Major League Gaming Has announced the next GT3 comp for Dallas on April 17 + 18. Registration should open this week. By all indications, the top 3 ranked players will not be in attendance to defend their respective positions. Anyone looking to test out the "professional" waters should be advised that this would be the best event to get your feet wet....

If you have any questions, just ask. I'll try to answer anything I can. And if I can't, I'll find someone who can....
 
Damn, they need to bring that comp to Jacksonville so I can whoop some wanna be asses. And win cash while im doing it.
 
lol, I should go just to watch the competition, sounds like great fun. If I was any good I would compete, but I think I'll pass.
 
Dallas, here I come... I had been waiting for this since max told me dallas was on the schedule in april.

Im not the fastest, but atleast now I will get the chance to find out how fast I really am.

btw, I still need to organize the trip... Im in louisiana, so it's a little bit of a trip, but not that bad. ;)

Boy would I like to do that.

I now know when the comp is, now I just have to find out if I can go or not... will obligations hold me back? will finances hold me back? who knows.

I just hope I can pull it together for 1 weekend and get something going.

Looks like Im going to be doing some serious practicing for a couple of weeks... maybe I will revisit all of those licenses and time trials... Oh god I hope there is not rally. :(

True :( .... there's not enough people interested on this small Island to make something like this happen.
I'd be there too if it did happen! but it's too late in the day now ... GT4 online will be the closest many UK racers will get to a real live competition/challenge.

damn, that sounds soo sweet, they should bring a comp up here sometime...i think that a GT3 exhibition drift showoff would be a damn sweet thing to throw in there too
 
by the way, I'm a friend of Hogsters, and I'll probably be showing up at Dallas (in an official capacity, not competing) along with GT4 Prologue, and possibly GT Concept Tokyo-Geneva as well. And I'm pretty sure that every one of you would love to play those games :D
 
As a long time Gran Turismo player (since the beginning) and a long time GT supporter (started going to the SCEA forums to discuss Gran Turismo back in 2001), I feel that this MLG tournament will help Gran Turismo become even bigger.

As many are aware many teams are now brewing, and have been around for a while now (including the almighty Team-iR).

When GT4 comes out, it will change virtual racing as we know it. The best racing game: ONLINE! But in the mean-time lets get the most out of Gran Turismo 3 and compete with friends, trash-talkers, and other teams. Prove that you are as good as you say, and support the movement that GT3 is taking. You could even leave with a nice wad of cash!
 
Registration is now officially open for the Dallas event. The cost has dropped to $25 (from $50) and it will be a one day event (versus two days in Philly and NYC). This may help all the hardcore gamers that have to travel and pay for a hotel. You will notice that a special rate has been arranged for MLG entrants at one of the local hotels (Hampton Inn Downtown Dallas - West End ). DON'T FORGET TO MENTION MLG WHEN RESERVING A ROOM!!!! It will save you a considerable chunk of change.

I was set to go, had my credit card out, registered at the mlg board site... Then, right when I was about to register for the comp at the official mlg site... (even had the card ready for the hotel people)

...

Then, boom! What's this, I talk to my good friend. He informs me of his presence and presto... no more kent.

I live in mandeville, louisiana.

Do you think people like me are ever going to waste the money for hotels, gas, food and drinks just to possibly win $300?

300 would barely cover the cost for me to become involved, none the less have a good time in the city.

I was really stoked about this comp, but now... I'm never gonna do it until there is a comp in a city closer to me. Maybe New Orleans. :odd:

But yeah, sorry to *****, but um, yeah, I really wanted to race at Dallas.

But with the garunteed presence of unbeatable racers, the expense of hotels, gas, food and drinks, registration and a weekend of my valuable time... no way.

Bring the mlg to us in the center of the country and I will put in my 50 bucks to register. ;)

You know, all this whinning really just shows how much I wanted to take part in the comp.

Atleast it was ruined for me before I got involved.

That's unfortunate on several levels.

First, because you don't think you have a legitimate shot at winning. I have no idea of what your skill level is, so bear with me. I do think that if you frequent any of the sites, or boards dedicated to GT3, that you are a head above the genreal population already. That being said, MLG is supposed to be hosting events of "professional" calibre. If you don't try, you don't really know.

Having been the "first loser" in both of the previous events, I understand the monetary situation you are describing. However, the low number of participants in the GT3 fields, thus far, indicates to the program organizers a lack of interest. Which, as we all know is not true. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of GT players who would gladly head off to a tournament if it were accessibe to them. But, because of the low turnouts at each of the MLG events, that has not been confirmed.

