Seeing a GT4 ad at the chicane on the Mulsanne strait can’t be a bad thing.

Hopefully we will get a bunch of LMP cars. If the track has any chance of being in the game there would probably be a crew from PY poking around this year.

GT traditionally buys advertising space on the Hunaudieres straight. They've also got it plastered over one of the Pescarolo team cars.

Was there actually a playable GT or any mention of the game as many were expecting? We were hoping KY would be there to not only take in the action but also reveal Le Mans on yet another demo GT4 build... Perhaps that comes later in the race lol.

One hour down, 23 to go.

If the track is in the game it would most likely be announced during or shortly after the race. The fact that theres an ad there means nothing, all thats happened is PD or Sony has payed to put an ad there, just the same as every other company that advertises at LeMans.

KY does usually put up a show at LeMans though so expect him to show something of GT4 there, but it could just be to do with the Courage cars that he has on board. They don't look like finnishing the race, two cars are out and the other two a running with different engines that were only put in yesterday.

I hope they include the Le Mans track in GT4.They want to capture the history of cars and racing in GT4 so how can they not include this track. It's the most famous racing track in the world and it's racing history spans almost 100 years(98 years right now).
It would be so awesome to have an Endurance race in GT4 on Le Mans with those LMP cars.

Yes it would! As long as it isn't a 24h endurance race, IMHO.

I'm all for seeing a 24h enduro for online play with driver changes. A single player 24h enduro, even with a save feature would just be way too long.

I'd like a 24 hour race, I used to enjoy in Le Mans 24 Hours on the Dreamcast.

Can GT4 do daylight changes and weather changes? So far I doubt it.

Sad when a game that much older, and on a machine with less power than a PS2 could do it.

there is a Le Mans 24 game for PS2. it changed day to night as well. old game though.

"Gran Turismo 4 where advertised in last years Le Mans as well"

i was going to say the same thing. goes to show how long it has been. going to be worth the wait for sure. :)

Just about to mention the same thing, was watching my 2003 highlights DVD last night and thought the same thing.

The first chicane on the Mulsannes Straight is called the "PlayStation Chicane", since Sony signed on to put up sponsership all around it. It's had sponsership for Gran Turismo since before Gran Turismo 3 even came out on those tires in the middle of the chicane.

omg! I just figured it out! PD and KY are secretly working on the next Le Mans game! r0x0r!

Anyway, yes advertising's been there 2 years now, yes it would be great to see the track in GT4, yes we've already seen all the reasons for and against that.

redhed17: Le Mans on the Dreamcast didn't offer anything like the experience of GT in a number of ways, so don't try to compare them. I'm sure if they felt it was relevant they'd find a way to include it. As a question though, did time changing only happen on the Le Mans circuit or on all of them? And how many circuits were there all up?

More Le Mans? Cool. What made "Le Mans 24 Hours" a good game was that you had the Le Mans track all to yourself. The game came before those new chicanes, so you got the Dunlop Curve, under that familiar bridge, then all the way down the rest of the track. But from what I can recall, even Gran Turismo 3 was advertised at Le Mans a few years ago. Now that GT4 is the talk of the town, it's been on those tire walls for 2, 3 years now including this one. Again, the race is still going on, but if Melbourne House and Infogrames' approach at Le Mans mean anything and if PD and KY look into a new LM game, it would surely be a welcome addition.

And you can finish the sentence yourself. If Le Mans was downloadable to the Playstation HDD,...

The Dunlop Chicane was made in 1988. The Mulsannes Chicanes were made in 1990. And I think its rather obvious that 24 Hours of LeMans wasn't made prior to 1990...

What are u talking about, the first 24 hour race at Le Mans was held in 1906 or do you mean the current track configuration isn't older then 1990?

The first 24 Hours of LeMans was in 1923. And I was explaining to John that he must be remembering the game wrong since the chicanes he spoke of existed years before the video game came out.

THat le mans game is fun!

What I was talking about was something I remembered from Le Mans 2002. Some new chicanes were added, but as the commentary went along, Speed Channel said that with the new chicane, lap times didn't change much. Either that, or I don't know the circuit as well as I know and love the race. But going under the bridge in the LM24H game, I remember going under the Dunlop Bridge, and past it was straight road heading into esses, then all the way to Tetre Rouge. In 2002 to present, I can recall a new chicane past the Dunlop Bridge heading on down to the Esses, then to Tetre Rouge.

So that's what I meant. But if I'm complaining over nothing, set me straight.

Have a look at racingcircuits.net 💡

http://www.racingcircuits.net/

Just do a quick search on Le Mans and you can compare the circuit as it has changed throughout the years

Edited to add its a good source of track info, including the Nurburgring

PD seem to be adding even more realism into GT4 then before - all the new tracks revealed so far are either tracks based on real towns/cities/places or actual circuits (it makes sense to have 'real' cars on 'real' circuits) this added to more 'LM' cars in GT4 and increased advertising at 'La Sarthe' hopefully point to us having LeMans to play with come November. If they can fit in The Nurburbring - they can surely fit in LeMans.

The 'ring may be long, but it has little variation off the track (it mainly runs through a forest). Le Mans however would require a hugh amount of trackside detail.

Still PD have always said that the Green Hell would not be in, so fingers crossed for Le Mans, just remember its not always that straightforward.

However both the 'ring and Le Mans without Porsche and Ferrari is going to be a bit strange, so lets hope that the shots of both in Prologue (ending movie, etc) are a big hint and not a tease. :ouch:

edited 'cos I forgot how to spell

Le Mans = 8.625 Miles // 13.880 km

Nurburgring Nordschleife = 12.944 Miles // 20.830 km

Surely that means that they can get Le Mans in?!

More than half of LeMans also runs through forest. Also The 'Ring is situated in a very mountainous area - requiring much detail (check out the released pix of it)
LeMans on the other hand is very flat

The background (as in the mountains) is not the issue, its the actual buildings, sign posts, etc.

Its not my reason its PD's they have sighted the amount of detail required to reproduce Le Mans as being beyond the PS2's abilities. However as I said above, they said the same thing about the 'ring.

I have however driven the 'ring and been to Le Mans twice (not this year sadly) and the difference in the surrounds is quite amazing.

For a good idea it's worth getting hold of a copy of 'In Car 956' its got in car laps of both circuits (and many others) by Derek Bell (all bow down) in a Rothmans Porsche 956. The amount of trackside objects is very different.

You know, when I came to this topic today, I had a strange (but could be interesting) idea. What if Sony and/or PD held a contest during the 24 Hours of Le Mans (granted Circuit de la Sarthe will be in GT4)? Think about this. This contest will take place within 24 laps of the course. Winners of the races will be able to select any die-cast 1/25 scale model of any Le Mans car pf your choice. How that sound? Oh, by the way, when one race is done, it will keep going on until the Le Mans 24 is done for. So any races after the REAL LM24 will not happen. You like? Or do I need to take a nap?

Can you find a source for that, because PD has never once said the Ring won't or can't be in. They said that about LeMans and everyone (myself included) assumed the ring couldn't be done either.

Scaff is very right when he says theres more processing power taken to render closer trackside objects than far away scenery.
