those liscense tests are bull anyway, i hate them, same with those misson tests. I lost a lisence test by .03 seconds because they give me the crappiest car in the game. Why cant i do the lisence tests with the F1? On races where i cant use a supercar i b-spec, i didnt buy the game to drive a ****ing dodge ram around a circut, i use my touring, le mans, f1, and race cars.

:nervous: :nervous: Dodge Ram, that doesn't seem good, by the way, how do you like the Sauber C9 in the Ring ? Or the Speed 8 at le Man ?

PS: THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO PLAY A GAME so let those who think loading up a few cheat (Cheat is too strong of a word I think sometimes!) codes say what they wan to say! They way I see it, you can either get mad and/or bored of the game and get rid of it and thereby not enjoy the full potential the game has to offer, or you can load a few special codes for some extra money and/or in order to pass a few tests or get a few cars that you really want but don't have the time to go out and obtain because of some 'test' and continue to enjoy the game!

👍

My feelings exactly. It's a game. You're playing against a computer. It doesn't matter how you play it as long as you enjoy it.

i'm redoing all the licences......... just realised an easy way of getting at least silver on each part (for us useless peeps who cant drive for toffee in GT4 hehe):

press R3 (right analogue down) at the start of each test: the racing line and braking points are now clearly shown

if i'd have only known this before......... RTFM springs to mind, but i cant seem to see it mentioned anywhere!!!

sooooo no excuses now!!

It's not impossible to be good at GT4.

Personally... I just dont think that liscense tests are that hard really. If you can't beat them, you shouldnt be in the higher class races, its that simple.

[snip]

Personally, I wouldnt be satisfied if I had to cheat to get through the game. Whatever floats your boat is fine, but youre missing out on a lot of fun in my opinion.

I agree 100%! 👍

I do enjoy driving and being challenged. The problem is that this game is trying to be all things to all people, there are those who get upset at the test or missions and don't want to take the time to practise. The awesome thing is that you don't have to get all the licenses to have fun. Hell, play elsewhere in the game and then come back to the license tests and you may find that you have gotten better! :dopey:

When you're adding thoughts to your previous post and no one has posted in between, please use the EDIT button down there and simply put them in the original post rather than posting multiple one-liners.

Thanks.

R3 only works for nat b and nat a, in int licenses and specials this function has been diabled, making it to easy for gold on all events.
Gold in all tests, starting specials tonight i hope. Good luck hunting gold guys 👍

Me i just kinda suck at gt4 but at least i dont cheat. Please do them all at bronze, it is possible.. sucky me did it, think about it :)

First post.......

I think the thing this shows is just how different different people can be doing essentially the same tests (If you take out the fact that us with the PAL version will find it more difficult because of the game differences-Im sure they put that in as we all know septics cant drive... ;) )

I myself am struggling with the Bentley on the special license - so far ive managed to complete just one lap without goin off somewhere and that lap was 4 seconds off bronze... Previously I found the Audi round that hilly track and the Merc round Nurburgring very difficult too........

I can only assume the guy trying to equate real world driving and GT4 is a kid not old enough to drive - I mean come on? I drive a very fast 4wd turbocharged car (glad to see it was in one of the early license tests..) and I think I am not bad at it, certainly not Carlos Sainz or Marku Allen but not bad.
What I dont do however is drive an 800bhp le mans car regularly at speeds of 220mph - and then have to brake for a chicane.... Who knows - maybe the guy that typed that crap about real world driving owns an LM car....... :dopey:

Ive just got a logitech rally wheel - anyone any experience of one of these with GT4? (all the other ones were sold out)..

I'm new here myself, but welcome aboard, and thanks for your realistic comments.

Sorry, i don't know anything about Wheels yet as i'm using a DS2 at the moment.

Cheers,

Gram.

To the author of this thread, I'm sorry that you're experiencing all of this. I played this game for about a week, and I'm up to about 21% completion. In most of the later license tests, all I could get was bronze except for my license test with Chamonix with the loud and twitchy Peugeot 205 Rally Car (the 1985 model). If you really know how to win races and how to handle even the most imperfect machines, then not getting at least Bronze in license tests is actually disappointing. I'm not knocking you here, it's just that since GT4 is much more different in handling dynamics and physics, you have to really know what the heck you're doing to win races. If you have ANYTHING to fear in license tests, let it be the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Why Nurburgring? It's tough because the corners are so technical and it demands full and total concentration. If you can't concentrate or have a habit of throwing the car off the track, you're obviously going to be in deep crap. And not to make a spoiler, but two tests require you to complete a full lap of the Nurburgring Nords. Actually, they are both in the same vehicle, just that one is a street car, and its variant is a race car. I didn't tell you any exacts because I don't want to make a pure spoiler. So to understand car control, I hate to say this, but race Nurburgring Nordschliefe. All of the corners require great concentration. Oh, and I forgot to mention that most of the track are two-lane roads.

