GT4 online: Why it will suck

I've always liked the idea of a voting system, say 4 (or 75% if less or more than 6) out of 6 people vote to kick a player out and they are thus banned from that server/user for 48 hours and are also given a sort of caution rating to show others what they are like.

How this idea.

Say and person starts dirty racing.
All 6 people vote, yes to ban him.

There, he is banned. But when the race is over a window pops up and you can set his ban length from a Public / dedicated server. Therefore, if you have a dediciated server and its always online, you can keep him banned from it. And if he does it again when he comes back. You can report his IP or something..er...that Idea sucked.
 
I don't believe your PGR2 crap. I've played online with many people such as CobraRacer, PeanutsRevenge, and others online with Live. They, others, and I don't appreciate it. The only glitch we used is the shift glitch.

GT4 online will be over riden with players who cannot drive.

But I hope PD follows like LFS's online. A bannination in the middle of the race.

You better not be counting me. I drive better than most of the kids at my school, and there aren't alot of GT players.
 
I'm not concerned about cheating very much. DNAS catches most of the device based cheating, and most of the players that would drive like assholes won't be able to keep up at all anyway, if reports about the new physics engine are true, not to mention that it wouldn't be that hard to implement a somewhat intelligent penalty system for cutting. Even so, if cheating remains rampant in spite of all this, you can just avoid playing with the general public altogether, and limit yourself to playing with groups of people that you know and trust.

What I'm more worried about is lag. At MLG events (live GT3 tournaments) we have had several finishes closer than .1 second. And in online play, 100ms is a pretty much average lag time...so what happens when a finish is closer than .1 second. Car interaction can also get goofy with lag, too...
 
the thing about online that I can't wait for in GT is the one guy that always crashes/sucks so he turns around and goes full throttle backwards around the course :lol:!

it's always funny driving toward him and going "wtf?? is he coming at me!?!?"

So why didn't they do that to Schumacher when he rammed Damon Hill off the track!? Okay so this IS game. But he still got off without a punishment.

Just some little problems in the banning mid race...
So how do you go about banning these people mid race?
Pause the game?
And what if the to be banned person, and the person directley effected (one rams the other) how can the others make a fair vote?
And what if it is a team thing (2 from each) and 2 teams gang up on the strongest team in banning their 2 drivers?
 
I don't see how we can coment on the online aspect of GT4. No one has played GT4 online, we don't know anything about GT4 Online, so therefore we can't trash it or love it. We would just be speculating.

Don't know about the US but I contacted Sony Europe about becoming a tester. Then when GT4 is up for testing you'll get it months before its released in the shops. :bowdown:

I was trying to, but you know, Micheal and Damon paid extra to have a firewall so then I couldn't banninate them.

But someone from Montona banninated Senna.
 
You guys are all missing a huge point. If the guy is cheating, he's obviously not good right? So he's gonna try to ram everyone. All you have to do is avoid him ONCE and you win. He can't catch up to you, because you're so damn fast. Then all the other people got rammed, so in essence, it's a good thing. Easy win for you, and easy loss for him. Simple as that.
 
It doesn't work that way.There are more laps in a race so more opportunities(sp?) for him to ruin it for you.One more option would be to implement a no collision mode(and i said option,like in on or off,host's choice),making everyone a ghost so no contact is possible.It takes care of rammers and makes lag irrelevant(partially).

Yeah and I have seen your ghosts bouncing off the walls (If your name is the same as your gamer tag). Its cheap and its cheating. The only good thing you ever did was the WRX run, or was that nicolas2002? Hmm.. I have only held about 5 or so outright records (many more top 10s), but at least I can say that none of them used any cheating of any sort. You on the other hand take every cheat that comes along.

I can only assume you will be doing the same in GT4.

Thats just not true. Many of the top PGR players will pass you simply by taping you into the braking area. Then you have to get yourself out of the wall and try to catch them. I think they just get so obsessed with winning that they will do what ever the game allows them to do to win.

WTF r u talking about? I drive better than McLaren F1GTR on Live. And NO i'm not the same one. So do not say I will suck at GT4 online.

You need to know some stuff more you start making assumtions. 👎

You guys are hyping up this cheating thing WAY TOO MUCH. I race online in NR2003 and I have only seen 5 cheaters in 2 years. And from what I hear its not too hard to hack the game. (nr2003)

You will probably see a cheater who hacked the game or is using gameshark once a month, and thats really too often.

Wall riders? Just go to tracks that wont give them advantage for doing so.

SSR5 is a wall riders dream, But a track like Midfield, theres no place to wall ride there! Others like Grndvalley have just a couple of places to wall ride but the odds of a good diver wall riding is really slim.

As for online time trials, I'M 100% sure PD will make them like License tests. Hit a wall too hard or get all 4 tires on grass and its over.

yes i hope they do that it will acctually be good to try and beat somones fastest lap because they wont be rediculasly fast
 
Those guys that dont' use brake when getting into the corner, they just crash right into your rear end. They just dont have skills at ALL. When I play PGR2 Live, i really hate those guys that just never use brakes and bump right into your rear or try to slap you in the straight way. This kind of 'touch' aren't acceptable.
But on the other hand, take a look on those Touring car race in Europe, they always touch each other very lightly, so you can't really said bumping each other is 'cheating or what'...the real world racing is like that as well.
Once again light touch or bumping is acceptable, but not those slap right on your side during a straight way or full throttle to your back when entering a corner!!!

Sure racing day to day just for fun you don't see them often, however if you enter anytime trials and competitions you see them everywhere. Almost every record in PGR2 is taken by a cheater and every record I know of in PRD2 is taken by a cheat.
 
As for wall-riding and ramming-into-other-cars fanboys, guess the new collision penalty will put them in history.

I'm pretty sure that collision effect will take place for touching the other cars too, so it solves lots of problems. As for ramming-in, once he will ramm, next time he'll be benned form race. You have to make your own account for online at Sony (IP and so on), so we'll allways know who is who.

No problem there at all in long terms.

lol, love it! that would be me (not the crashing etc) but id drive in the opposite direction just for the hell of it.. :p imagine doing it on that long straight at the nurburgring.. lol both cars hitting flat out! lol

My advice?
Use forums like this to find racing buddys online, talk to them and see if they like fair and honest competiton and add them to your buddy list. Find a bunch of those an you can have good clean races every race. Setup a team, put a simple website up tell people who like good clean honest racing to join. If we can have a bunch of those teams, setting up clean races will be easy.
 
This is mostly academic. The most difficult form of cheating to stop would be the electronic sort, impossibly moded cars, people using chipped PS2 etc.
Race cheating (cutting corners, blasting through the runoff, running in to the opposition) can be sorted by a combination of a good physics model (running the grass has to be slower than the track, ramming other cars can't do your time any good) and realistic 'F1 style' Drive through penalties, time added to your final lap time & possible disqualification from the race or series.
 
My faith in PD and Sony to develop a bug free, exploit free gaming experience is a lot less than my faith in the people of GTP to provide one themselves by not abusing exploits and by competing in the fair, free, honest manner I see every week in the WRS. If I step outside that zone, I should get what I expect: crap.
 
I got a simple solution for people worrying about being ramed by other players.

Since GT4 will utilize the USB Headsest for when your in a lobby waiting for a race to start, politely ask everyone to play fairly, you might be surprised when everyone agrees to do just that.

If there is still that one jacka$$ who wants to wreck everyones race, then hopefully you'll be able to track him down into another lobby and give him an earful, since you won't be able to do so while racing.
