Did anyone else have these thoughts whilst watching the F1 Grand Prix from Monte Carlo/Cote D'Azur.
I found myself watching the race and thinking'hmm thats a good line into mirabeu' or 'I do that when I drive into turn 1'. I kept thinking this throughout the race, whether it will improve my laptimes or not I dont know (doubt it
:D ) but it makes you look at the race from a different perspective do you ever find yourself thinking this when you watch a race from Laguna seca on tv as well??
Am I the only one who does this(is sad enough)??💡

No I'm sad like that too!
But they've changed the swimming pool section a bit this year and the entry into mirabeau is easier than GT3 too.

Also, going downhill from casino, in GT3 on the right hand side you hit a solid barrier, but of course IRL it's not like that at all.

We don't get to see many races from Laguna though do we? Unless you catch the ALMS on Motors.

it was f3000 tat was yesterday...
ya cuz i think they know if they didnt put that wall there we would all juz go straight... where real life they get a penalty

Motors TV is cool, but I prefer the Nations Cup. Cracking stuff.

GT3, Monaco fastest lap: 1'06 in a 1994 F1
RL, Monaco fastest lap: 1'14 in a 2003 F1

Methinks the game is a little removed from reality, especially as the track this year is said to be 1-2s faster with the alterations... :D

Good point. It also seems that the curbs are more brutal in GT3. The good news is that it gave me a whole new perspective on the race.

For those who want car damage in GT: How'd you like to have a shunt like Jenson Button's (or H.H.Fentzen's for that matter) and totally destroy your precious F094/s?

One of the reasons why the GT3 track times are quicker could be that we have no risk of destroying the car or getting killed while trying to do a fast lap...

I tried to pull a fast lap in my F094 right after I watched the Monaco race and after a few 1:17's I eventually got a 1:15.503, which is just above the pace for this year. I have problems believing people who take 9 seconds off that time, unless they're cheating and/or slapping off walls and such. I'd have to see it first.

Moto, wouldn't it be a:
F003/b ;) :p

I can pull 100% clean 1'12s with my eyes shut. Broken into 1'09 territory ONCE, but wasn't sure it was totally clean.

http://www.racing-line.org/courseselect.php?SelectedGame=GT3&SelectedCourse=05 shows lap times for Cote d'Azur. The green tick by Jeff's time indicates he has submitted a replay, it has been reviewed and it is 100% clean (Racing-Line rules for laps - no wall contacts at all, no "offs" at all (2+ wheels off track), single player, arcade, free run only). That's a 1'08.5. The top time posted there is a 1'07.4, and the driver is a known clean guy. If you ask nicely at Racing-Line, I'm sure they'll furnish you with Jeff's replay.

Someone claimed a 1'05.xxx once, but no proof was shown... It's generally held to be impossible to get under 1'06 there. But you never can tell.

I've seen the F1 race at Monaco in real life before. It was interesting to watch them race on it, although in real life there are no barriers on that sharp turn coming down from the tunnel. It is 78 laps just like the F1 race in the game.

im usually pulling 1'18'xxx s i think ive gotten about 1'12 once but ya kno
and i think their so fast there is cuz they dont have walls around the sharp corners ... we do so we gotta watch for that where they can cut it juz a little without hitting anything or without worrying about hitting anything

can anyone actually do a clean 78 lap enduro at monaco
no hitting cars no hitting walls???

If there HAD been barriers there, Jenson would have been *****d... :D

If you pay attention closely, you'll notice that Cote d'Azur ISN'T actually Monaco. The last two corners are really, glaringly obviously different in the game.

Coulthard, not David?

But in a few weeks it will be an F003?C/R anyway.

The d is for the MP4-17D. Its the 4th version of the 2002 chassis. ;) I deferred to Raikkonen since he's leading the championship.

(MINI POLL: Who's tired of DC announcing "This year is my year" every winter?)

That, my friend, is an understatement if there ever was one.

the F1's were faster back in the day.

turn better too... lol
... maybe they are trying to slow them down like they do in nascar (tried to be an insult to all nascar fans(im terrible at making clever insults
ashamed.gif
))

also we dont have to worry about hitting our cars into the walls and making it 100000000 pieces of whatever its made of all over the pavement

Ah yeah, the cars in game are using slicks. The F1's at present are using grooved tyres...

They ARE trying to slow them down. Most rule changes in any series are geared towards safety or slowing the cars down.

NASCAR sucks because there's nothing "stock" about them (that, and you only turn left ;)). NASCAR is racing fictional 2-door sedans based on 4-door production vehicles (with outdated technology). :banghead:

Oh yeah, it also sucks because it makes those outside the US think we're only interested in going in circles with circa 1950 technology.

pfft nascar is a really great sport.....i dont see teh f1 guys with cars all around them...they are basicly hot lapping in nascar they are wheel to wheel for 500 miles somtimes 600 how long is a F1 race?100-200 miles? maby less nascar is better to watch if you know what racing is F1 just run around a track 1-10 sec apart what fun is that... in F1 i watch the pits stops to see if somone catchs on fire and ill look at it if there is a wreck ... oh and in nascar we dont have "team orders"

(comback mode: OFF)

EDIT: i never get these tags right:p

What color is the sky in your world?

(hijack thread:ON)

If you want wheel-to-wheel racing, try Aussie V8 Supercars or JGTC; they're everything NASCAR should be and more. Ralph Firman gave several guys a Suzuka Stripe in last year's championship.

NASCAR could be so much more. Now its just a four wheel version of professional wrestling. :p

DoZeRxXx, how did I do with the NASCAR insults? :D

A few quotes and stats for you, from the press:

1994 Monaco Grand Prix - Fastest Lap 1'21.076 (M.Schumacher), Pole Position 1'18.560 (M.Schumacher).

2001 Monaco Grand Prix - "Coulthard set a time of 1'17.430
seconds in his fastest lap over the 3.37-kilometre (2.094-mile) course. This was the fastest lap ever recorded in Monaco, although the course has changed over the years. The previous best was 1:18.216 set by Heinz-Harald Frentzen in 1997."

2003 Monaco Grand Prix - "Raikkonen set the fastest ever lap of Monaco with a 1:14.545"

So all the slowing down Bernie, Max and the FIA have done has done squat. The cars got 1s quicker in 7 years, then another full 3s quicker in 2 years... Yet the 1994 GT3 F1 car - F094/S and P001 - can lap Monaco ANOTHER 7s quicker than even the fastest lap ever recorded there...

Superior driving skills. :p

Its interesting to note at racing-line.org that GT3's times are closer to reality than the F1-2000 or F1-1997 games. It would be cool for someone with a TV-Tuner video card to make a side-by-side comparison between a GT3 Monaco lap vs. a reality Monaco lap. I'd like to see where the simulator is gaining the time.

Your comments about the last 2 years have probably more to do with the Michelin-Bridgestone war than anything else. Its looking like Michelin is stepping up to the challenge this year ... its about time, too. Now we need to see Goodyear (or even Avon) get into the fight.

When's the next F-1 race at Monaco? I'll do it.
