International Street Car Challenge
Created in cooperation by Azuremen and TankSpanker

Introduction:
The ISCC, or International Street Car Challenge, is a competition designed to test a driver’s ability to both tune and drive his/her selected car. It will be a fastest lap competition, whoever turns the best time wins. Three fields of competition have been established, and each is defined by a restriction to the power to weight ratio (pwr), and a tuning budget. See below.

The Competition Classes:
You may enter any of the following classes (and yes, you may enter into more than one of them).

Class : Street Touring B (STB)
Minimum PWR: 4.5
Budget: $70000

Class : Street Touring A (STA) *Changed*
Minimum PWR: 3.0 (was 3.5)
Budget: $100000

Class : Street Touring Special (STS)
Minimum PWR: 2.0
Budget: $130000

The STA Class is still undergoing some testing as the variety and shear amount of eligible and competitive cars for it is quite large. It may be subject to further rules modifications in the weeks to follow. Something to keep an eye open for.

Note: We will normally run the competition from Saturday to Friday. For subsequent weeks, a separate thread will be created explaining the venue, and any rule changes for that week. It will be a GT3 competition for now, until NTSC versions of GT4 are finally released.

Next, lets define the rules:

Driving Rules:
A minimum of 2 tires must remain on either the track surface or curbs. No corner cutting. No cheating. Save best lap replays incase any discrepancies arise in regards to your times so we can check analyzer times, or see the replay if you have the means of recording it.

Tuning/Settings Rules:
Sports tires are to be used, all other mods are open - provided they fit the budget. The cost of the car will be included in the budget.
ie) a $30000 car will leave $40000 for tuning in a $70000 budget.
All car makes and models are open to each class, provided they can be afforded by the set budget, and are legal within the pwr restriction.
No hybrids are to be permitted, and the vehicles must be available for purchase on the dealer screen (no prize vehicles - sorry).
Drivers aids, TCS and ASM, are both to be set to 0.
Tires and oil changes are free.

Any cars that go below the pwr limit when broken-in (even if you claim your car was above the limit when you did that lap) will be disqualified. This just makes the series easier to regulate. Any cars that exceed their allocated budget by any dollar amount will also be disqualified (obviously). We are going to use an honor system to make submitting your data easier. Don’t get caught cheating, you wouldn’t want to be the one to ruin it for everyone else.

We believe the formula we have created is relatively balanced, and should make a wide variety of cars competitive within the same class. That said, should the need arise to penalize a certain car, we will not hesitate to do so.

Submitting Times:
Please refrain from posting final lap times in the event threads, but feel free to discuss T-times and tuning options openly.
Please PM your final entry to either Azuremen or TankSpanker. Since we’re using an honor system, the only requirements will be as follows: class(es) entered, car, pwr, and laptime.
If we do feel there has been some error in your submission, we may require further information, such as a list of modifications, and T-times or analyzer times, etc. But for now we’ll keep it easy.

If you do plan on running, please either post here indicating so, or send one of us a PM. This is just so we have some hint of an idea of how this contest is being received by others, and if we should actually set this ball in motion. Keep in mind, this competition will be run in GT3 until the NTSC GT4 is released.
If there is sufficient interest, the first competition will commence on February 5th at a venue to be disclosed then in a separate thread.

Appendix A:
If anyone is interested, here are some quick formulas to help with the tuning. Its not necessary, and the math is very easy, but here it is anyways. To figure out where you may tune an unbroken-in car after performing an oil change, do the following:

final hp = mass(kg) / desired pwr
initial hp = final hp / 1.03 <--cars get a 3% power gain when broken-in
always round the hp figures down to ensure that you remain above the pwr limit

ex)
Miata LS in the STB class
final hp: 1070kg / 4.5pwr = 237.7778hp ~ 237hp rounded down
initial hp: 237hp / 1.03 = 230.0971hp ~ 230hp rounded down

so, by tuning a Miata LS to an initial hp value of 230hp (after oil change of course) you will remain above the 4.5 pwr limit after break-in. At break-in, it will be at 237hp giving a pwr of 4.515 (from mass/power)

sounds great.
what are the tracks and how long will this series last for?

