Gran Turismo 4!
Web posted on 28/2/03
We spot a small section of the latest of the greatest racers through the garage door. It has been confirmed that video footage of GT4 will be unveiled at this May's E3. Although it will again feature indestructable cars (boo!), some of those indestructable cars will be Porsches and Ferraris (yay!), so that's alright. The game is said to be online only, and every driver will be ranked by experience. This means that in Gran Turismo mode, all the other cars on the circuit will be driven by real people of a similar ability. Cars will be tradeable, there will be organised tournaments and you can ride along with other drivers, getting an in-car view of their laps. Arcade mode will be a huge list of globally ranked players with chat-rooms tacked on. The huge scope of the game is what stopped playable code being available for E3, but if it ends up being half as good as it sounds, then the wait will be worth it.

ONLINE ONLY

that is just plain sad
If it is Polyphony will lose major sales

They better make an offline part as well

It'll likely lose my family's purchase.

porsche and ferarri is quite good but online only...it cant be true

PP would lose too many sales

online only! thats the stupidist thing ive heard since the iraq-ees thinking there going to win out-right against the UK and US if we go to war..! (just had to add that bit in :))

would they realy be that stupid and make it online only.. think of the problems that would cause. there would come a point were people who are new to the game will find it impossible to play cus everyone is so experienced.. no no no!

so what if im not realy bothered about noobs to the game.. but.. but.. WHY! GAHHH! online only! why? what ever happened to the GT where you could take your time playing it. the problem with online games is the fact that you get so many IDIOTS on there.. people deliberatly disrupting games and things. like driving th e wrong way round the track! :banghead:

it will have a offline part to it. being online only will be too much of a risk

Hey you never know, it might not have been true. There are so many roumors (sp) floating around that things are getting hard to see...

I predict:

There will be zero ferarris, and no online play.

They said that they have almost used up all of the PS2's capacity and might have to wait untill PS3 comes out for online play...

Klos, what makes you think that there will be no online play?

I'd be willing to bet that there will be a off-line game to it as well. Probably much like Socom is. It has both on-line and off-line play and there is no fee to pay to use the on-line play either. I just hope that there are not any codes cheats or glitches in the on-line aspect of GT if there is one.

I just have a feeling. I'm basing it on very little, but I have a feeling that there will be no online game play.

Yeah I have SOCOM. You dont 'pay to play' like X-Box live and other online consols. Sony had the advantage over the others with the Network Adaptor just because of not having to pay an extra fee. The only bill is the phone bill which isnt too expensive. If you want a good online shooting game get Delta Force: Land Worrior. Novalogic has online capeability and you dont need to pay for their services... (for more info go to www.novalogic.com )

If it is true that PAL regions will only be able to play online with their PS2 through a Broadband connection, then many sales of GT4 will be lost because those PS2 owners that cannot/will not pay £30 per month for broadband internet will have no reason to buy the game.
If SONY make the game online only, it will be a shameful attempt to force people into online play, and it will most likely fail. Also, people will lose faith in the up-to-now trustworthy and un-microsoft-like image of SONY Computer Entertainment.
Could SONY make such an error?
I doubt it, I agree with Klostrophobic, it is more likely that it will contain NO online element rather than no offline element.

WHAT IF WE HAVE TO PAY TO DOWNLOAD CARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL NOT BUY IT THEN!!!!!!!!!!!

i wouldnt mind if it was gt3 but with better cars and totally diff tracks!! :D:lol:

I hope they dont plan on charging us to play online like Everquest.

I can see their marketing scheme developing already.$$$

Just come out with gt4 on a cd rom so i dont have to run a usb cable from my 53" sony hdtv that is downstairs to my pc upstairs.

You guys are freaking out over paying. I don't think Sony or Polyphony would be that dumb in the beginning. They need to get people hooked first and then they will start marketing it.

i don't think you will have to pay real money to download cars you would pay game credits.

hmmm Well.. i don't think PD is "that" stupid.... think about it

why would they risk loosing MAJOR sales and use more money to have servers when they can keep those sales and not use servers? there might be two versions.. one with the online, one w/o... thats IMO

Alternatively we could be running a completely uninformed debate with basically no information to base any comments on at all.

Let's wait until May.

As an opinion, I'd be extremely surprised if GT4 was on-line only. EXTREMELY surprised...

I highly doubt that they used almost all of the PS2's emotion engine's capacity. GT3 only used something like 1/4th of it's power.

I don't think it will be online only, it will at least have an offline multi player part to the arcade mode.

I meant the hard drive or whatever you call it. GT2 used the full 100% of the Playstation's graphics abaility. They also said that we may have to wait until Playstation 3 comes out for an Online version but they are still unsure. I had a link to a site with some Real info. I will post it here when I find it (should take like 10 minutes or so)...
