GT3 ISCC - Week 1: Laguna Seca

OK, here is my first set of STA times after about 15 laps
Not gonna divulge info on the car yet, as i think im the only one using it right now
T1-22.022
T2-41.498
T3-1'02.424

came up with a new idea that could be fun while testing out some new cars this morning

ok, as if there wasnt enough already going on in this thread, i offer to you...
TankSpanker's Challenge:
Prepare and run an Opel Speedster for the STA class. Your target laptime is 1'25.000. This is more than reachable in a well ballanced setup. You quick Div 1 buggers should have no problems.

I have completed a 1'24.858 with the following splits:
T1 - 22.542
T2 - 41'827 (pretty slow through in 4, I've sen this split 0.4s faster)
T3 - 1'02.897
however, my lap was dirty, I cut the corkscrew unintentionally
nonetheless, it should prove that a 1'25.000 is well within the clutches of a Speedster. So have at it!

I will allow tuning, setting, and T-time discussion for this challenge, but laptime discussion for this and the Class competition is still forbidden. You can simply state whether or not you have cleared this time, and what your splits were when you did.

I think that adding such an element in to this competition will be beneficial for a few reasons:
1. The name is internation street car CHALLENGE, is it not?
2. It will provide some basis for everyone to judge their speed relative to one-another should they choose to take on the challenge.
3. It will allow Azuremen and I to make more informed decisions about car penalties. It would be wrong of us to penalize a car that wins by a landslide one week simply because the entrant is naturally fast. This should indicate to us whether the car or the driver made the difference.

If there is sufficient interest in this aspect of the challenge, I may continue to cook one up weekly (and I'll be sure to release it earlier than Wednesday in the future). It would also provide something to keep the challenge running when GT4 comes out. At least until people have had sufficient time to build a garage and win enough cash to try cars out in various classes and various levels of tune in that game.

Good idea TS. I don't know if I'll be able to fit it in. But it looks like a great idea to me!

thanks
I only hope its not getting too much going on all at once
of course there's nothing saying you must be in this and all 3 divisions

anyways, just thought I'd toss it out there and see what the initial response to it is

Attempted running STA in a Supra RZ (for originality's sake), with 3.04 PWR. Best lap time after a while of tuning was 1:27-ish, but this could be improved by a few seconds. The Supra works pretty well, yet probably not as quick as an RX-7, and more expensive. ;)

I don't have split times, and I can't retrieve that now since I didn't save (on purpose). I'll try a different car for STA- perhaps an R33 GT-R. :sly:

no complete lap times please, even if you misplaced the splits

Tankspankers challenge eh, 1:25.000 in opel Speedster STA spec. i might give it a few runs, see what i can do

Finally got about 20 minutes in on this last night, RL has just been too crazy this week.

I decided to go for fun instead of fast, so I'm driving an STB-spec Miata. Watching my replay this morning, I noticed offs in a couple of places, so I still don't have a clean run to submit :scared:

I'm sitting at about 24.1 / 45.0 / 1'08.4, but the car's not broken in and I haven't done the gears properly yet. I'd say there's still a half-second left in it for me, if I have the time :)

Brought my Miata down to 21.7 / 44.4 / 1'07.4 :mischievous:

Since the Corvette isn't eligible for STB, I gave it a bit of a go in a Camaro SS, and ended up with a 1'06.7 T3 (don't quote me on that, it was definitely a 1'06, but I don't have the replay handy right now)

Ahh the corvette grandsport is eligible....The pwr ratio is 4.579 stock so then you can spend the rest on handling.

ah but you cant drifterboy, after oil change and brake in, it becomes illegal as i goes under 4.5pwr, thus you cannot use it at all!

I suppose the GS was your STB car? If it was you have to choose another car, give the Camaro SS or Z28 a burn 👍 they are quick cars :)

correct small fryz

@drifterboy77:
the math really isnt that hard
and to make it even simpler, i placed a spreadsheet in both this thread and the rules thread to find the maximum hp for your class and weight

anyways, once more

Corvette GS
stock 1496kg, 321hp (no oil change or break-in)
oil change = 2% increase in output
break-in = 3% increase in output
cummulative increase = 5%

final hp = 321 (105%) = 337hp
final pwr = 1496 / 337 = 4.439 ~ ILLEGAL

oh how i love to quote myself:
me
Any cars that go below the pwr limit when broken-in and given an oil change (even if you claim your car was above the limit when you did that lap) will be disqualified.

sorry

Well, I run a few more laps for the STS. I can say that online racing has definitely made me a better 'virtual driver'. Last week I was struggling getting high 1'00.xxx for T3, now I am so tired of seeing 1'00.0xx that it's not even funny anymore :D

I improved (this weekend's) fastest time by 0.700 seconds, with still some more room for improvement. I can lap pretty consistant laps within 0.100 seconds of each other at the finish line. I can get T3's of 1'00.0xx consistantly, and now and then break into the 0'59.8xx. It won't be but a matter of some more time, and I will be able to get down to the 59's consistantly, also.

My best clean times so far:

T1: 0'21.402
T2: 0'39.600
T3: 1'00.189

T1: 0'21.398
T2: 0'39.821
T3: 0'59.946

In the second one I nailed the 'cork-screw' pretty good, and that bought me almost half a second to make up for the difference.
I know I can get 0'59.6xx - seen it a couple of times...

Hopefully it well be a close battle with Small_Fryz :D :sly:
(And TankSpanker, if he would finally decide to get himself an RX-7 as well 👍 ;))

Even tried the Opel Speedster Challenge, but I am still in the 1'26's for the moment.
Will post my T times once I get below 1'25.000, as required. I know I can do it, I haven't broken the beast in, yet. :D

Small_Fryz
what about STA wizard?

I haven't run STA but for maybe a total of 10 laps, last weekend. I know I can improve that, as well. I know the track pretty good now, I know the car, and since my STA and STS car is the same (except for power mods, of course), I am sure I can better my previous time.

I am going to give it a try right now, will update you in a few minutes.

The Wizard.

I just finished saying to Azuremen and Small_Fryz on AIM that I'm done running laguna seca
I just came off of a particularily frustrating experience with the Speedy and dont care to look at the track anymore for this week.

My times will remain as they are, no rx7's - STS was frustrating me even more than the Opel, and my sanity has paid for it to some extent I am sure.

best of luck to the rest of you on your times
👍

STA (quick 5 or 6 lapper):

1) Not clean
T1: 0'22.021
T2: 0'41.287
T3: 1'02.296

2) Clean
T1: 0'22.436
T2: 0'41.432
T3: 1'02.280

Again, I can shave this down at least another 0.500 seconds - starting from the 0.415 seconds that I lost in T1 :indiff:

Sorry to hear we lost a competitor :(
You shouldn't give up, though... Just when I thought I couldn't get any more frustrated with the track than I was last weekend, I improved all my times by half a second in a matter of an hour :D

Looking at the leaderboard, though, I can see that I am losing precious time between Start and T1 :indiff:
I have to figure out why, before this is over with :sly:

The Wizard.

im getting tired of GT3 this week, ive racked up 800km at least, via various challenges ive undertaken. I may improve STB but the rest are gonna stay the same, lets hope i can improve wrs, but again im not sure if i can.

What's going on? :scared:
Everybody is quitting :(

I agree, I am about tired of it all too, and I haven't even started on WRS 103 yet...
Will do a few more laps tomorrow, to see if I can reach my goal times for STS and STA, plus the Opel Speedster Challenge.

Then it's onto WRS for the rest of the weekend (plus ISCC 002, whenever it gets posted).