The series will remain in GT3 until GT4 NTSC is released, as stated. At that point it will be conducted in GT4 indefinitely. I'm still hoping this will only be 6 or 7 weeks off.

We're not limiting this to any select amount of tracks. We're going to try and keep it different from what the WRS and ARC are currently running on. We may go with a certain theme for a few weeks - city tracks, we might do Seattle, then Tokyo, etc. Or night tracks SSR5 then SSR11, etc
But nothing past the week 1 track (to be released later) has been set in stone.

👍

Tracks are going to be any, but will be themed for a few weeks at a time, such as touge, urban, night, circuit, and so on.

If you can think of anyone that would be interested in this, talk to them. The more people that we have interested, the more input we can get, and the more people will enjoy the series.

Ideally, we would like to carry this over to GT4, where the increased number of cars and courses will allow for a variety of tuner and driver types to perform.

looks interesting, i will give it a run however WRS will have more priority over this series, but i have plenty of time on my hands so i dont see a reason why i cant do both. But if i do have a tight week for time WRS will get it. That being said i love your series and i will try hard to get decent runs in. well done 👍, please PM me when the first round is being run as i dont want to miss it :)

Count me in 👍 I have only run in the WRS for two weeks, counting this one ;) so I am not emotionally/technically tied to it to the point to which I have to say which series will take priority... I have to say I really don't have much time for neither really ;) and that's probably why my times are really far from the pro drivers (as I like to call them) and also probably why I am on the low end of my division as well. I will try to be consistent, and submit times each week for both competitions (as bad as the times might be, it's always worth it to give it at least one shot ;)).

Will there be a division system? Or a qualifying lap time? (like in WRS)

If the answers to the above questions are 'No.'
Then I am officially in... unless you don't want me, that is ;) :sly:

By the way, to TankSpanker (he knows what I am talking about... the PM)

We are, we are, we are, we are, we are the Engineers
We can, we can, we can, we can, demolish forty beers....

hehe
on a less Geer related note, glad to see you're gonna participate theWizard

no qualifying system, at least not at this early stage. We need everyone we can muster. A ranking system may come about if there is interest. We havent ruled that out. It depends how well this thing catches, particularily once GT4 makes it into our hands.

LOL! :D Now, I don't know if I can have forty of these --->
But I will sure make this my next goal :D Can't really tell what my current record is, I know I chocked down almost a whole bottle of 40 proof Vodka by myself in a 8 hour period ;) (was mixing plenty of 'Screwdrivers' with friends and partying... you know, that kinda thing :D)

Thank you for the welcome 👍

...once GT4 makes it into our hands.

Did I hear that correctly? Once? More like, If GT4 makes it into our hands... :D ;)

The Wizard.

i hope my PAL GT4 comes before or at least the same time as your NTSC GT4

Yeah, I think I'll be in. But since it's a street racing thing, should it not be on street racing tracks?

Swift, this is based around SCCA type events. its not really considered street racing unless your out on public roads racing. SCCA events are held in closed off lots, there for making it on a track.

Actually, I read the title of the series wrong, my bad :dopey:

All right, more people, more fun :)

NK4E, smack the rest of the team upside the head, I've already posted over in the team area.

Luxy, Smallz, good to see WRS faces as well. Makes us feel like we have a professional air about this or something, passing your judgement ;)

Keep it up!

He gave a very good explaination in the first post bud. What do you not get?

never mind i was lost for a second then i thought about it pwr power to weight ratio am i correct ?

Yep, you're correct Vtec513

PWR = Power/Weight Ratio

Tank and I concluded this was a far better way to limit the power of a car, as it prevents super light weights from being the key car.

And the tires in turn help keep heavy high power cars from flying.

Good to have more people. First race will be announced in the next few days ;)
