Well I was inspired by Vic Johns, Driving Position thread

On Saturday I'll be ordering a new: Desk, TV :tv: Stand with perfect heights for the Logitech, my eye level sitting down will be ideal for the top of the TV so to maintain maximum comfort :D

I'll get a digital camera to show you all when I'm done...

However I'm still deciding on whether to buy the logitech or not and was wondering if you could answer a few questions?:

- Is it worth getting the current model, or is their a better one on the way?
- I'm thinking of buying 2nd Hand from Ebay: Do the wheels wear easily?, Is it better to buy new? :wheel:
- What are your experiences, will I get used to the transition between DS and Logitech Wheel?
-I had bad experience with the :jaguar: wheel is the Logitech really above the rest?
- Will I get used to it and enjoy it or use it for a week and get very frustrated  trying to sell it?

Thanks for your Time and thoughts

I'm a well known advocate of the Logitech wheel and I'm all for you getting one - especially if you approach GT3 as racing simulation rather than a video game.

I would actually recommend you try and get a GT Force rather than a Driving Force - the problems of the Driving Force are well documented here - I don't know how you'll get hold of one given that it's the old model. It might be worth trying to get a Wingman Formula Force - it's the same wheel.

You'll find it very different from driving with the DS2 and your times will probably suffer initially - but if you're serious about your racing, it's the only way to go.

As always vat_man is right

Remember that the PC version vith the red grips might be cheaper than the "official" blue, but they actually the same wheels.

Since I got a racing wheel, I've been playing racing games a LOT more. It really ads another dimension to the game, when you can feel the grip on the road.

I'm love Force Feedback Wheels too :D

That's my modified GT-Force Wheel, for Gran Turismo 3

Alexy:

The critical thing to enjoying the wheel is driving position and above all else how firmly anchored the wheel is.

I could have one or the other - my wheel firmly anchored to my coffee table, in which case it was at a terrible position for driving, or a good driving position, in which case the wheel was not secure.

It ruined the experience for me. I had to fight the thing all the time. If you can't get it firmly mounted AND in the right place, then don't bother wasting the money. You'll also need to figure out a good way to mount the pedals. Even though I put a big piece of velcro on the bottom, it still walked around on the carpet.

Yeah I had that problem with the Pedals on the :jaguar: wheel, I was just thinking maybe the solution is one of those grippy rubber DIY mats?

I don't think it's worth getting the Driving Force (the blue one with the PS2 D-pad style buttons on the wheel). Like vat_man says, I'd look for a GT Force if you can find it., or get the Formula Force GP (the red PC wheel) which is identical hardware to the GT Force. I've owned both the Driving Force and the Formula Force and the latter was much better (no braking bug or shifting bug).

I'm thinking of buying 2nd Hand from Ebay: Do the wheels wear easily?, Is it better to buy new?

I bought both of my wheels from eBay. They were refurbished and were both in great shape. I haven't noticed any problems in 3 months of hard play. I've even seen refurbished GT Force wheels every once in a while. (BTW, I got mine for less than $30 including shipping).

What are your experiences, will I get used to the transition between DS and Logitech Wheel?

It took me a couple of weeks to get used to it. A couple of days just to sort to be somewhat competent and then another couple of weeks to be "good" with it (I suck compared to a lot of people posting times here and at other sites).

Will I get used to it and enjoy it or use it for a week and get very frustrated trying to sell it?

Well, I would say this depends on your personality I personally did get frustrated for a couple of days, but now, I can't imagine playing without it. It really adds quite a bit of depth to the game. In some sense, it's more realistic (though how realistic can virtual racing ever really be). I know there were some moves I could make with the DS controller that just wouldn't be possible with a wheel (like going lock to lock so quickly).

Actually, that makes me wonder if some car manufacturer shouldn't work out some way to drive a car with a PS2 DS controller. :)

Werner, that is one killer setup!!!