While I understand that you may feel Max is "unbeatable", I have to say this. He's not as flawless as you may think he is, when he only gets one shot at a race. Anyone with the time and determination can run a single race over and over again in OLR to get a time that he feels will win. In a head-to-head race, like the ones in the MLG events, there is no restart. You screw up one turn, and that's it. There is no second chance.

Max IS good, no question. But he's not infallible. I (as well as each of my teammates) managed to get in a win against him in Philly. In fact, I beat him twice. Just not in the same best-of-three series.

I am disappointed that you will not be there, partly for your sake, and partly for the sake of MLG and professional GT racing in general. The people like you, who are better than average at the game, but don't feel that they are among the "elite", decide not to attend, and the GT3 program suffers.

I'm not mad. I completely understand. I have flown 700+ miles only to place 2nd.... TWICE!!! But I do think that this concept of professional gaming is for real. And I will continue to compete (even if I lose EVERY time), just so someone, somewhere, with the desire of a madman (Max) can earn a living doing what we all love to do..... Play the Hell outta video (racing) games.

Makes me wish I could do it, but I just can't.

Fact is, I didn't want to rat max out, but I talked to max about this a dozen times.

He seems to be quite sure I would do well, and I am also confident of that, but with max being in dallas... I just don't have the money.

I also really feel you on many of the points you make. I wish gt could be more popular at the tournaments, and I really wish there would be better turn outs.
Oh well.

Good luck in dallas though, and if you ever wanna run some with me, head over to the weekly race series here at the gtp... I am the mod in that forum and run on a regular basis.

What the heck is all this talk about "unbeatable" racers coming out your mouth? You got no confidence in your GT skills?!? C'mon guy, you're a frequent (DIV 1) podium placer, man up! ;)

Hogster said it best. Nobody's flawless. Someone makes one little mistake, all the other person has to do is avoid doing the same and try to race clean, and you got a winner. Probably not that simple, but something like that .

I've only been here less than a month, and before joing GTP, I've never heard of this Max E guy. But in the short time that I've been here, this 'legend' has made quite a name for himself. Mad respect to him, but still, I think for us 'video' game racers, playing a LIVE competition, all of us are wild cards. We sit at home racing against ourselves, with no audience or real pressure. Racing in a competition, I'm sure some of that pressure will get to a lot of racers (myself included), and there's a huge possibility of someone crumbling underneath the spotlight. So being able to handle the pressure plays a pretty big role on how well one is going to perform. Obviously if racers have experience in this area, they're not gonna have those last minute panic attacks, and smoke all the drivers that choke on the spot.

And like all the other non-US countries, GT isn't the most popular game (in Canada) to have a competition in, so all I can do is have my fun in the WRS until they do.

GoKents, I didn't mean to upset or offend you by reprinting your post @ MLG. I don' t think that you were, and I'm glad you made a visit over there to shed more light on the subject, especially in front of the MLG coordinators.

Unfortunatley, it looks as if there will only be a handful of competitors (again). Nearly all of the guys I thought I had recruited are bowing out.

Again, I'm not mad. But it is very disheartening. I so much want this to take off, that when numbers like these keep dwindling in, I see the future growing darker and darker.

I would like to encourage anyone anywhere near any of the other events to try to participate, even if you are certain you have no chance of winning, whatsoever. I can speak from experience when I say that you will learn a lot about the people you race with. Not only about how they race, but them personally. Think of it as a GT3 players convention, with a comp on the side. The social aspect of the event, I think, makes it worth any trip.

Come to think of it, I seem to recall someone here at these boards saying that they would go if they were better at the game. I say: who cares?! If this event is anything like the last, there will be lots of time for side races, with up to 6 players at a time!!!! And unless your name is BobKart, you don't have the opportunity to do that very often.......

I know, I know. Just more solicitation from the Hogster.... But, hey. I want to see this work.

Infact, I was happy to see my post over there, very important to me that I know those people listen.

I want to stress with you though, If it wouldn't cost me so much to travel to the events, I would participate regardless of winning or lossing.

Like I said the other day, if new orleans was on the schedule, I would be all over it, but it's not, and therefore, regardless of how much I want the mlg to do well... I want my family to do well first.

50 bucks and a trip across the lake to get to n.o. is nothing, but 500+ miles and a weekend, along with all the travel expenses makes a large cost for me.

If the cost to compete was 100$ and there was a round in new orleans I would still go, but with a cost of a weekend in dallas, I just can't do it.

It's really sad too because I bet there are tons who feel the same as I do.

Oh well... that's how things work.

Anyway, I really am glad to see you noticed my post... I think that is what will keep the mlg alive.

People like you, and of course, being fluid like water when it comes to organizing the events.

Hopefully I will get in one day, but until then... :indiff: :lol:
