GT4 Acceleration Times vs. Real Acceleration Times

I think everyone here has forgotten the original Gran Turismo on the playstation. It produced some very accurate acceleration results with all the cars I tested and that was with a far less powerfull system. Ever since then PD seem to have gone downhill in this respect. If anyone doubts what I say, just grab your 'Gran Turismo' and see.
I do agree with everyone in saying that the acceleration differences seems to be because of slow gear shifting and excessive wheel spin off the line.

I agree with you there. It looks like PD is missing some sort of air resistance or CD (coefficient of drag) calculation or possibly both. An example of this is the RX8 in the Japan demo. You could hit 164 MPH on the back straight on the Ring. In reality you could maybe hit 150. Others who own can varify this with other cars. Is this a calulation that PD had to leave out due to lack of processing power?
Uhh, calculating aerodynamic resistance isn't exactly difficult, so I doubt it's because it can't handle the coefficient of drag ...

Ra = 0.5*Cd*A*p*V^2

Ra = Air Resistance measured in Newtons
Cd = Coefficient of Drag
A = Cross-sectional area of vehicle measured in square meters
p = Air density measured in kg/m^3
V = Velocity in m/s

So, I mean, p can be a constant if need be ... Cd and A are quite easy to figure out ... and V is already part of the game ...

Calculating acceleration would be a much greater strain on processing since the rate of acceleration would fluctuate with the torque curve, rolling resistance, and air resistance ... That's probably where the problem lies ...

With my experiance with GT4, with S2 tires the accelleration times are as good as it can be, with N2 too slow.

Topspeeds are very accurate now, much better than in GT3.
An RX8 does about 150mph, just like in real life.

Hello!

About Topspeed/ Acceleration and Gear Ratios:

I hope that you know that in different Country´s the same car can have different gear ratio´s. In Germany for example some cars get gear ratios for higher topspeeds because on the "Autobahn" we are allowed to drive as fast as we want. I don´t remember which Evo but I read in a german sportcar magazine, that the gear ratio for the german market was changed. The Japanese Car was accelerating faster, the "german" version had the higher topspeed.

And to GTR:

The Graphic of GTR is not as good as GT4. The Cars look like toys, and the wheels... :scared:

That´s my two "Euro"cents :sly:

:indiff: Speaking about the ITR in GT4 i'm a big fan of ITR and IT-GSR .. But still in the game i don't get the thrill of it can someone please someone send me some gear ratios ... If Someone has some good ratios post em' NOW !!! :dunce:

Just seeing this old thread and the 250km/h maximum speed, many cars these days are capped at 250km/h as that is the maximum speed they are allowed to be able to do in some countries in Europe. Have you never seen Top Gear? :D

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Germany is the only country to do that. BMW, VAG, and Mercedes-Benz are the companies that follow this, and it's only a gentlemen's agreement, not a true law. :)

@Sparxxx: Clicky :rolleyes:

Anyway, is it just me, or did this thread just stop, on the morning of Feb 22, when shopping malls across the u.s. were beginning to open...? :lol:

Just to put my 2 cents in. The GT4 version of the Prelude VTEC does the quarter at almost the exact same speed as its real life counter part, roughly 15.4-15.5 seconds. What I hate is the understeer they have given this car. Its like you have to stop the car, turn the wheels and then accelerate just to make it around a corner without going straight into the wall. Even with suspension tuning, it doesn't get much better. Braking and handling are nothing like the real life counterpart, and I wonder how many other cars are like this in the game.

A lot, in my opinion. But there'll be a lot of people who disagree.