Things to remember: if you see shift numbers next to your current gear, just be sure to shift down into that gear. It may change from a "5" all the way down to a "2." It's showing you how to carry your gears through the corner. So just keep trying, and don't give up. GT4 may be hard, but it isn't impossible.

Practice, practice, practice, and you'll eventually get what you desire.

However, there's nothing wrong with cheating. You don't have to take the game too seriously, so if you wanna cheat, go right ahead. You're missing out on some stuff, but hey, whatever works. It's your game, do what you want.

Just ignore any cheat nazis saying that you're a loser if you cheat.

The licenses aint that hard really only one i had trouble with was the bentley one on the special time trial.. watch the demos and keep at it and you will get them

Sometimes you do what is right and drive the racing line correctly, but then the Demo Driver does it like he/she owns the joint. Sometimes, even, you begin to feel like you want to break something since the demo driver does something completely perfect. Use the demo to help you out. A nice thing about the demo is that if you've completed a lap, your Ghost will play alongside the demo driver. The key for gold is to pay close attention to what the demo driver does, then you must drive exactly like that, but find out where he/she screwed up with, and take advantage. For example, if at the final turn, the demo driver handled the corner beautifully but lost some good speed, try to drive the rest of the course beautifully and try to get a faster top speed. Gold shall be yours. The more you study the demos, the more you'll get better ratings. You'll be having more gold than most hip-hop artists then.

And I agree, the Audi R8 test was pretty damn tough. You had to race the correct line and get as much speed as possible through the corners. To me, the Sears Point lap around with the Audi R8 was like Monte Carlo with the Toyota GT-One (GT3).

My main weakness in license tests is that sometimes when I'm really deseperate to get a better result, I end up taking very aggressive driving manners, trying to get as much speed as possible. I often ask myself, "do I have to be fast, or do I have to be smooth?" Sometimes, it's speed. Sometimes, it's handling. Sometimes, it's both. Both of them have to be done in a way so that you prepare yourself for the next turn. Just remember that racing around like this is like a math problem- if you do everything right, you'll solve the problem. If you screw up in one place, you've messed up the entire problem. There are no timeouts or mulligans. It's all one time runs, and you must get it right.

Everyone in here agree on that the test help you tons, but they also agree that some of them are kinda frustrating and painful.
As soon as you beging to get mad at the game or frustrating thats the minute most people quit on the game and starts to pick dust, but just enjoy the game and try to have fun :)

Let me add another "Don't give up!" to the list. All it takes is some practice. I'm far from the best driver in the world, but I was able to bronze the B, A, IB, and IA licenses fairly quickly.

I'm now about 28% complete, and I've gone back and silvered B, A, half of IB, and bronzed all but the final two S tests. The S-class tests I found to be incredibly easy to get bronze on, actually, since I've learned the tracks while playing the game. Except for a few off-course excursions or wallbangs, the only test I failed on time was Opera, as I'd never driven the track before, and that was only by a couple tenths (and I bronzed it easily on the next try). I even passed the rally ones on the first completed tries (though I crashed a few times on Chamonix), and I hate rally and absolutely suck at it. The test I had the hardest time silvering so far was the Grand Canyon rally test for the A license. Had to run it about 30 times, often coming within .025 seconds of the silver mark, before I finally managed to beat it.

Oh, and I even managed a silver on IA-15 the first time I actually completed it, and that was only the second compete lap I'd ever made on the Ring. The hardest part was the damn pace car; I hit or passed it about three times on that really sharp left-hand bend in the final third of the course.

Just keep trying and you'll make it. Remember to brake early and smoothly, and your lap times will improve significantly. That's always been the hard part for me, as I have a terrible habit of braking late and just throwing the car sideways into the corner. You could get away with that to an extent in GT3, but not in GT4 at all. I'd recommend using the gear suggestion indicator as a braking guide: when it starts flashing, you start braking. It's often very conservative, but if you start with that suggested point and adjust from there, you'll be a lot smoother through the corners, and thus a lot faster. 👍

I can understand the thread starter getting frustrated and needing to rant a little. If the game didn't frustrate most people a great deal from time to time it really wouldn't be fun to play for such a long time.

