I used the dualshock... no, I didn't feel it in the controller... and correct me if I'm wrong, but when a real car backfires, isn't it true that you shouldn't be able to feel it anyway...?

I wouldn't be one to ask because I have never been in a car that backfired.

Since I refuse to go through all the pages. I want to ask you sinner. When you see the backfire, do you feel it on the DFP?

jesus, why would you ever feel a backfire on your steering wheel? for god's sake. BACKFIRE IS IN, GIVE IT A REST!

That's what I was going to say but I thought he was joking - Obviously not.

I dont see backfire as a huge issue anyway - more important in my mind are cars and tracks - (likewise others im sure)

So there's a Spanish town? If so, only car company I know out of Spain is Seat (pronounced SAY-OT). Other than that, I know nothing more unless there's a race manufacturer out of Spain. And about all the different stuff mentioned in this thread, it's still a useful thread. As long as it isn't about a "n00b" question that has answers in at least 2 or 3 other threads, this one's perfectly fine. And any information (new or old) is still pretty relevant.

Hmm never heard it prounced like that. I myself normally pronounce it 'See-At' (Although probably with a northern accent  so it nearly sounds like Say-At) & some I've heard pronounce it Say-At but never 'Say-ot'. Indeed this car article says its pronounced 'Say-At' http://mazda-rx8.topgear.newcarnet.co.uk/NCN_48_roadtestdetail.html

Whats funny is when replacing the fuel piping at the back of my car, I pulled up the rear seats & found a Spanish chocolate bar wrapper

haha... yeah I agree... as much as I wanted to see backfire in the game, I think there's way too much discussion about it... lets just say its in the game and leave it at that... ;)

Agree.

I think ABS adds almost an element of "cheating" to the game. Since all the cars have ABS, they're able to stop a lot quicker than their real-life counterparts. I've watched quite a few vids of real cars on various race tracks, and I've noticed they start braking a lot sooner than we do in our games. I think that's the ABS at works.. we can afford to brake late, because we can make it down to the right speed a lot sooner than a real race car can. For that reason alone, I'd like to see the option to shut it off..

Actually that's a common misconception about ABS - in practise, it doesn't allow shorter stopping distances at all (if anything they're marginally longer). It's advantage is that it allows you to brake AND steer at the same time.
In any case, it has the same effect as you describe; with ABS you can brake later, because you are able to start steering while still braking heavily, and still manage to turn-in correctly. Without ABS, if you're braking heavily (close to lock-up) and try to steer you'll plough straight on (into the gravel...). :)

All the people who struggled with the Pagani Zonda, GT40 and XJ220 in GT3 are really going to be in trouble without ABS in GT4.... :sly:

It'll also add a greater element of realism, in that you can lock the brakes if you slam them too hard. It'll force us to drive in a more conservative, real-life kind of way.

While we're on the subject of brakes, I wouldn't mind seeing realistic brake wear during races. That's another reason real race drivers brake sooner.. because they've got to keep those brakes working at peak efficiency for the entire race. In GT, what do we care? Our brakes never wear out. I'd like to see it so that if we drive the way we do now, the brakes would be completely gone halfway through an endurance.

I totally agree, and it would make a "carbon disc brake" upgrade well worth the money... :)

regarding the realistic"ity" of ABS..
i have never heard of any car that has ABS that can be turned off....
u either take it out or leave it in.....(i guess that can be counted as turning it off.. :P )

Well sure, but as a video game, ABS could be switched on and off as a driving aid for newbs...at least in cars where it doesn't come standard.

If nothing else, ABS should be disabled on the appropriate cars.

*ahem* ... 1084 / 1.2 = 903 PS and 495 / 0.9 = 550 kg.
These characteristics can be those of the Polyphony Digital Formula Gran Turismo ... in the game, power and torque are hidden :

My audi has a button to disable ABS, the instruction booklet recommends to turn it off in snow or heavy mud condition...

No, turning it off ("ABS AUS" I guess it's german ;)) can help braking because under that condition, a heap of snow or mud can be formed in front of the wheel that helps to stop the car.

It's my father's Audi, I actually own a Golf TDi, the only way to turn off ABS in my car is removing the fuse that controls abs (i didn't even try :):):))

some traction and braking control systems can even go beserk in those kind of conditions, thats one of the other reasons why you can turn them off aswell

This may be because in games, we push the car to the limits. In real life, the drivers leave a bit of room, because a mistake can be fatal at high speeds. ABS helps you go faster, as stated by a fellow member here in previous post(s) within this thread.

lol, if you fart, do you go forward?

i don't think so, would be weird if you would feel a flameburst in your steeringwheel. I've had plenty of backfire on my own car, and not once i've felt anything change in my steering wheel, the only thing you notice is a very big bang!

I think you are mixing the "ASR" and the "ABS".

In our A6, its a button with "ASR" written on it, and that is the Anti Spin Regulation. It is the ASR the instruction booklet recomends to be switched off in heavy snow/mud conditions.

Like the other guy said, you cannot turn a ABS system on a car on and off, either you have it or you don't have it.

okay, i own an Audi too. Can't really turn off ABS but rather the traction control, if i remember right, it's called ESP....what i said earlier (STD) was the Volvo... :yuck: lol

That got to be the "ESP" 👍, audi's system for both anti spinn and anti "drift". Don't know the right english word for it....

I asked about it, not if it was going to be in. Calm down, no need to get riled up over a game.

I don't want to turn this into a pantomine, but "Oh yes you can..."

The ABS disable feature was available in Audi's with early versions of the quattro drivetrain system and ABS.
Have a look here for a more detailed description; it's in agreement with Koolad's statement (and remeber this was at the time of 7 MHz 68000 processors, not multiple GHz P4s - i.e. the computing power available wasn't too great.).
