Should GT4's gameplay be based around money building or test rewards?

  • Money building like all past Gran Turismo games.

I'm gonna have to go with my gut instinct on this one. Based on what I know from previous Gran Turismo games. I'm going to go with money making.

Money building. Gives more freedom IMO.

I think they should have a fair balance of both.

But then again, it might be tough for new players to get the test rewards (for example, getting all golds unlocks a certain 'special' car).. so I guess money making is the way to go. 👍

The new way makes the game seem fresh, and new; however, I am used to the old way. So, how about them both? Using a little of them both sounds good to me.

EDIT: Nah, I like it the way it is now. Keep it the same.

both..but i vote for money building

Money making, although prize cars are cool, in GT3 my garage was littered with cars I wouldn't sell just because I wouldn't be able to win them again without restarting.

Same with GT1 & 2, I wanted a 'clean' garage but wasn't willing to sell a race car for like 25000 credits or something :irked:

I still think the money/prize system worked best in GT1.

I'm just affraid that they will continue with the Prologue reward system, forcing people to delve into certain driving applications that one would normally ignore.

I just want one or two certain cars and be able to tune them to perfection.

If they made money a little harder to make and made the super high horsepower parts really expensive, but still allowed them for top speed and drag events, that would be cool. But also give players the ability to put horsepower limits on races.

Instead of making a completely revamped gameplay mode, there are tonnes of things they could do to perfect the almost ideal gameplay mode they already have.

(bleh, closed statement... gotta get out of that habit)

I voted for money building since it's easier to buy parts and cars that you want, but i also like to win cars that are expensive and don't already have, so as mentioned above, a mix of the two would be pretty nice.

I remember saving up for a Scooby WRX Sti/TVR Cerbera/Dodge Viper in GT1 & slowly upgrading them to race spec, I found it far more satisfying than simply winning cars like I found in GT2 + GT3 where I simply used expensive cars that I won to win most races :irked: I mean yeah I could sell all prize cars for like 2 credits but thats crap.

Winning some cars is fair enough but not every race there abouts, like in GT2 :O

Oh yeah bring back the older blue Viper with white stripes! :D Never liked the other paintschemes as much.

Money building, definitely. The GT2 layout worked pretty well I think. Winning cars through licences is ok but makes the game easier rather than harder for the experienced gamer, so I have my reservations to that system.

Perhaps getting all gold in a licence could unlock an extra upgrade, for example you have sports and racing brake kits, how about getting all gold unlocks a racing pro kit which you would still need to buy, but would be better than the racing kit. You could do it for different parts.

See this is what I don't want, and what I fear will happen. Tokyo Xtreme Racer uses this system combined with money building, which is really annoying and limiting.

I don't see it being limiting if it's an extra part, theres already plenty of parts to buy in the GT series and GT4 will have around twice as many. It's not like I'm saying don't have anything but the bottom level upgrades available at first, just throw in a couple of extra parts you have to win ontop of whats already available, not instead of.

Whats hard to understand? You have all the parts you already have in GT3 and more, then a few extra ones you unlock by getting golds in licences, your not limited by that, unless you think you still get a larger choice from the start than you got in GT3.

I don't like the idea of unlocking anything in GT4. I want it to be the same as the three previous titles, winning, or being rewarded, certain vehicles, being restricted only by the lack of credits.

I've favored the idea of the winning of parts for a long time, now. New parts like superchargers, fuel injection systems, etc... as well as old parts now available in GT3.

Oh, I meant in TXR3, how even if you have like 500,000 dollars, you can't just buy everything. You have to find one of the 600 opponents you need to defeat to unlock whatever part you need.

It would be stupid if you had to say, pass a rally time trial to unlock better brakes in GT4 instead of winning money that you could put towards those new brakes in the Parts Shop. Ya know?

Right, I see what your on about.

I agree with you, and that is why I changed my mind. We should have all parts made abvailable at all times, only being restricted to these parts due to lack of credits.

I still like the idea of parts rewards, though. Think about it. It happens in real life, doesn't it? As a racer gets better, he'll pick up sponsers that make auto parts, and they usually give free parts. And sometimes, amature racing events give prizes of high-performance auto parts, as well.

I just read this in an article on the Playstation website, located here.

Ami Blaire, director, product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America
“In Gran Turismo 4, automotive racing is much more than a sport, it is a lifestyle, as we take advantage of the highly successful game mechanics of its predecessor and present an even more in-depth racing experience with all new features.”

Sweeeet...
Mind you this was almost a year ago.

I just thought of a way to deal with the lack of a clutch pedal on the Driving Force Pro.

Simply hold the shifter back after it clicks and the clutch stays in.
When it shifts, it automatically clutches in, right? So...

Example:
Brake into left turn.
Downshift and hold shifter back and apply a little gas to bring the revs up.
Release shifter to complete downshift.
There's your heel-toe, boys.

Yeah, funny, I just thought about that this weekend when I accidentally held the shift button.

Yes, I think it does ... I have no idea if this will simulate the heal-toe but unless my memory plays tricks on me now the gear is only shifted once you release the shift button. I"ll confirm tonight and see what if any effect it has on the car behaviour. I'm not a very skilled driver myself so I only really learnt about heal-toe just a week ago when I was watching Best Motoring DVDs. :P

Well, try driving in a straight line and press and HOLD the downshift button, then at the same time press and hold the accelerator button. With the shift button still held, release the accelerator button.

If your revs blip (redline) while you hold the accelerator, but suddenly drop to zero when you release it, this means that the clutch stays in if you hold the shift button.

I look forward to the results of your experimenting.