I hate the license tests not because I find them difficult(well, some are), but because they're a huge waste of time. I can understand their importance for somebody new to GT, but having past experince with the GT games I get nothing from them except frustration. Video games are for recreation IMO. If the license tests ruin the fun for you then by all means cheat!

While we're on the subject, what's the point of honing your skills in the license tests? To prepare you for racing against inferior AI drivers with inferior cars?

These are the comments that are just stupid. You're admitting that you don't want to be a good driver. You're saying you race with superior cars that have no chance of losing to the AI unless you drive like a total idiot. Is that really fun?

I find it very impressive that they have made a game where this kind of person can enjoy it to some degree but there is still so much for someone who actually wants to be good at it.

I do have to agree with most people here saying license tests are easier in GT4. I'm not so sure about the gold times. Some are pretty hard and some aren't (although GT4 certainly seems to have many more golds that I can beat by a significant margin, but that's probably just because there are so many more full-lap tests), but the bronze times are definitely easier in GT4.

I just got GT4 yesterday evening. So far I've gone through and golded all of the B-license, and the first 15 tests of the A-license. By far the hardest test so far was the B-license full lap of Tsubuka in the Mini. That took ages, but then the slow car tests are always the hardest. All the other 1 lap tests I have golded on either my 1st or my second lap.

The licenses are totally inconsistent. GT3 made sense. The B Licenses were easy, A was a little more difficult, IB was harder than that, then IA and finally the S licenses were the most difficult.

It appears that with the success of GT3 and all the anticpation of GT4, it was decided that the game didn't really need to make sense. It was just easier to make it look great.

For example, what is the point of full lap time trials in B and A??? It's ridiculous.

Secondly, and this is my main gripe, the programmers obviosly set the times with very nice $150 logitech wheels, and if you can't compete with your DS, then your just a loser, and they are arrogant enough to not care. Struggle for your bronze and feel like a loser because you can't steer as delicately, or throttle as accurately with the poorly implemented dual-shock controller.

Thirdly, the exams are wildly inconsistent. On one of the exams I got gold on my FIRST finish, which was only my second start in that license. There are several on which I got silver on my 1, 2, or 3rd try. There are a few I got gold in just a few minutes, and then there are others that took 1/2 hour just for a bronze. like, ummm, NURBURGRING. I just spent 2 hours on S-9 and ended up with a bronze., still 0.443 away from silver. Two hours and no silver, when I can get gold on some of the others in 10 minutes???

One or two of the golds are sort of easy, and the rest are very very difficult. A few of them are just absurdly difficult, and I don't plan on ever getting gold on those. It's BS, because I know if I had the right controller, I would not have to settle for silver.

Sure, the times given for licenses are probably fair. *for an ace with $150 controller, and no daytime job.

Effo_Nienforr_S
and no daytime job.

I agree. This game is just way to hard for the average gamer. I got up to 70% legitmately (without B-Spec), but now for the rest I almost always use B-Spec.

For example, the GT WorldChampionship; I know players say is all you need is RSH Tires and you can win w/o piting. OK, it's true, but by the time I get to the last 2 laps or so, my tires are sooo worn out, that the other cars regain their lead.

See, it's real hard to know when to brake and suspension/custimize, whatever...

I think I'll just stop playing altogether, instead of just the lisence tests.

I found that the tests arent in order either, some B licenses are harder to gold than some S licenses. I dont however think that just because you have a DS2 its automatically impossible, i managed 80 golds with my DS2 without much trouble at all, its very possible.

Personally apart from IA - 15 (took 40min) IA was the easiest license to gold, really B should of been the easiest (maybe it is, and i was just better when i got to IA).

I dont think this game is too hard for the avg gamer, it has some nice challenges for the fast guys (mission hall) and its bronze times are probably the leaniet yet in a GT game.

GT4 has done a good job of catering for all skill types.

Effo_Nienforr_S

I golded all the licenses and have passed all the Mission Hall events using the Dual Shock controller. You don't have to have the wheel to pass these missions, although I'll admit it MAY have been easier on some of them, I don't know as I've never used a wheel before.

I'm using a DS2 and have so far got gold on 18 of the 80 tests, with silvers on the remaining 62. Hopefully this gold tally will keep increasing. As long as you keep practicing you should be able to gold the license tests whatever your set-up is.

I disagree that the DS2 makes it so much more difficult. In fact, I doubt that the DS2 makes attaining golds any harder. The reason that most people who have a DFP wheel have 80 golds, is because they are more hardcore GT4-ers in the first place.

It's not a case of, if you have a wheel you are more likely to have 80 golds.

It's a case of, if you have 80 golds you are more likely to have a wheel.

Those two statements are *very* different.

I have a DS2, and got GT4 yesterday late afternoon. I have already systematically gone through and got gold in every test, all the way up to IB-15. The only test I had to leave and go back to, to get gold, was B5 in the Mini. The rest were fine.

I use left foot braking with the DS2, it can gain you time but is in no way necessary to get golds. All you need to get gold is to brake in a straight line, turn in and make a nice apex, get the throttle down early. Advanced techniques are not needed.

You shouldn't be struggling to get bronze. The exception being on the Nurb if you don't know it very well. But on any other track, bronze should be a walk in the park, if you just concentrate. I gave my 13 year old brother a go at some of the A license tests, and he passed them all on the first go which he didn't go off the track. He even got silver on some.

Again, like I said before, the tests are totally inconsistent. I am not a newb, and again, like I said before, I "golded" a number of licenses in 10 minutes or less. OTOH, I just spent another two hours just to get silver. ( S-9 )

Also, I am not saying it is impossible, what I am saying is that it much more difficult than it should be. I think that the percentage of players able to get all gold in every license should absolutely no less than 2% of all GT gamers. My guess is that the actual figure is much below that. If I had to guess, after reading this board for what, 3 years (?), that the number of GT'rs with all gold is probably 0.1 percent.

I would like to see a poll where we can see what the actual percentage of GT'rs on this board have all gold on GT3. My bet is that less than 1%, even after playing for 2 years have all gold.

I agree with you.
I have only 35 Gold and 15 Silver.
Some of licences are very hard to get bronze.

The second looser i see round here. That´s bad. Ur just a looser...better give up as u said...

A little crude, but effective.
Effective at what? Here's a guy at his wit's end, openly expressing his exasperation, and you think he's in need of some sort of moral lesson? Get real dude. 👎

decker12- As many others have already said, just enjoy your game, man. I've bronzed or silvered all my licenses, but that was in part because I practiced and practiced and practiced on the 'Ring in PGR2 before the release! LOL!

Chin up, fellow gamer. It's a gargantuan game of golden goodies and should be enjoyed. I myself recently purchased a Codebreaker 9.0. The Have All Cars Purchasable and Cost $1 cheat rul3z! :D

And yet, it hasn't detracted from my game. I am still hammering away at Mission 11!

GT4 is an awesome video game. But at the end of the day, it is a game you should enjoy and play, not force yourself to endure.

Happy Easter everyone.

I have had GT4 for 2 days now. I have golded all of the B,A,I-B,I-A licenses, and have golded the first 5 S-license tests. I golded S-5 about midday today, but I haven't played since. Have been distracted by cricket, and Metal Gear Solid 3 (unbelievably good game, best game ever IMO).

Hardest test so far in terms of time taken would be B5 in the mini. Hardest in terms of attempts would be one of the B license tests, at El Capitan, just one long left handed corner, took me many attempts.

With the S-license tests, I find I normally get about 2 seconds off gold on the first try, and get gold on about the 4th/5th try. S4 took me longer than that though. Conversely, the test in the Lancia around the street circuit with lots of hairpins (forget the name), I got gold by 2 seconds on my second attempt. Some tests are easy, some are hard.

I'm not looking forward to the nurburgring test I will have to do later in the S-license. So far I have only driven 2 laps of the nurburgring, whilst golding IA-15. The first lap I drove at the Nurb I was very cautious, got a 9:06.5, gold was 9:00. But second time round I was aware of the dangers, and paced myself to a cautious 8:58.1. Really all you have to do is follow the pace car and you will get gold. It's the mistakes that will cost you from time. I was really glad there was a pace car in this test. You can just copy him and get gold. Without him, I think I would have struggled to make 9:20, simply because you have *no idea* how fast you are supposed to be going.

It's OK to be frustrated. It happens to the best of us dude. As for me, I get frustrated all the time and I get really angry. Just vent your fury in a (sort of, hehe) controlled manner. On the I-A coffee break, I missed gold by 9 thousandths on my second attempt. In the end, it took me 40 minutes to get gold (by 0.7 seconds as I finally got it right). I was so mad, I was pummelling my fists on the floor and yelling at my TV. I bashed my DS2 into the floor several times but it still works. I felt like screaming when I got gold (I didn't fortunately). But boy it felt good!