The Wizard.

note wizard, im quiting ahead, its in your best intrest if I quit, then you can catch my times posted, not have me post better ones

Ok, finally got to check my replay :)

Miata [STB]
0'23.709
0'44.465
1'07.493

23,280 - Mazda Miata MX-5 LS
12,000 - N/A Tune Stage 2
1,550 - Sports Muffler
10,200 - Full-Racing Transmission
4,600 - Sports Brakes
7,200 - Semi-Racing Suspension
4,600 - Tripple-Plate Clutch
1,000 - Racing Flywheel
2,750 - Carbon Fibre Driveshaft

67,180 - Total

234 hp @ 4.572, still not broken in (114 miles on the clock)

This one was a really good run. There's probably another few tenths there to get in the left before T2. Almost had an off on the right after T1 — it's hard to tell visually (neither the replay or analyzer show a good angle) but from the overhead view, I can see puffs of dirt from the one set of tires and not the other, so I'm gonna call it clean. I think for next week, I might go to a double-plate clutch and add an LSD, just to see what the difference is.

Camaro SS [STB]
0'23.567
0'44.124
1'06.710

29,530 - Chevy Camaro SS
4,700 - Sports Brakes
17,000 - Full-Racing Suspension
2,700 - Double-Plate Clutch
1,050 - Racing Flywheel
3,000 - Carbonfibre Driveshaft
10,400 - Full-Racing Transmission

68,380 - Total

333 hp @ 4.684, not broken in (21.6 miles, still got that new car smell, too ;) )

This run was pretty crap. Lost a lot of time in the left before T2 and in the last corner. I didn't really spend much time with the Camaro, the Miata was just more fun. I compared the two runs in the analyzer, and the Miata wins in just about every corner, but the Camaro just has more grunt. I really hope there's a more enjoyable car that can compete with the Camaros in STB next week.

@Small_Fryz, how did you setup your Camaro?

I'm gonna submit the Miata time, cause I like that run better :D

Camaro Z28
Racing Exhaust
Chip
Racing Suspension
Racing Gearbox
Carbon Driveshaft
Racing Flywheel
Sport Brakes
Triple Clutch

67,830

not sure how much power, but its similar to yours

no, not really quitting - i have no time to run today anyways, as my spare time this evening belongs to my gf
I've been trying all week to better my times, and it isnt happening, i'm coming (at best) within 0.2 of them with clean laps
anyways, Week 2 will be posted tomorrow, and it should be a good one (hoping)

I'd like to get a few mor grippers in here (as was discussed last night by myself and Small_Fryz). If anyone knows anyone who might be interested in this competition please pass word of it along.

And reminder - times are due in approximately 18 hours from the time of this posting
Please PM the following to either myself or Azuremen (as described in the official rules thread as well):
class(es) entered, car, pwr, T-times and laptime

edit: time is up (about an hour ago)

Well, I am going to do a few more laps in STA, STS, and STA Challenge, before I decide to give up. I know the time I can reach, based on my studies on the analyzer. Whether I will reach it or not, is a different story ;)

If I see that I can not do it in at most 10 laps per Class, then I will just call it, for this race.

I am still at school, taking a break between courses... So it won't be until late tonight, probably.

Can't wait to see ISCC 002 Challenge :D

Also, since you said that you were going to suggest a 'Challenge Within The Challenge' (a.k.a. STA Opel Speedster, for this particular week) for every week... Do you think the competitors here could do the same thing? Like propose a challenge to the other ones?

actually, this is something that i was going to make mention to in next weeks challenge thread. But, since you've brought it up here I had might as well address it now.

I personally have no problem with this, though I havent spoke yet with Azuremen about it. I think it would be a great benefit to the series as the series is designed to test the creativity of th entrants and not just their speed. It might prove especially attractice to some if the wide-open class racing doesnt particularily appeal to them. I would encourage this idea. 👍
It would help add to the whole challange aspect that is the title of this competition.

this would have to be done with some consideration however - we cant have 10indivudal challenges going on at the same time as the class competition

of course, the results for individual challenge's the way you describe them wont be tabulated on the leaderboard, but something could be added to the results thread if there is sufficient running in them.

thanks for exposing the idea theWizard, i will discuss it further with Azuremen. If anyone else has something to add please dont hesitate. Discussion may be held on this topic in next week's thread also.
