I plugged my CF card reader into the PS2 via a USB cable and put in a 64mb card into the reader. Initially, the PS2 didn't detect the hardware, but when I went to save a photo (and a rather tasty one at that) the power on the CF reader came on and it began to save the image. A third of the way up the saving progress scale it stopped and flashed up an error message.

i got a Sandisk Mini 128MB got the same error

which format should the CF card be in? FAT32 or NTFS?

Pretty sure FAT/FAT32 since Microsoft probably hasn't licensed out NTFS to Sony or PD.

I don't suppose anybody who's already got GT4 has a powered USB drive, huh? Would be nice to eliminate USB power as a factor.

Ahhh I see, so is the family cup all the same cars like in GT2, or closely matched cars?

should be cars in the same class

when i raced with my EVO8 MR, my opponents were NSX, 350Z, WRX etc

Does anyone know what the adjustable scale is before you start a 'Family Cup' race?

Unfortunately, mine doesn't have the option of extra power. However, I think power's not a factor, in my case anyway, because it has enough to operate. I think it must be the card format. It gets to the point where it checks the format and then stops because it's not the same as the format used by official Sony drives. Would I be right in thinking that?

Possibly, but then if Sony used a proprietary format for their drives, were we never meant to be able to view the images on a PC? Or would the drives have their own special drivers and whatnot? How would you format (say you wanted to clear out all the pictures) the drive?

It seems a little dodgy then - making the USB thing, not a feature for GT4, but as a money grabber for Sony.

A thought - you said the USB card reader didn't power up until you entered Photo Mode? What happens when you boot the PS2 with the card reader already plugged in? Just turning a few gears in my head, eliminating incorrect thought paths.

Thanks for the attempts!

There's a feature that I haven't seen anyone cover called 'Wheel of the day' in which there are about 20 randomly selected sets of wheels from standard cars which you can put on any one of your garage cars. For example, IRL I have seen many cars using the R34 GT-R six-spoke wheels on cars other than the GT-R. Well, if you are so inclined you can go out and put GT-R wheels on your Silvia or Chaser, or even 'moon disc' wheels on your GT-R! I wonder if changing the rims this way actually changes the size of the tyres? Now that would be cool. Quite a neat little feature anyway.

That's actually what I did in the first place. Next time I shall try it the other way around.

• What it mean 'correct part'? There is only a part of the track that can be displayed in high res?
Another question:
• Tell me if I'm right... so all the tracks can be used in Photomode?
• Someone know if that USB MAX Drive (of datel I think) can be used too to transfer pictires on the PC?

Thanx :)

Sorry, gotta go out. Just briefly - you can get bigger rims by modifying your car more I think. I modified my Evo to 450+ ps and added weight reduction stage II and I can get slightly bigger rims. I think that perhaps when you modify the car fully, you can get race size/spec wheels. I'm not sure, so don't quote me, but it looks that way. Also you are able to change back to your standard rims by pressign R! in the wheel shop and you can get your original spoiler by selecting the picture of the man in the spoiler shop. OK, gotta go - bye!

Chaser Fan, what do you get for competing the mission hall races? Did you get anything for that SLR on Nurb race?

you can get bigger wheels by upgrading to racing spec tires (R1-R5)... once you do, when you go into the wheel shop you'll notice that you'll have bigger versions of your stock wheels (for your evo, that would mean bigger steel wheels)... that means you'll have to buy a new set of wheels for race tire upgrades...

What about wheels that you buy. Are they available onl for that car or (as in GT3) for all cars? And you can change the wheels from stock to these new as you want? Can anyone explain more about that?

these wheels should be available for almost every car... except for the Nike One and probable some of the other concept futuristic vehicles... from what i've read from the other threads, it seems that if you wanna change back to your original wheels, you'll have to do it at the wheel shop for 50,000 creds... seems a bit strange to me though...

Interesting. Looks like a time consuming job tough.

I should affect cornering stability too. Did you try that?

well the benefits were more from the tires... as they were slicks, the grip increased quite a bit from the sports tire...

Yes, there were some cars, which couldn't have their wheels changed (F1 cars, ...). So if you buy one set it is available for all cars, if you want? That is great. Just the price seems a bit too harsh. PD should make like: you buy a certain wheel for (for example) 50.000Cr and you only pay like 1000Cr to put it on the car or to chage them for stock wheels or any other for that matter.

So there is not like in GT3, where you went to your garage, pick up your car and there was also the change wheel option, which allowed you to put on any wheel you want free of charge.

no actually, it seems that its one set of wheels per car... you can't switch em around like before... also some of the races (like the Turbo Cup) won't allow racing slicks... it automatically switches back to my sports tires (with my customized wheels)...

Are you saying that the wheels aren't interchangable between cars (ie, you must buy seperate wheels for each car) or are you saying that each car can only have one set of wheels?

A bit of both actually... I've bought wheels for two seperate cars and haven't found a way to interchange them... however, I have not bought two sets of wheels for one car so I can't say if you can interchange wheels for the same car... but as I mentioned before, because racing tires allow you to get bigger rims, wheels you bought for your sports tires will not fit your racing tires... you will have to buy new wheels when you upgrade to racing slicks (or go with bigger versions of your stock wheels)... hope that wasn't too confusing...

I'll buy some wheels tonight to see if they're interchangable for one car...

Doh, I was kind of hoping for the same wheel situation as GT3. Not entirely realistic as you only had to buy a wheel set once and then could fit it to 200 cars if you felt so inclined, but it was easy to take care of your wheel collection. That way of doing things would be expecially helpful with collecting the Wheel of the Day offerings :|