This is one of the things I dislike about the Logitech wheel - the PEDALS! I understand it's difficult to get the correct swing action in a "toy" without building a huge monstrosity, but the pedals in *my* car are mounted on top and swing as such. The pedals for any of the game wheels are mounted below and pivot into the ground. That's just wrong. If there was a simple way to flip the pedal stand and switch the action of the two pedals, I'd do it. Unfortunately I believe this would require cracking it open, cutting and splicing. I'm not like you guys, I can't tear up $100 worth of equipment (:

But the wheel is great. I love the feel in it.

Actually, the bottom hinged pedal is more ergonomically correct, and it's how you'll find the pedals set up in most race cars.

If you have a carpet where you usually drive, you can glue some inverted beer caps under your pedals..

Thanks for the feedback guys  Very useful, I'll go look in Ebay for the GT Force, get some prices etc...and let you know how I get on :D

So those that have the wheel, do you ever find yourself going back to the DS2 for Series races etc..? :spin:

@ vat_man

Your Photo from the Racing Pedals is verry nice !!!

That's to inspire :D

The joys of Googe Image Search, my friend!

Now that I have one race to do, I have decided that once I am finished I am going to start a new game with the wheel and using manual trans. It is going to be a completely simulated game. I found a wheel in the bargain finder for $15 CDN. which is like $9 US. I just hope it works and is in good condition.

:) Does anyone here know if the Sparco Racing Seat is already on sale in Europe or US?
I dont seem to get anywhere in my searches for it???
I read about this seat in the FAQs of gtconcept in this Forums and i'd love to have a seat to which you can adjust the Logitech whell as with the Sparco Racing Seat !!!
thanks in advance :)

:D I think a lot of us would love a seat like that RUI, ideally it'll go into mass International production :earth: but don't hold your breath...

Maybe specialist gaming stores can order them?

Have you tried this site?
http://www.sparcousa.com/

I have seen a lot of people on the web, that uses ordinary car seats. Have you considered that? Because that sparco might be a bit expensive. I would rather get an expensive wheel instead. (But thats just my opinion anyway :) )

Here is a site (Werner Winkels?) with some nice links to all kinds of home racing stuff:

I just wish the wheel turned all the way, like the real cars, even some arcade games do. It helped me a lot in the arcades of Japan, plus I like the added sensitivity and just the way that the wheel turns back in your hands.

I also wish that the Logitec GT wheel had all of the buttons and hte d-pad like the other version.

Also, I got a rug floor, which screws me over in not only Dance Dance revolution (the pad slips & slides on the floor), but now GT3! The stupid brakes slip away from my feet as i struggle with driving with the stupid wheel from my crappy tv dinner table.

A FF wheel for the PS2 is a definite buy. I sucked way too much with the ds2. The steering has a deadzone, which i hate because i usually want to make very subtle corrections on the straights. I guess its better for the people ramped up on caffiene, or young kiddies, but i want all of the movement in my DS2 controls.

I can't stand not being able to use my brakes and throttle at the same time, so i usually have buttons for gas/brake.

Does the driving force/gt force allow split axes?

Good to see I'm not the only one hopeless with the DS2!

I'm not sure on the split axes - the game has close to the best throttle adjustability when driving, which would suggest to me it has.

When using the GT Force on the PC, the Wingman software will allow configuring the wheel with split throttle/brake axes if the relevant game will allow.

Well, if someone could jump on the gas and the brakes at the same time we should see....

The brakelights should be off, and the car wont move if its only single axis

:)

If you do a brake+gas combo, you can do a burnout. (just like with the dual shock.) So it must be split axis??
Not 100% sure..

just like with the dualshock? So...thats using the buttons for gas/brake?

Or can you use 1 stick for gas, and the other for brake?

I wa sgoing to buy the MOMO actually, but i don't play behind a desk and also i dont think any chair I could make would look good in my living.room!!! :D :D

I'll post up my thoughts 💡 when it arrives :smilewink

As a soon to be a first time :clock: user, does anyone have any experiences to share of it? Like how long did it take you to get used to it etc..?
