GT2 vs GT4 - What do you think?

It seems, with its 600 cars and more tracks, and also having the daihatsu midget again, GT4 is to GT3 as GT2 was to the original GT. This is in many ways a good thing. I played GT2 for ages until GT3 blew its graphics out the window! Do you think the following will once again apply:

Horse power limits :(
The Escudo - In GT3 it went from best car to almost worst car.
Event Classification - Beginner, Amateur and Pro League, or just Special Events and GT league?

Manufacturer Tournaments - in GT2 you picked 'racing mod' or 'road style' and the game picked a random course for you. In GT3 there are set courses, but there is a championship rather than a single race.

Race Modification? So many cars looked so cool in those racing colours!

HP limits - Sure, I don't see a problem with that.

Escudo - Only noobs drove it because they had no skill.

Events - Sure, why not?

Tournys - Great.

Race Modification - Yeah, I would love to see it back. Race modification does not equal body kits.

Luckily the intelligence is here on GTPlanet!

And if i was to "tune" my car, it had to be tuned to look like a race modification instead of a bunch of plastic attached and the wheels like a mirror!

But race modifications generally would result in a different look to the car...... not ricer body kits particularly but you would want wings, diffusers and hood air scoops!

Here's something to think about the rest of the evening:

500 cars X 20-30 wings,kits etc. = 10000-15000 different models
that they have to program etc.

think you forgot some 0´s

Hp limits-I'd like to see that again

[R]Escudo P.P.E.-It's a punk-ass car, bring on the [R]Toyota Tacoma P.P.E., that truck kicked the butt off the [R]Escudo on the real Pikes Peak Race.

-Events-The rules must be a bit more stringent.

-Tourneys-The more the better.

-[R]Race mods[R]-I'd like to customize my racing stripes, and performance kits, not those ricer crap.

A GT racer has an aero kit which is a type of body kit so your right, race cars have body kits. The race mod in GT1 and GT2 replaced the body of your car with lighter materials and gave t a body kit be it wider arches, wing's extra in takes or out takes, they were all there.

Terrible idea, should the JGTC cars be limited to the KJGTC event's. All they need to do is include Bhp limits again and add more pikes peak unlimited class cars to add some competition to the Escudo. In GT3 you could go faster in a GT-One or R390 than in the Escudo.

Yes I agree but with the Escudo its only really worthy of being in the Pikes Peak rally race along with the other rally tracks. But some people like to drive the escudo with other types of cars even if they do use the wall to cheat they should still be able to do that.

So yeah GT4 really should be a GT2 scale game with better graphics and more tracks.

Polyphony001, this is not even close! GT4 most likely have the execution, glitz and glam, spit and finish, and all that good stuff. I think GT4 will leave off of what GT1 started, GT2's cars and tracks and rally, and GT3's beauty and enhanced physics. So yeah, not even close.

I agree with pretty much everything said except zoxxy's reasoning - they didn't program millions of combinations of cars into NFSU, they just used a stock render onto which pieces could be added, GT would employ a similar system. I think Wads meant collectively anyway for those parts he listed, they just come as one package, not a 20-30 variants you can choose. Then you really should go play NFSU.

Spot on!...... I didn't really mean I'd like to see variations with different types of wings etc. Just a single race mod (although they could easily offer a selection of colours!) for most cars would be great..... just like GT2! Once PD have a base car model it can't take too much to add a few flared wheel arches, wings and racing paint job

PD and KY know that we all wanted the return of used cars and racing mods...... they've already given us used cars so they may well do the same for racing bodies!......

No you got me wrong I mean only to the Escudo so then people who are not good at racing dont use the Escudo to beat the whole game in a week.
And yeah it would suck if you can only race the JGTC cars in the KJGTC events.

To zoxxy: Well ya see if they managed to have 500 ish cars race modded in GT2 i see nor prob in GT4.
To JohnBM01: What are you on about? i said GT4 is to GT3 as GT2 is to GT1. I.e. it will have the more cars, tracks and races, but with the physics as well. I don't understand how you're agreeing and disagreeing. I think having one car that rocks was a bad idea in GT2 by the way. It just threw away all the skill needed. Horsepower limits kept it at bay, but nah. Keep the escudo crap in GT4, for nutters to do wheelie tricks outside seattle in that glitch where you do a million mph. Wow a glitch. It was quite funnt for a while tho.

Here a little graphic comparision, it suffice to say that its come a long, long way....

Sometimes people take GT3's graphics for granted.... :trouble:

o_O How'd you spot that?

I'd rather see a pic of cars at the exact same point in GT2, 3 and 4. Say crossing the bridge at GVS or somewhere on Laguna Seca. Then we'd see how far we've come.

It looks rougher than that on the PSX/PS2.
You could do a screenshot for all the GT games if you used grand valley.

I would, but my stupid TV card doesn't like capturing from old PSX games.

Believe it or not, I'm going to say that the GT2 pic is NOT emulated, and here's why.

Did you know that you can play PS1 games on the PS2? Of course you do. But get this. Did you know that you can play PS1 games on the PS2 and change the graphic quality and disc-reading speed? If you didn't, I did. And there are some noticable elements from the games I tested with. I used Gran Turismo 2 and set the texture quality to smooth. Turns out, everything does seem to look smoother, from the cars, to the track, and things like that. On some of the 2D sprites, you'll note some little boxes around the trees. Apparentely, they've been made to appear more "3D" I guess. But no real effect. The game won't look any better, but the texturing will be smoother. So, that's why I think the pic is not emulated.
