GT 3 size: 3.5GB

GT3 Cars: 190
GT3 Tracks: around 20 (not including mirrors)

GT4 cars: 2000 (10 times as many)
GT4 Tracks: 100 (NOT INCLUDING MIRRORS) (5 times as many)

So Really, we’re looking at about 7 times the game data. 7*3.5=24.5GB, roughly, so that’s at least 6 DVDs, assuming they’re still 4.7GB Maximum. And 6 DVDs, how much is that going to cost the buyer?

The Quotes seem sort-of feasible, but If 1 DVD costs £20 to buy, this game's going o be rather expensive when it comes out (assuming it's going to be that big), unless the team at PD have some sort of compression thing, but that wld only lead to slower loading times

I've just had an idea.

Instead of Disc 1 Arcade, Disc 2 GT Mode, you could have somethng like

Disc 1 Arcade, Disc 2 Road Cars, and maybe Disc 3 Racng cars to separate Races with things like Yarises (what's the plural of Yaris?) from races with C5Rs and souped up beasts like those.

And they maybe to fill my 6 disc idea from my last post by having (Like GT2) East, West, North and South Cities on different Discs.

Well I like having 1 disc. 2 is fine, but no more than that. If they had to split up the data like that, it would mean no Simulation mode because everything is seperated (one disc has some cars and the other disc has the other's)...

reading that rumor makes you wanna drop a log right there in your pants! damn that would be sweet!!!

Have the people who have posted here ever played a PC game that uses 2 discs ?

I would assume those who can't see multiple discs working have either not played a multi disc PC game or assume the PS2 is not clever enough to keep the program in its memory so it knows what to do with cars it gets from the other discs. The second point here is possible.

With PC games it has the main program/s on disc 1. It loads them into memory. You then choose which car/track you want. It then tells you which disc it needs to get the info from. When you change discs you do not lose the main program as that stays in the memory of the PC. You just add the data for the track/car.

As I have said it is possible the PS2 can not work this way but this is how multiple discs can work. PC games have done this for years. You don't need an arcade disc and a sim disc. You need a program disc and extra data discs.

It was in a press release that the PS3 will have a multi disc changer, that should lead way to some kick ass games :D

You dont seem to see the point. In order for a game console (or a PC) to be able to use the car, it needs to be on the disc itself, not just memory. If I programed a Shelby GT500 on one game disc, then programmed a Dodge Viper on another, I would not be able to use the Viper on the GT500 disc, because it is not programmed onto it and the computer cant find the inoformation it needs to run that car on the disc. Even if you could get the info on alot of discs, it would be a big hassle and people would not buy it. What happens if you lost the disc its asking for? It would also be very expensive to make and would have to sell for a very high price...

Here is another example. Remeber how GT2 had 2 disc's. One for Sim mode, and the other for Arcade? Well the cars had to be programmed onto both discs...

Ok I'm not saying their going to be on multiple discs or anything like that but even if they were short on space, they could use dual layered dvds which can hold I think up to 9 gig. And even if their wasn't enough room, they could use double sided dual layered dvds. Maybe arcade on side one and sim on the other. These dvds hold up to 18 gig also i think.

well the numbers are in for cars. its official that over 1000 cars will be in the game.

well there is also the theory of Sony finally coming out with a hard drive where the disks could possibly load data onto the hard drive tostore everything on the 6 disks if it is so. . . But I don't see more then 2 maybe 3 disks used.

Maybe they could introduce a new type of Memory card that comes with the game?

Introducing the NEW, GT4 only memory card: Required for GT4, This memory card will hold everything that you will need to play GT4, from track records, to the cars that you modify yourself

If we had to buy exspensive extra equipment I wouldnt buy it. If it was at a cheap price or free I would. Sony might be switching to their new Blu-Disc for PS3 which is almost like a Floppy disc but can hold up to 5 times more data than a DVD...

I would see the point of having memory cards with the prestigious GT4 logo on0 them as a sort of merchandising, but single game-only memory cards, if they cost as much as standard 8MB memory crards are seriously going to put people off buying the game. Put it ths way. If GT4 comes out at something like £30 (or $45), anither £25 ($40) on top of that will make even a 1000+ car game seem expensive.

I think more expansive discs will be in use, if not, we may be looking at 4 discs of which to keep track. Not that I would mind - it would be well worth it. The exclusive memory card thing would be a joke. The Playstation consoles are already way too incovenient to own: only two controller slots, no harddrive - memory cards a must, every single piece of new hard ware must be bought (network card, etc.) and the vertical stand ($20 new?!?!?). If I hadn't fallen in love with Gran Turismo 2, there is no way I would have shelled out $200 for the PS2 when I could have the Xbox for the same with many more features. Good thing GT3 made it worth the purchase alone, now GT4 will just make me that much happier and less malcontent without having games like Halo.

4 disc? maybe, rem the current ps2 disc hold somewhere around 1.4 or 1.7 gb, something like tht

i think when the gt4 does come they will be making it ten times better all over not in one place. sony will carry on and on till the best is there in my eyes gt3 is the best so i can not see gt4 loseing out ;)

sony already is the best

(please dont respond giving me crap about xbox performance... you obviously don't understand what i'm saying)

but i think the number is close to 2,000,000.00 cars!!!
as long as you have internet connection then you can download cars to your memory card, does diablo ring a bell every body downloaded it from the internet, and that is what gt4 is all about:D
again i confirmed i am a genius. period:D

why dont PP breaf the suspense...DAMMIT

You couldnt save a car to your memorycard anyway. The cars take up too much space for 8MB...

so this is where large HDs come in.

there is still no doubt that sony is going to change they way we play games with their next gen console in 2005 (i may be able to save up for one by then :P )

i dont remember saying it was not:lol:

Remember, they're using a different engine for this one, so they may have found a way to dramatically decrease file size, so who knows, they MAY be able to fit everything on one disc. If they could, I think I would have to give them a big rock fist up.
