Care to tell us where said article might be? I'd like to see it, since I haven't heard diddly squat about GT4.

This is what I could find about GT4. I'm sure most of you have read this though.

March 13, 2003 - At a press assembly in Tokyo, Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi made some comments about the upcoming sequel, Gran Turismo 4. He mentioned that although some improvements were made in Gran Turismo 3, many ideas were still not implemented, and that they, Polyphony Digital, want to "...fully explore the simulation aspects of the series."
Although the comment is somewhat ambiguous, it does imply a more realistic physics engine for the cars, and possibly their interaction with the tracks. Even if nothing had been said, more realistic physics in the game would be a natural and obvious progression for the Gran Turismo series. Easily one of the most sophisticated driving simulation series around, the next Gran Turismo game has nowhere to go but down an even more detailed and realistic path.

Yamauchi also said that "...a wholly redesigned gameplay system has been proposed, including new modes of play," and that network compatibility (online play) is something that the team is exploring. Online play for Gran Turismo 4 has been rumored for months, so although Yamauchi's comments are exciting, it comes as little surprise. Again, like a more complex physics engine, the inclusion of online play is a logical step for the series.

Additionally, Yamauchi made a short comment in regards to damage modeling: "We're still interested in vehicle damage modeling, but that issue has caused some arguments with auto manufacturers." Since previous Gran Turismo games were not allowed to have damage modeling, chances are slim that the next incarnation of the series will have it, but at least we know that it is something Polyphony is pushing for.

Little else was said about the game, but expect the game to be shown at this year's E3 in May. Check back with IGN for more news regarding Gran Turismo 4 as it happens.

also GT4 will probaly be in 2 disc's just like GT2 becasue they used 4.7 Gb of the dvd on ther first one..but they should be using 2 dics why.? is becasue gt3 has lots of bugs so that they just cram the game in and not fix the errors.. and slo they daid they will extra and more stuff like improve car damage and intense the car looks in the interiro also in the exterior..and aslo they added two new tracks..to GT4 there is one on the china gournds yay!! and the other i think i don't know.lol. also they daid they fix all bugs..and move futher to putting more callsic cars and new cars..so the GT2 cars u guys loved thats not in GT3 well they will probaly be in the GT4 so look forward to ut guys..

here is the info i think its old but it should be useful and its this is straght form the spokperson!!

Kazunori Yamauchi, the Polyphony Digital president, made an appearance during the last Tokyo Amlux Auto Salon. He spoke for a long time about Gran Turismo 3 and Gran Turismo Concept ambitions, and he dropped the very first informations concerning Gran Turismo 4:

'Some improvements were made in Gran Turismo 3 but many ideas still weren't implemented. In GT4 we want to fully explore the simulation aspects of the series. A wholly revised gameplay system has been proposed including new modes of play. Network compatibility for example is a major step in development and something we're exploring.
We're still interested in vehicle damage modeling, but that issue has caused some arguments with auto manufacturers. We also have to consider the limitation of the media. While many restrictions have been removed in terms of hardware, we used almost all 4.7 GB on the DVD for Gran Turismo 3.'

Only a few informations... But that's enough to understand that the developpers' ambitions, and especially concerning the online game, are not fully compatible with the PS2 capacities. That's why we are not far to think that GT 4 will probably see the light of day on the future PS3, although this hypothesis is officially demented.

oh ya the racing schem,e of GT4 is also based on racing during on day and night races..so in GT4 there will be a time slot in ther so even if u play its either night or day!!

Although the game was originally scheduled for the beginning of 2003 in Japan, SCEI has announced that it won't be available before the last months of 2003. If this release date is respected (nothing is less sure), GT 4 won't be available before January 2004 in USA and the summer of 2004 in Europe. That's quite a long time, and all of us will have to be patient.

SCEJ has also announced that the game will manage the weather and the time (which means that the races could take place during the day or the night). Moreover, two new tracks -one in China and the other in Hong-Kong- are going to appear. More details available in the sections Game Modes and Circuits.
