it would be belt related if this is the case.

Do you have the wheels abs setting turned off. Might be the in rim motors.

Just curious. Does it also happened without being hooked up to your system, only powered up as well?

Kind of just taking stabs in the dark at the easily overlooked stuff here i know.

I'm experiencing the same with my GT2 wheel, it's always done this and doesn't seem to affect the performance of the wheel itself.

I love you.
How long have you used your wheel and do you give it a good workout?

Treat mine with kid gloves TBH.

I really want to purchase F1 for the Xbox. Last years version ran better than the PS3.

I only run 100% races but I find my G27 paddle shifts better.
Don't really want to run my GT2 continuously for 1 1/2 hours. Sad really for such an expensive product.

Glad you know what I mean mate.

I work an 8 hour desk shift overnight on thursdays and usually bring my wheel with me. Runs for probably 5 1/2 hours of that 8. I ran the suzuka 1000 in pretty much one go with a buddy with only an hour break about halfway in a competitive car. My wheel is running great and hasnt given me any issues aside from off centering belt trying to recover from a mega spin.

Dont be scared ;) drive it like you stole it.

Easy there big fella :sly:

I've had my GT2 for about 2 months now, it's also treated with kid gloves. Mounted on my Playseat and hasn't been off of it since install.

It gets used 4 or 5 times a week with sessions of 1 to 4 hours in GT5 and F1 2010. It gets much warmer than my old DFGT but doesn't seem to cause any grief because of it.

I've only used the paddle shifters on the GT2, not the DFGT so can't compare. Happy with the set on the GT2.

I've used it on the PS3 and the XBox, works well for both.

When I start it, it does it's calibration and then goes to a position slightly off center turned a hair to the left. When I put it in PC mode, it immediately goes to TDC and it seems to retain that as centered. This is in addition to the belt whirring noise. Happen to you?

Sounds exactly like mine.
There is an option to manually set TDC.
I did set it once after the wheel was around 5 degrees off centre.
Never had to do it again, maybe just the belt bedding in from new.

Never heard of anyone else mention the whir. Wheel works faultless though.

Good racing.

I'll check on manually setting TDC, thanks for that.

The belt whirring (or whatever sound it is) is the noise you were describing on start up :)

Good racing to you too!

Dopey me, it is indeed the fan.

I turned off the fan and it's quiet as a mouse.

What strikes me as odd though is if the fan is hitting something then surely it would happen all the time.

After around a minute it goes quiet.

I am tempted to have a look inside.
When Fanatec last had my wheel they never replaced the awkward screw behind the wheel.
Should make it simple to pop off the cover.

Don't want to screw up my warranty though.

Told ya so ;) hehe

Glad you got it sorted. I would contact Fanatec about the missing screw. If it ever has to go back and they notice the screw gone they may think it was you.

That said. Im sure if you contacted them you would be ok on opening it up. If i remember right they have allowed it before.
Good luck.

All sorted, customer support has, well er.....supported me lol.
