GT4 in Arcades

It would, like many other things people want in GT, just be a dream...

Anything is possible. The problem with America is people are less enthusiastic about driving and place a stigma of "for the kids" on video games.

I would really love to see the kind of game you guys just described make it's way to the arcades but I don't think we're so lucky. I mean with six pods, a memory card port and hardware to take advantage of GT4 you would have an experience like no other.

I would want them to take it a step further and go for online integration so arcade players could race against people at home and against other arcades. Possibly a Six-speed sequential 6-7 speed shifter would work better than the crappy unit used in F355 challenge.

It'd be cool to have a whole floor of those linked up over a iLink/LAN with a few huge big screens showing track side shots for the audience effect.

I wonder if the CPL would be interested in running a GT4 division... Then we'd get this sort of setup.

Whats the CPL? I'd be interested in having a setup like that.

Thinking about this... what you want to do is to make this sort of setup in a portable cabin type arrangement... then hire a truck and set up "shop" at a race track when there's a race there...

The amount of motorheads at each race that would pay good money for this would be phenomenal... It would easily pay for the 6 PS2's 6 Wheels (Plus a couple spare) and 6 screens in one day!! Do this every weekend... and you would make an absolute mint... set up a booth at the Motor Show every year too... You may even get sponsorship from PD themselves if you do it well enough!!

How hard can it be to fit 6 recaro seats to a floor and put 6 flat screens on a wall... make a pretty dash board and attach the steering wheel and a housing for the PS2... Job done... The only problem I can see is that you may want to put in the memory card and therefore you wouldn't want the front of the PS2 to be that close to the front of the booth... so you would need to make some sort of custom extension lead that allows you to put a memory card at a distance!!

That's one hell of an idea - the only catch being you're making money from a machine and game designed for private consumption only, I'm sure games feature a similar "Public Viewing" clause to DVDs, so you'd need to sort out licensing with Sony and PD and Logitech and everyone else first. However, it would certainly kick ass if Sony fitted out a GT4 bus or something similar

http://www.thecpl.com/ - The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL), one of the biggest international gaming competitions.

A bus.... OMG that's even better... Genius...

Defs would have to speak to everyone about licencing but I don't think that they would mind for a fee... especially if you did it well...

Imagine a bus with Gran Turismo Liveries down the side?

You would have to supe the bus up though so that it would be a true GT bus!!!

You might even be able to have two floors of pods (6 on each floor) Now that would be sweet!!

Like a 'cyber cafe' on wheels :D

And yeah you'd need some form of licensing, else PD would be getting lawyers onto ya instead of giving you sponsorship :scared: Probably have to pay a fee to the race track owners too.

Well if anyones a millionaire in GTP.... They could probably make one or something just to see how it works out in a arcade(J/K)...

BTW, since more kids go to the arcade than adults do... I don't think anybody would believe that GT would make profits...... Initial D is just plain simple.. Grab the wheel make a mess on the first lap (first timers I mean), and do clean turns starting the next...... GT does not have a learning curve like that!!

I have been playing games since my father brought home an Atari 2600
when I was 6. The progression goes then to an IBM AT, then a Commodore64
(which I think is one of the best game machines ever), then a SNES and Genesis,
a 386DX, a 486DX4-100, my first Pentium, a PlayStation (bought by my long-time girlfriend for me for Xmas in 1997) a couple more PC's ( including this one) and my PS2.
In between the SNES days and the PS days, I played arcades every day.
I was mostly drawn in by Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct, but I wish I knew just how many quarters I sunk into Ultimate Mortal Kombat...it must be hundreds of dollars.
Since then, Gran Turismo has become the only game I will
always play.
If they made a GT Arcade, I would be there all the time.

"Animateria" --is that a FF reference...if it is, I like it.

I'd love to play GT4 in the arcade and would gladly pay $1 per game session including you get the next race for free if you come in first :D. Problem is, some of these dr1ft3rz would hog the machines all day showing of their "/\/\@|) tite skillz."

I dont like the idea of GT4 arcade, I would rather them put all there effort into the console GT series.

That's another problem to arise; so many people would be playing that you probably wouldn't get a chance to play it. :ouch:

DId anyone here had any impulse to beat these people up? ....i'm talking about those who clip their Initial D cards (they have many!!) on top of the machine and a big slurppy cup of coins, with their butts glued to the seat, acting like no one is waiting behind them

i don't know about you but every time i see them i want to give them a leg right at their necks 👎

I wouldn't care... If I was running the show then the minimum amount of downtime between punters (i.e. the same punter throwing in coin after coin after coin) the better...

Although if you had two sets of 6 with races against each other then I don't think that this would be a problem... especially as you could technically have 6 races of 2 players each going on here and there... although you would have to employ a complex switching system... not that that would be too hard to sort out!!

The Vanishing Boy
Just like the highly popular, highly-expensive Sega-Rosso's Initial D sequels, what if Sony/Polypony Digital would come out in an arcade version of Gran Turismo series along with the Playstation version. With your PS-series type memory card to upload/save the progress in the game, just like Initial D.

That would be fun. :)
arcade/same load with memory card is ok but just dont down tune the difficult until like initial d, the most fake game i ever see. hahaha the most good example is the car speed up more faster when taking conner, its more clear to see those speed up in high speed conner. and yeah no brake when reach conner? yeah its a tottally fake. my friend told me last time about initial d : initial d? sega? damn its a waste for sure to get sega to make initial d, i think its better to give some namco or konami to do it

Taito's Battle Gear 3 [Coin-Op] also features the same memory card system just like Initial D, but the game is way more realistic than InD and Ridge Racer series.

Hmmm, how would you decide when it was the end of someone's go??

And plus, just to have a steering wheel and a big screen, and my own screen for multiplayer, to have to go to a busy arcade AND pay more money doesnt sound too good to me.

She's not a porn star but she has been a playboy playmate, she's called Carmilla DeCesare.

haha, should search before posting - I asked a while back ;)

I haven't seen an arcade in Australia that had more than 6 identical machines - that would be for Daytona USA.

I'm not sure you would classify the bus idea as an arcade... more of a GT zone!!

I still reckon it would work...

Estimations of prices here...
£150 * 14 PS2's
£30 * 14 GT4's
£10 * 14 Memory cards.
£100 * 14 DFP wheels.
£300 * 14 Flat screens.
= £8,260 (12 + 2 spares)

Plus Bus £30,000 (Very rough estimate!)

= £38,260

Initial Outlay.

Yearly costs...

+ £1,000 * 12 = £12,000 (Licences)
£3,000 Insurance on Bus (including the stuff inside)
£3,000 Petrol + Upkeep

£18,000 overheads...

Income...

Work for 48 weeks a year... 4 days a week (fri-mon) = 192 working days a year. (Maybe add some for school holidays?!)

Say 12 hours each of those days. Each race takes on average 10 minutes per group.

23,040 time slots per year. 75% success ratio = 17,280 used slots.

17,280 * 9 people at a time (75% success here too). = 155,520 paid slots a year...

So £155,520 a year at one pound a go...

or £77,760 a year at 50p a go...

50% success ratios...

69,120 used slots a year...

£69,120 at a pound a go...

£34,560 at 50p a go...

Hmmm... reckon that might work you know?!

With those turn overs you would be making at least 50% profit and also you would be able to pay back the business loan in at least 3 years...

I hate to screw your statistics but weekends at races are going to be your biggest draw.

i did - in surfers paradise - can´t remember what game though.

arcades in germany are more or less a meetingpoint for criminals, therefor i´d rather stay at home playing GT and smoke a little....:dopey:
